Explanations, clear and concise, nothing like my swing. Don’t know how I found your site I was actually deleting saved vids because they didn’t explain the cause and effect efficiently as well as you are.
Great videos as always, just went back to this one and you fixed my trail knee coming to far forward in the downswing, something I was suspecting I was doing wrong but wasn't 100% sure. Love the explanations of WHY you need to do something and the drills that follow.
That wall drill is really effective in training the muscle memory, compared to consciously trying to put the left hips back to starting position. Thanks for the tip on the follow through too!
I subscribed Jonathan. You are very, very good at both insightful explanation of golf swing theory and making your instruction accessible. Doing both takes real talent, which you have.
Like many, I experience EARLY EXTENSION, but it's not necessarily footwork or tilt. I believe I extend early because I DON'T CLEAR MY HIPS. I stop rotating my hips. From down the line, I should see more of my back pocket, but really rotate my left hip behind only after impact. I believe I can correct this by opening my left foot at setup, by squatting more on the downswing and leading with my left knee. But do you have any suggestions?
I also suggested that early extension can be caused by hand path/swing path in the downswing as a way to compensate. However, the move that you are describing sounds like it could help keep your hips back which may be a good feel to have but it is hard for me to say for sure without seeing your swing.
I just studied a video of my swing and noticed at impact how upright I appeared with a hunched over look at my shoulders. I take it this a result of early extension? I do still hit the ball fairly straight though so does the fault also decrease power? Hope this makes sense and another great video by the way.
extension is still a good thing. It is only when you do it too much or too early that it can become a problem. If you are hitting the ball well then I wouldn't worry about it.
Another great drill is to put your butt on the backside of a folding chair and literally push it further away while you swing. Actually lift the back legs off the ground while practice swinging. Thanks for the video.
Hi there , watching from the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧 just found your Chanel , really like the brief , simple to understand vids, I struggle with early extension and collapsing lead arm . Going to be trying your ideas 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️.......sub from me 👊🏻
Before even watching this video I’m practicing inside my home I notice when I take practice swings I’m not grazing the ground consistently at the bottom of my swing. Why does that happen?
I really enjoy your direct, no-nonsense approach to your instructional videos. There are no wasted words and no self aggrandizement.
Great Jonathan. The part I enjoy the most is HEAD AGAINST THE WALL DRILL
Jonathan,
Lots of good observations about cause and effect; thank you. Your point about going into extension properly was a great reminder for me.
This lesson has explained my early extension issues clearly, I will try the drills .
Thanks for the videos
wow!!!! i finally found the root cause of my balancing problem, big thanks Joanthan!!
Very good explained
Excellent Thanks Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan I'm getting back to basics.
Really helpful, thank you

Your videos are amazing!
Just what I needed😊
Great video on early extension. This is most certainly my problem & explains why I lose balance sometimes on my follow through. Well done Jon!
Perfect lesson for me today, thank you.
Great lesson. Clear, concise and informative

Excellent....👍👍👍
Jonathan , would it be ok to try and play a practice round with the trail foot back ? Or is it best just to try on the range? Thanks
if you are an early extender, then placing the trail foot behind the lead foot can help with early extension!
I am new to your videos. I am 75 and have had back surgery. Do you have any suggestions for limited motion guys?
Yeah....play chess. LOL!!
If Jonathan can not help, reply to me and I can advise. I have had back trouble for 40 years and have learnt to swing within my limitations.
you are great. where are you located. do you give in person lessons.
I am currently coaching at GOLFTEC in Singapore!
Ye another great lesson Jon. Be good to see student b4 and after correction. Covid permitting. 👍🏌️♂️
I would love to do that but my students are shy and usually dont want to be seen haha
👍
another cause of early extension is casting and hitting behind the ball too early, we rise up in order to save the shot and our hands from hurting
