My daughter found 2 bullfrog tadpole and we have been raising them every since. We love watching them grow it IS very rewarding. However with your educated disclaimer of 16yrs of keeping a clean tank for a finicky eater we appreciate your advise not to keep for a lifetime. We will chalk this up to experience and education and move on with catch and release! Thank you so much for the video and guidance. It's one of the best so far.
You'll love it man! Frogs are so fun. I used to do 100% monthly changes, but with a setup like this, 50% weekly to biweekly changes should be sufficient.
Was expecting you watching his Videos, AC ;D. You two brought me into the whole nature thing again, thank you for that. Its important, especially today, that people get in touch with our mother nature again.
Watching frogs grow from tadpole is so rewarding! I know they're hardly the same but I have African dwarf frogs and they bred once. I loooooved watching those little babies swim around the top of the water among my duckweed, sprouting legs over time. 💚💚💚
He is so cute. I would love to raise one from a tadpole but I never see the giant bullfrog tadpoles anymore. They were in every shop years ago for a couple bucks. As soon as I saw you pouring the fluorite straight from the bag I was like .....no he's not... xD it's my favorite substrate. It looks so beautiful and natural underwater. But honestly I don't believe it ever becomes dust free, because whenever it rubs against itself, it just creates more clay sediment. Such a delicate, beautiful substrate that roots seem to love but not the best for sifters and destroyers :P awesome video as always!
I got an American bullfrog through working at a pet store, he came in as a new froglet in with our feeder goldfish shipment. It was super cold outside, and I didn't think he would survive being released. I have spent months setting up a tank similar to this video. (eventually I will make him a 75 gallon enclosure, he is just not very big at the moment and I can't afford the bigger setup just yet) I am finally ready with good water quality and temps, and I am super excited to put the little man (Jet) into his new home. Thanks for the amazing inspiration!
Man, you literally have the best pet channel on RUclips. So many animal keepers on here are just in it for the glory and don't really care about the animals that they keep , or ensuring that their enclosures are the best that they can be. You clearly know your stuff and are putting all of that knowledge to great use. Good job. Always a pleasure to watch your new videos because I always know that I'll learn something new!
Good video. Thanks for all your efforts. I am the type of hobbyist who will buy come aquatic creatures from my fish store for my outside tanks knowing some might not survive the winter. I have about a half dozen species of fish who do survive in my 100 gallon tank year round. I rehome creatures who I begin to worry about. 4 bullfrog tadpoles joined us this summer. Today I retrieved one from the swimming pool and moved all four to a small tank in the outside orchid room. They are still young and I think I've met immediate needs. Watching your video I realize there are decisions to be made and maybe a much bigger tank!

Great build Tanner, and loved how you were honest about keeping them as a species, not discouraging, just honest about the challenges involved (and also the rewards). Looking forward to the next video!
I love these videos. Thank you Tanner, it's great to know that there are people out there that put this much time and effort into their animals. I don't know what you do for a career but if it's not something like this, it's seriously wasted talent. Big love from the UK.
Fluorite is the WORST! Rinsing it would have only helped minimally, fyi. Lol, I rinsed mine six times and the tank I set up with it still has periodic cloudiness issues if I disturb the cap. It’s clay-based, so that sediment will settle, but it’s messy stuff. Love the plant growth though, so you can’t go wrong, but yeah, the cloudiness was not your fault!
I have this in my freshwater planted 20gal and man, every time I go to to maintenance on the plants or add/change something out the water always gets cloudy. All my root plants really seem to like it though so i guess its worth it. I also dont have a cap on part of it too which is probably contributing to the issue, but I like the natural looks that it gives.
All of your videos are so interesting and calming! I could listen to you for hours. And I love that you are honest about the upkeep, needs, and difficulties inherent in any of your pets. You are truly a spectacular builder, hobbyist, and pet parent.

