This is my first attempt at making a video and editing it. We have a customer that does not like holes in the roof's of their vehicles.. They opted for this BulletProofDiesel third light antenna mount bulletproofdie... I attempt to show the installation and give my thoughts on the product.
If these type of install videos are something that people want to see I will up my game and do my videos more like Steven Lavimoniere does.. / stevenlavimoniere using a better camera on a tripod. I do not unfortunately (like Steven does) for the animal lovers plan on taking my dog with me and filming him.. ;)
We are not being endorsed by Bulletproof Diesel for this video. They were simply chosen because they had a product we figured would survive the wet elements we deal with in the Pacific Northwest. We paid for this mount.
I speak of the system losses in this video and plan on elaborating on that subject in the future and the reasons that the big radio manufacturers really don't want you understanding why loss is a bad thing for your pocket book.

It's probably DXE 58A/U, but I appreciate you pointing out the coax used. I am looking for a 900mhz application also, that's pretty lossy stuff at that frequency range. LMR240uf would have been half the loss.

Could you have replaced the coaxial with lmr400?

I just put one of these on my ‘24 Maverick. Expensive but a great way to install an antenna.

Yeah.. I would have also if I would have had the time and an antenna with me to test.. These antennas are being used for receive only and at 900mhz the mount itself was easily big enough to be a proper ground plane for that. But something lowband or highband VHF would have been nice to test. If I ever get to do another I will try and remember to do so.

How did you run the cable?

If I remember correctly there is a rubber grommet between that cavity and the rest of the roof that I ran both coax through. It looks like that part got cut out of the final video here for whatever reason. I do remember it was kinda a pain. Ive probably drilled in the neighborhood of 10k holes in vehicle roofs in my career and this was indeed one of the more difficult runs. If I had it to do again I would just pop a 3/4" hole with a drill between the two making sure not to hit anything behind it and plug it with a rubber antenna hole plug and run the cables through that.

@@chrispalmer7387not to be a Dick but that would’ve been much more helpful to know than anything else in this video.
