My cousin Mary Jane Meaker wrote under the pen name of Vin Packer. She had various pen names, the most recent of which was M.E. Kerr
Why the big difference in censorship? What happened was WWII. There was an all women administration army unit in support of Eisenhower during WWII. At some point, Eisenhower was informed that there were many lesbians among the unit. He ordered the (female) commander to make a list of the soldiers with that characteristic. She said 'Yes sir, but my name will be at the top of the list.' The clerk present said, "no ma'am, I am typing the list, and my name will be at the top." Eisenhower said, "Well, never mind then."