Yes! Finally MJ!!! I was so looking forward to seeing his set up. First, I love the background. It really adds to the natural simulated pond look of the tank which is something that you really do well. I was wondering if pothos would do well in an aquarium or paludarium environment and this video answers that, so thank you. I'm glad the boy likes his new home. It looks amazing in the cabinet and I really appreciate your showing how you made the lid and screen. Lots of thought go into every build of yours and your videos answer all of my questions including how long do bullfrogs live. I used to keep Calfornia newts which I never see in stores now. They can live for many years. Mine lived for 8 but I knew someone who had them for 16 years.
I know right!? So glad to get him taken care of. I try my best to make the content as comment proof as possible. YEESSSS I’ve been wating for this technically a year, when you did the room tour and barely showed it I knew I needed to see it and it’s the greatest bullfrog setup I’ve seen, again AMAZING
I can't wait to see the African bullfrog setup as I own an African bullfrog. I love the setup in this video. I want to try that filteration system. Thanks for a great video.
I am new to the hobby, I kept anoles and the like when I was younger but never on a scale like this. Your videos give me so much inspiration. I plan on setting up a paludarium with my 11 year old daughter for some water skinks. We get excited every time we get a notification that you posted a new video lol.
Haha! It takes time an patience, but I know you can do the same! I've just been making these for a long time and I have an extensive background in fine arts.
Some lobelia cardinalis would be awesome in a paludarium. It can grow completely submerged and it's a very nice green color, but when it grow emersed the leaves turn purple and it blooms crimson red flowers.
I've been watching this channel for a long time now, I don't think I've ever commented though. I've just learned how commenting helps the creator, so...I just want to say thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Beautiful setup! For people who'd like something similar but a bit easier to manage (at least in terms of size) I'd suggest Leopard Frogs. You can find the tadpoles at bait shops pretty frequently. They morph large enough to eat small crickets right away, and as adults get about 3" nose to rump.
Hey Tanner :) Another gorgeous build. And thank you for the words of wisdom regarding the difficulties keeping bullfrogs and your instruction to leave the wild animals where they are. No animal should be taken from the wild into a life of captivity, unless they have physical or health issues that require constant care, most especially when captive bred examples are easily available. A quick question re the lights you use - I know you've said before they are shop lights and you pick them up in your local DIY or bargain store. For those of us not in the US, could you find something similar online and post a link for it? That way, I (and others!) would know exactly what to look for where we live. Would be much appreciated - your plants always grow so well and specialist lighting can be prohibitively expensive, especially for larger enclosures. Thanks so much, and again, big love from Scotland :)
I think there is a time and place of wild caught animals, but I'm not trying to promote that kind of behavior, especially for something like a bullfrog. When choosing lights, just look at the specs. The ones that I've been using lately are 3200 Lumen @ 5000k. They also only use 30w, but that doesn't matter. You mainly want something that's bright (I'll say 800+ Lumen) that seems to be what's worked well for me and something that's in the 5000-6500k range. I prefer 5000, but that's preference.
Touchy subject considering animals that are sold in pet stores are typically bred in deplorable conditions. My bullfrog I have because I found him on a run and he had only one good eye. I felt his chances of survival were not good. I took him home hoping to see if his eye would heal in time. Despite medication the eye didn’t change and I still have him. I don’t think it is great for people to go catch frogs and take them home but there are worse things than that that people do to wildlife (coming from a wildlife rehabilitator’s perspective). Especially if they devote any amount of time trying to properly care for them.
@@3qazlauren as I said, if an animal requires assistance to live a good life, then taking them from the wild is acceptable (for some creatures). I would never buy an animal from a pet store either - all my animals are rescues. it is possible to have animal companions and still be ethical!
I notice you don't have a drain in his tank. Good for you on keeping up with his regular maintenance. I kept turtles for many years, and would never do without one. I love watching any videos you make. They are always educational but best of all they are calming for some reason. Thank you :)

Gonna try and make a mini terrarium for first time today. Your videos are very inspiring me to do it :D
Saturday night is not complete without one of your vids. Nice one mate!
Such a relaxing channel man. Always glad to watch the progress of your hobby adventures! Keep at it man! Cheers
YEESSSS I’ve been wating for this technically a year, when you did the room tour and barely showed it I knew I needed to see it and it’s the greatest bullfrog setup I’ve seen, again AMAZING
Haha thanks! It's been a process, but I'm pretty content with how it turned out.
I can't wait to see the African bullfrog setup as I own an African bullfrog. I love the setup in this video. I want to try that filteration system. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks! I think it's going to be better than this one.
you take such good care of your animals, he's one happy frog. :> beautiful setup as always.
I caught a bullfrog today! It was so cool!
I am new to the hobby, I kept anoles and the like when I was younger but never on a scale like this. Your videos give me so much inspiration. I plan on setting up a paludarium with my 11 year old daughter for some water skinks. We get excited every time we get a notification that you posted a new video lol.
That's great! Enjoy your hobby together. It's a great bonding activity if you ask me.
I don't know what it is but that Scour Rush just gives me feelings. It's like tiny little bamboo! Almost 200k man!
Isn't it cool?! It comes in so many different sizes as well. I'll see if I can get a section of it for you.
Always great videos! I have been meaning to set up a paludarium of my own with an empty tank I have. This was exactly the inspiration I needed.
You inspire me to create my own terraruims for my leapord gecko but it doesnt turn out as cool as yours T.T amazing work as always
Haha! It takes time an patience, but I know you can do the same! I've just been making these for a long time and I have an extensive background in fine arts.
@@SerpaDesign haha thank you!
Cool, I have a leopard gecko and will watch his video to try to make one for mine!
You always have the best driftwood pieces, and plant species👏👏👍
Haha thanks man! I do what I can.
Dude you changed the mesh so the frog won’t hurt his nose now that’s a real animal lover🤘🤘
Awesome build. I raised up a couple of tadpoles and they too are do for an upgrade. Keep it up man. Your work is amazing.
Some lobelia cardinalis would be awesome in a paludarium. It can grow completely submerged and it's a very nice green color, but when it grow emersed the leaves turn purple and it blooms crimson red flowers.
Interesting. I'll look into it!
I've been watching this channel for a long time now, I don't think I've ever commented though. I've just learned how commenting helps the creator, so...I just want to say thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Thank you so much for commenting! It really does help more than most people realize.
@@SerpaDesign My pleasure. I hope you and yours are having a great New year :)
Beautiful tank set up and gorgeous Bull Frog and as usual great cinematography👌
Thanks I appreciate it! I do the best I can with what I have.
@@SerpaDesign that's the best way to make the best of thing's. Word of advice man, keep that humble mindset it'll get you far.
I agree with this as well. They are a really beautiful frog
He is one lucky bullfrog new home looks so gorgeous..time to bring home some ladies
Like I said I've keep fish for years, so water changes are no big deal. Just gotta get them done and all is well. 😁
Nice tank. I love this kind of giant frog!
Great video! I really like the placement of plants.
🙏 Thank you! I put a lot of thought in that.
LOVE MJ!!! Wishing him many, many more happy years!!! Also, new sub here, I love your well thought out designs! Bravo!!!
Love your tank!! I've been freshwater fish most of my life. And I had a salt tank and turtles. Lol. Now I have a baby bulldog in my 55-gallon. The whole house loves him. Lol. When he begs for food. Lol. Mine likes to go at my hand when I move my plants 🤣. I just love their Personality. Your right. Bullfrogs are not good pets. they need lots of care. they can bite lol.
