Good to hear him say this. At the time it was obvious that the Nigel Benn in with Steve Collins was a much diminished fighter. Personally I don't begrudge him a last pay day. But, to be fair, I didn't pay for a ticket. On the bigger picture, very few fighters gave as much to the game, and the public, as Nigel Benn. Legend.
I read Nigel’s book and when i realised that after one of the Eubank fights he was sitting in the bath for days pissing blood cos his body had been bashed just like in a bad car accident it opened my eyes to him damaging a hard fight is to someone. Great champion and I loved watching him fight 👏
Nigel Benn is undoubtedly one of the greatest British fighters, nobody had more heart and tenacity than Nigel. He always gave his all, and it was obvious he served in the infantry in the British Army. "The role of the infantry man is close with the enemy, engage him, and kill him." That undoubtedly influenced his fighting style- he always pressed forwards and put opponents under relentless pressure. He was a real warrior and people love him for that. Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank created a golden era in British boxing, it was a zenith which hasn't been matched, let alone exceeded. The thing I admire most about Nigel is that he had the intelligence and strength of character to realise that his life was chaotic and going in the wrong direction. He fixed himself, embraced Christianity and leads a really clean life. Imagine turning up at a marriage guidance meeting and discovering that Nigel Benn would be advising you!
Nigel bought a lot of great memories, one of my favourites, Steve Collins was one tough fighter. Peter Defreitas seems a real genuine bloke, a rare quality these days

In a sport where managers don’t exactly have the best reputation what a geezer this bloke is. Straight up genuine sounding bloke. Think Nigel had a good manager in his corner there! 💪🏽👍🏽
@@danminshall1852 well it was with the scans before each fight as stated. Let’s not forget that Nigel Benn was a gladiator and one of our biggest boxing warriors. I’m pretty sure them last few fights helped him to live the lifestyle he now does. Just my opinion bud. Take it what you will. 👍🏽

Nigel Benn had to go to America win world championship away from home dugg dewit was the world champion he had to do the same for his second world title in Italy forgot his name but Benn won on a serious cut. Beat Iran Barkley he was a proper champion Eubanks won the 1s fight but Benn was robbed in second fight. Benn was a great explosive world champion.
Collins decent fighter but not in the same league as benn or Eubank. Benn was a completely shot fighter after the McClellan fight and Eubank let him off a cold knock out in round 10 I believe. The 2nd fight could have gone either way and although Collins got the verdict was never the same again. Eubank retired collins as he seem to break down in training for the calzaghe fight and Eubank stepped in at short notice and lost on points in a fight calzaghe would later say was the hardest fight in his unbeaten career. Collins fought both well after their peak.
Jeez what's a guy got to do, he beat the both of them twice each and was reigning super middleweight champion, defending it successfully 7 times. I truly think Collins was a great fighter the equal of a prime Eubank and Benn if not better, not only a very tough guy but skilful boxer too. The first Benn fight they were both in good shape and good form, it was a very tough fight. Eubank also went the full 12 rounds with him both times and couldn't win, and had 8 fights after his first with Collins. Neither Benn nor Eubank were that far past their prime. That's what I think anyway.

Im a true crime nut ha
Loved the last PC with Peter, when he talks people can just tell is 100pc TRUE n genuine, very rare in these times.
And I bet you've got more unbelievable guests to come.
Congrats mate 👏
Cheers Ian - Peter is a fantastic guest - he tells it like it is & is a really genuine bloke - know his stuff! Appreciate you watching
You need to do a book mate ! but seriously you his brother and dad were all wrong for not telling him about the bleed on the brain sounds like ypu 3 were all in it for yourselves.
In a sport where managers don’t exactly have the best reputation what a geezer this bloke is. Straight up genuine sounding bloke.
Think Nigel had a good manager in his corner there! 💪🏽👍🏽
Really? A manager that doesn't tell him he has a bleed on the brain? Can you Imagine that happening now..
@@danminshall1852 well it was with the scans before each fight as stated. Let’s not forget that Nigel Benn was a gladiator and one of our biggest boxing warriors. I’m pretty sure them last few fights helped him to live the lifestyle he now does. The manager also said that what I believe to be true that telling him could of been more dangerous as I expect he would of still fought but with more caution and could of landed him in worse trouble.
Just my opinion bud. Take it what you will. 👍🏽
I went to his last fight Benn Collins 2, I think Sky did a double header with Tyson Holyfield
Who asked??
Me too tho spent half the fight in the khazi hoofing sparkle, same with Benn/Eubank at Olympia, some chisel 'ooofed over those 2 nights 😂

Getting Ronnie Kray vibes😂😂😂😂
I have met a lorra lorra people from the Boxing World and this man is one of the very best. I put him up there with Henry Cooper, Colin Hart, Denni Mancini proper Boxing people who are in it for the love of the sport and not the pound note.

You have read something different into the situation than me.
Having watched these PD podcastes I was left with the impression that the pasion for the sport is strong but money is the thread that holds it all together

Must say I was really disappointed to hear story about the 'risk to Nigel'
I am also surprised Dixon & John did not ensure Nigel knew the score so they could make a collective decision
I love a pound note but would have pulled out the moment 'my friend' was in danger.
not telling him thank goodness it never ended up on tragedy
Sounds like a good guy!
"he went to well, but the well was dry....."😂😂😂😂 a quality command of the English language👊
Eubank came off a career great performance against Henry warton yet in his next fight he was shot against Collins 👍😁
