Loved, loved, loved your Tiny Dome/Home. I wonder if you can be okay in hot climates, like the South, & the Caribbean? Do you all have bug problems at all. I'm wondering, cause I love the Domes more than a super uncomfortable Tiny Home that's 3 inches wider than our bodies & a foot longer, ja, ja. 😅💔🥴 This is awesome & doable for me! Let me know! Please!!!
A fan must be installed in the dome. It flows heat upwards in the summer and downwards in the winter by changing the direction of rotation. Inquire about it.
Only half way through the video, but had to pause to say WOW! This is amazing! So, happy for you guys. I've paused at the "comfort zone half circle". I love your view! You've made such a lovely home! :) Update... just saw the bath house. What an amazing place to relax in the tub letting all your stresses melt away.
What a beautiful home you have created!! Wow!! It is so artistic ~ being filled with nature is beyond wonderful!! Enjoy every moment of every day, and thank you for sharing! Sending light, love, peace, joy and abundance always. I love you.
I had a friend in Michigan that lived in a dome through the winter - she said her and her young daughter stayed warm - no problem and the folks in cabins around them came over to warm up. She said the domes were good because they circulated the heat well. I'm guessing hers was much smaller scale. Great adventure - your set up good there.
Thanks for sharing 😊 I wonder if their dome had insulation or solid walls. Good news is that Evan & Sam just installed Pacific Domes’ insulation kit so they should be much better off this winter!
Smaller or just better insulated. This Couple opted out of the insulation materials... I would like to know how much you saved on the insulation. I like this Dome very much! 💓🥰💞
Lovely place! I especially love the bath house vibe and the outdoor shower. Really takes me back! Would suggest that you could have more of that tranquil feel in the dome by building 2 or 3 folding screens to temporarily block the least restful views such as closet space and unfinished projects. Fold them out of the way when you crave the full visual space. Best of luck in your ongoing adventures.
Great video. The owners made it special. They talked about real issues, financing, noise (I would have never thought of that), heating, the openness, and just plain trials of a dome home. I loved how they over came some of the issues. A Bath house!! I love that idea, that is just plain awesome. An outhouse... maybe not so special. Has anyone considered an adjoining dome for bathroom/bathhouse? I like how things were done and how you presented your home. Thank you for sharing.
Love your beautiful home ! I really appreciated your video !!! You took your time and made me feel the Love you put into your peaceful home ❤ congratulations!!!!
Very nicely done ! Beautiful . Have you thought of getting a winterized insulated cover to go over the existing one ? It would cut down on heating the dome in the winter and even make the normal cover under it last longer since it would not be exposed to the harsh winter sun and cold temps.
Wow!! I love this dome house!👍💕 The awesome views, the sunlight! It was very well thought out. It's really efficient how they have everything in its place, and so organized! The bath house is spectacular--love the color and the greenery! Well done! Best wishes!😊👍👌
Hi Evan hi Sam greetings from Western Australia...love your dome home especially the bath house. I would worry about snakes when going to the loo, even just going to the loo (toilet) at night or in pouring rain must be the pits..maybe you could clear back a little more of the undergrowth? Not sure about all of that loose packed straw under your home...?? fire risk, it can also self combust. Can you get house insurance for a dome home.. if so hope you have your investment covered - personal choice of course and not my business but its always a shame when you hear of people losing their homes then finding out they arent insured....seems like a waste to me, afterall everything you posses is in that structure. Those hand rails outside are super beautiful...what a gift!! All the best for the future in your new home, enjoy your life...get out there and explore... thanks to Alexis and Christian for bring us your story.
To circulate the heat from the fire you need to hang a reversible ceiling from the top of the dome. When running backwards in winter it pulls up the cool air & the warm air naturally circulates.
This home and layout is perfect for someone with ADHD, as everything is in view. My only issue is security. I'd love to have a more firm, secure version using wooden triangles fitted together.
This will be our first winter with the bathhouse. It’s such a small space that when you run a bath it gets quite warm. For a shower though in the cold months we may run a small heater or install a small diesel heater for less electricity use if needed.
How did you get your bldg permit? I'm next county over and all they will do is permit a "smiling yurt". I'm desperate for ideas. How much did your platform cost in '21? How do you manage grey water?
