I mentioned this to matt, but the idea of holding down a button to engage the pedal isn't very useful in a live setting. I don't have much time when spontaneously switching patches to hold my button. You can scroll through all the presets, but they are all engaged if you're doing that. I'd love to be able to scroll through and engage with a single tap, so one could put their strymon pedals out of reach on a big board, and not have to worry about stepping far to engage them.
That does surprise me. After seeing the presets that Strymon showcased prior to its release, i thought that they were a lot more useable than the Space. Although the Space does sound a lot more natural, slightly earthier sounds on some settings.
The Big Sky just seems pretty vanilla, is all. There are a few things it does that are interesting... but there's nothing that far out there, sonically speaking. Things like Mangledverb and Blackhole are just on a different level than anything the Big Sky offers. With the Space though, I got to a point where I could hear the digital conversion happening almost all the time... so that's why I say the Strymon sounds better. And, generally speaking, I dig the clean, studio-quality sound integration that Strymon gear has.
People should know that disaster area has no phone support at all. You have to communicate through email, so if you don’t have a day or two to wait for a return email you might be SOL. Kind of sucks for me as I have a new pedal of theirs and I’m hesitating programming it for fear I might screw something up and not be able to call someone. Thanks disaster area.
Hi. I just got a DMC4 gen2 to use with my Mobius and Timeline. I have loaded the Trinity fw and just skip the C mode. The only problem I see so far is that in looper mode, the looper execution is not immediate when compared to looping using the timeline controls directly. For example, on the timeline i can record and play without a gap in the loop. with the DMC4, I just can't get rid of a tiny gap when the loop cycles. Have you seen this kind of behavior on your DMC experiences? Any tip?
I just ordered a used DMC-4 Gen 2, and obviously, it's not supported any more. I found the manual and firmware updater, but can't find the .hex firmware file anywhere online. I'll be controlling a Line 6 M5 with it. Will I even need the firmware file? I'm confused if I'll need a specific firmware for use with the M5.
Hey man what type of MIDI cable are you using for the DMC 4? I see that it has 8 pins. But the timeline has 5 pins. And where'd you get your right angle midi cable?
Yes can you tell me which firmware you are using? I uploaded the trinity firmware for my gen 2 Dmc4 and I do not have the option to select b5 for big sky. Only the option to turn T on and off and I'm not wanting to bank all at once. Just the ability to control my timeline and big sky separately. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I believe that this was the original firmware Matt developed for the 2nd Gen DMC-4. I believe that what you want is the "DMC Gen2 Firmware" for the DMC-3XL and DMC-4, not the trinity version. It's near the top of the Files page on the DA site and is called "DMC_3XLD v1.07". Failing that, you might just email Matt directly.
Hi! Can I use this pedal (DMC-4 GEN2) to simultaneously change patches in Mobius, TimeLine and BigSky? I basically want to change the patch up or down simultaneously for all of my Strymon pedals. Also can the expression pedal control simultaneously all those pedals through midi? For example if I want to control the mix of TimeLine and BigSky I can set the patches to accept expression and set the Mobius to not accept expression.
Thanks for the demo Crash. Merry Christmas buddy!
You too! [And no problem.]
Would love a video on how to wire this thing up from start to finish. That's where I get lost!

How are you finding the BigSky as opposed to the Space?? Is it a keeper?
The BigSky sounds and works better as far [as MIDI is concerned].... but thus far, it isn't nearly as inspiring as the Space.

Can I set what does the buttons do in dmc 4 gen2 via mac/windows?
Is there a way to factory reset it? I bought a used one, tia!

How i can connect DMC-4 Gen2 MIDI Controller 8 pin to 5 pin strymon bigsky and timline? thanks))
Disaster Area has Best-Tronics cables on their site. I've got one and it works great. (You'll need 2 to connect all 3 pedals.)

This is a Best-Tronics MIDI cable... available direct or from Disaster Area.
Everything is 5-pin MIDI.
I have this pedal. How can you recall a certain preset you have created.?

Yes to both.
crxshdxmmy Thanks! This is exactly what I've been looking for - a small footprint midi controller.
The DMC-4 is awesome. I'm back to using a DMC-2 because I don't need all the extra stuff, but either way - these compact controllers are AWESOME.
you can control two pedals with this correct?
you got rid of a lot of your pedals?!
Not at all. Tweaked the setup a bit for this video, but there there were a half dozen or so sitting just off camera.
