Steve Albini on Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic

  • In Utero, recorded by Steve Albini, is Nirvana's third & final studio record. Nirvana specifically chose Steve Albini as the producer they wanted to work with for In Utero, despite their record label's objections. This set the ground work for what would end up becoming a strenuous situation for Nirvana & in particular for Steve Albini. Despite this, Steve Albini managed to record what many consider to be Nirvana's greatest work. Nirvana's lineup during In Utero was Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic & Dave Grohl. In this video, Steve Albini discusses his experience with Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic. This is my second interview with Steve Albini, my first interview with him was for my documentary 'Rock is Dead?'

      Yeah, bc Bonham wouldn't play what Kurt told him to play, Dave wanted on the other hand and Crist, Chad didnt also, thats why got kicked, Jason went out bc same reason.... Nirvana wouldn't sound as it sound if they all participate with they own individual creative approach and certainly wouldn't be so famous and good. Just imagine that Cantrell told everyone in band what to play and sing, or Staley....They would sound much different, better or worst dont know, luckily Kurt new it would sound awesome so he searched ppl who would play his music, theres few who were so unique in rock music, very few....Ppl who say hes overrated are blind or deaf and dont understand music on higher level, music school or academy cant teach you that, those feeling you have or you dont have

  • @nicholasbailey2469
    @nicholasbailey2469 3 года назад +2

    Krist’s bass parts take it further than the left hand on the piano, and an integral part to what made their material move. I’d suggest he actually does contribute to the harmonic qualities. Lithium for example, has the great bass counter-melody (E Eb Vs E G#) section. Dumb rocks the signature Krist line, walking passing tones to connect the chord structure. Lounge Act... phenomenal movement off the bat. Heart Shaped Box, Krist serves the song, enhancing dynamically with a staccato heartbeat-like stab on sections within the verse. Albini doesn’t quite give Krist the recognition he deserves here. Yes, he holds the song down... but to suggest that Kurt held all the harmonic qualities isn’t quite accurate. Keep the interviews coming!