This is a lovely home. The roll-up window is also very charming. Have you considered adding a screen to your window? Just in case all that wildlife finds its way into your dome?
We’ve thought about it but haven’t gotten a screen yet. So far we’ve had the goats jump in, a few humming birds, and lots of bees haha. And occasionally a chicken!
In the countryside outside of Cusco we had no screens and like you, Hummers came to visit! I also had two cats that climbed the 10 ft compound walls and adopted me. But no chickens or goats so you are doing better than I did! I want a dome home just like yours. With the composting toilet and luxurious soaking tub with Nature view! Enjoy your warmer winter this year!♥️♥️Aloha and Mahalo
To hide the clothes on the rail hook up some form of curtain either voile or other light weight material. That is what I did when all I had for a wardrobe. Also add rugs. I in front and then sides of bed will help in winter by acting as a little bit of insulation. Other than that, you have an amazing home
What a gorgeous space. I have always thought that domes were exquisite, but have never stayed or been in one. This was a wonderful sneak peek at life in a dome. I love that they are living and learning and making adjustments to create their perfect space. I have so many questions…. I wondered about insulation in cold weather…they’re working on it. I wonder about durability - how does the dome hold up over time with weather or sun damage? How often would the cover need to be replaced? Is the window screened or completely open when they roll up the side of the dome? How do they handle middle of the night potty visits? Is there a way to cover the windows? This is such a cool space and I’d love to explore more. Thank you for inviting us in! 🎉🥰
Truly lovely! If you ever get a chance to rent a dome, do it; they have a soothing yet uplifting feeling. ✨ They just put in the insulation kit from Pacific Domes (where they got the kit from) so that’ll make a huge difference. I imagine like yurts that this structure could hold up well for over 20 years before need some repairs, but good questions. Sam & Evan might pop over to answer 😊
We recently installed our insulation and it’s already making a huge difference, the dome shell has a 15-20 year lifespan of taken care of correctly, and has an amazing strength for wind and snow load.
Happy to hear it! For a dome like theirs, areas with unrestricted land is best or those that don’t limit how long you can “camp” on your land. Also recreational lots could work. Pacific Domes shares a great guide on this topic (that’s who Sam & Evan went with): pacificdomes.com/guide-to-permitting-your-dome-home/#:~:text=The%20short%20answer%20is%20yes,standards%20and%20local%20building%20codes
If you wash it yearly and don’t have anything tear it, the canvas has a 15-20 year lifespan and the windows have a 10 year. They all unzip or pop out though so they can be replaced.
HERES A QUESTION, IS THERE A WAY TO CONNECT ANOTHER SMALLER DOME TO YOUR EXISTING DOME TO CREATE A SEPERATE BEDROOM AND BATHROOM SPACE. JUST WONDERING. OTHERWISE, IS REALLY COOL.
They definitely experienced both and failed fine but was a tough winter without insulation installed. Fortunately they just got Pacific Domes installation kit to prepare for this winter!
It’s rated for 10ft of snow and can handle 110 mph winds. Rated by engineers. We struggled this last winter with no insulation but we fixed that so we are ready!
What is the security level in a dome or yurt? I’m thinking of adopting a tiny home life, and the dome version is attractive because of the soaring space and the room. But with fabric walls, what’s to prevent someone from breaking in with a knife or other simple tool? My life will always include time spent away traveling. Also, I live alone and have no plans to ever change that. What is your security wisdom?
That is one downside to dome living. Unless it’s a wooden or fiberglass structure dome, the security level is low. We luckily live on property shared with other people so it’s never really left vulnerable. If you like the high ceilings maybe an A-Frame cabin would be a good option to think about.
Heating these is more than a challenge, and in the PNW, you'd have to be a pretty hardy human to get through a winter, waking up to outdoor temps (indoors)! Summers would be awesome... but winters??? Not for this Canuck!🥶
This past winter was rough for sure! We have since upgraded our heating system and insulated the floors and walls. It’s still challenging but I’ve always lived in old houses, so cold winters are familiar. Haha
Not sure if it's this channel or another. Bur I saw a tiny home in which the home was inside a biodome. This is basically the dome being the home. Very different.
The biodome concept is rad, and yeah that was on a different channel. 😊 In a dome home, you really get to enjoy the full uplifting & soothing nature of the organic shape. Also the creative challenges around round layouts!
