    So, what's the 10 signs of high functioning neurotypicality? Can they survive?

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  Год назад +2

      Some common characteristics of high-functioning neurotypicality may include:
      1. Strong social skills and the ability to understand social cues.
      2. Good communication skills, including both verbal and nonverbal communication.
      3. A capacity for empathy and the ability to recognize and respond to others' emotions.
      4. Flexibility in thinking and problem-solving.
      5. A strong sense of organization and attention to detail.
      6. Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
      7. A high level of intelligence and cognitive ability.
      8. The ability to focus on tasks for extended periods of time.
      9. Good memory and the ability to recall information quickly.
      10. An overall ability to adapt to different situations and environments.
      As for whether high-functioning neurotypicals can survive, the answer is yes. Individuals with high-functioning neurotypicality are able to navigate the world and interact with others successfully. However, it's important to remember that everyone faces challenges and struggles, regardless of their neurotype. The goal should be to create a society that is accepting and accommodating to all individuals, regardless of their neurodivergence or neurotype.

    I do not believe I have autism but I feel as if there may be something going on with me and I am especially paying more attention to it now and I am wondering if you have any idea on if it could be a potential disorder or just my personality. Here are some things that I feel occur with me that makes me stand out from others:
    -I cringe terribly when certain unclean things touches me (shower floor when barefoot, shower curtain, pavement when feet are wet, washing dishes without gloves)
    -At times, without much reason I become distant from my friends for a short amount of time, and sometimes in the middle of conversation I would suddenly get annoyed with the presence and voices of the people around me
    -I absolutely hate confrontation about many things
    - I have noticed I have a stronger attention to detail compared to the people around me
    -Small things that seem insignificant for others really mean a lot to me, things that seem abnormal (sympathy for intimate objects, disregarding of something given to me even if it is a piece of paper)
    -Always feeling as if I have never been truly understood by others/as if I am always the odd one out from others
    -Frequent isolation
    -Becomes frustrated when someone is not educated on things I find to be simplistic/things I am passionate about
    -Usually very timid, but once I lose my temper (very rarely) I tend to be destructive even though I usually prefer to talk things out
    -Have a hard time accepting intimate touch from others
    -Mind is always racing with drifting thoughts
    Sorry for the long comment, love the video!

    Please, can anyone share how to deal with high functional autistic people?
    My father and one of my colleagues are high functional autistic people, conversation with both of them always ends with headache from their constant repetitive stories. Many times after I tell them that they already told the story, they would just continue talking in my direction as if I do not exist, and usually with draining emotional focus on the story, or they become insulted after being cut in the middle of monologues

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. Interacting with individuals who are high-functioning autistic can sometimes present unique challenges, especially when it comes to repetitive stories and communication styles. Here are a few strategies that might help:
      Set Clear Boundaries: Gently but firmly let them know when you need a break or if the conversation is becoming overwhelming. It can be helpful to establish cues or signals that you both understand.
      Use Active Listening Techniques: Show that you're engaged by acknowledging what they've said, even if you’ve heard it before. This can help validate their experience and might reduce the need for repetition.
      Redirect the Conversation: Politely steer the conversation towards new topics or ask questions that could lead to a different direction. This can help balance the dialogue.
      Practice Empathy: Remember that repetition might be a way for them to process information or express their interests. Understanding this can help in managing your own responses.
      Seek Support: If the situation becomes particularly challenging, consider seeking advice from a professional or support group that specializes in autism. They might offer additional strategies tailored to your specific situation.
      I hope these suggestions are helpful. Everyone’s experience is different, and finding what works best for your unique situation might take some time.
      Best,

      Walking on the outer sides of the feet, known as supination, can definitely cause shoes to wear out quickly on the outer soles. It might be helpful for your husband to get a gait analysis or consult with a podiatrist. There are also specialized shoes and insoles designed to provide better support and reduce wear.

I had great difficulty learning to talk: About nine years of speech therapy was very useful. Most autistic people have extremely uneven skills. Very accurate information, but unsure why you are using a label which is no longer used. Having said that Asperger's is still being used even though it left the DSM in 2013. I find it quite confusing as a recently diagnosed neurodivergent woman. Why is out of date terminology still being used?

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  Год назад +3

      There are a few reasons why the term "Asperger's" is still used even though it is no longer an official diagnosis. First, it is still a useful way to describe a certain set of symptoms and behaviors. Second, many people with Asperger's are not comfortable with the new diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, and still identify themselves as Aspies. Finally, there is a lot of existing literature and support materials that use the term Asperger's, so it is still in common usage.

      It's important to remember that only a qualified healthcare professional can diagnose autism. While it's possible for non-professionals to have opinions, it's always best to seek out a professional evaluation if you're concerned about your own or someone else's symptoms. If you don't have any of the symptoms associated with autism, it's unlikely that you have the disorder, regardless of what others may say.

    These examples are so vague they can damn near include anyone. For instance: "Limited social circle." Tf does that mean? Is 3 friends enough? Too many? What if they moved? What if the other kids in class are weird or mean? Like, where's both the nuance and the hard line?
    In short, this is why so many struggle to get the dx they need: be more clear in how you define the words you use

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  Год назад

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You've raised an important point about the need for clarity when discussing autism traits. You're absolutely right that terms like "limited social circle" can be quite ambiguous. Autism is a spectrum, and it's important to recognize that each individual's experience is unique.
      When we mention a "limited social circle" in the context of autism, we're referring to situations where someone consistently has difficulty forming and maintaining social relationships beyond what might be considered typical developmental stages. However, you've rightfully pointed out that there's a lot of nuance here, and it's essential to consider factors such as personal preferences, circumstances, and individual differences.
      Autism diagnosis can indeed be challenging because of these variations, and it's crucial for professionals to take a comprehensive and individualized approach. More specific and detailed assessments are often required to determine whether someone meets the criteria for an autism diagnosis.
      Your feedback underscores the importance of clear and precise communication in the field of autism, both in research and in clinical practice. It's essential to provide clarity while recognizing that autism is a diverse and multifaceted condition. Thank you for sharing your insights, as they contribute to a more nuanced and informed discussion of autism.

    Does the physical symptoms mean pain

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  Год назад

      The physical symptoms of autism do not necessarily mean pain. Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction. While some individuals with autism may experience physical symptoms that can be distressing or uncomfortable, it does not automatically imply pain for everyone with autism.
      Physical symptoms in autism can vary widely from person to person and may include difficulties with coordination, repetitive movements, sensory sensitivities, and gastrointestinal issues, among others. These symptoms can have different impacts on individuals, and some may find certain sensory experiences uncomfortable or overwhelming. However, it's crucial to remember that not all physical symptoms experienced by people with autism are painful.
      It's essential to approach each individual with autism as a unique person with their own experiences and sensitivities. Some individuals may have difficulty communicating their discomfort or may express it differently from what is typically expected. Understanding and empathy are crucial when supporting individuals with autism to ensure their needs are met appropriately. If you're concerned about someone with autism experiencing pain or discomfort, it's best to consult with healthcare professionals or specialists who can provide personalized insights and support.

    • @TheDisordersCare
      @TheDisordersCare  Год назад +3

      There has been much debate in recent years about whether the terms "high functioning" and "low functioning" are outdated. Some people argue that these terms are no longer useful because they are too simplistic and don't take into account the complexity of individual differences. Others argue that these terms are still useful because they provide a way to categorize people with different levels of functioning.
      The reality is that there is no easy answer to this question. It is likely that both sides have some valid points. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide whether or not they believe these terms are useful.
