I met Mr. Langella one day on the street in NYC and he was incredibly gracious. It was literally the only time in my life when I acted a 'fan' to anyone ( we see lots of people in NY it's not a big deal). But I confessed to him I had seen him on Broadway in pretty much everything he had done and that if I saw he was going to be in it, I was going. He's an American treasure.

Yes, I was totally in love with him in Dracula and went to see him in the Broadway version 5 times. I was all of 16. I did get his autograph once and never forgot it. It was a wonderful play, mostly because it was all done very 'tongue-in-cheek,' as they say; for laughs. I never thought that translated well in the movie version. It was his charisma that made that version of Dracula so appealing.

Langella is very intelligent about how he approaches his characters (his "guys") and how he works with costars and directors and the kinds of parts he chooses, including the ones he initially believes he's not right for. I heartily recommend his 2012 memoir DROPPED NAMES in which he profiles the actors, actresses, directors, writers, politicians, and other notables he's met over his career. His profiles of George C. Scott, Raul Julia, Ida Lupino, Jo Van Fleet, and Alan Bates are especially poignant and rewarding.

Skeletor is one of the best villain performances ever. And he basically did this under their crazy filming conditions

Well Frank, I came to you late in your career but I was instantly taken aback by your performances. Now that I know more about you I’m going to find your earlier stuff. I think you’re fantastic my man in everything I’ve ever seen you do.

I've read his autobiography "Dropping Names" twice. It is humorous and revealing. He is a brilliant story teller. A must read.

What a brilliant character actor. He had the matinee looks but you could see he was meant for character roles. Scared the crap out of me as a small kid as Dracula because he was so softly spoken. It was compelling watching him play Nixon with an actor's honesty to finding's a character's truth. I was especially taken with Gabriel in The Americans. He has such presence on screen in all his roles. It's wonderful to hear him talk through his most memorable roles. I dearly would love to see him in even more meatier roles as the sun sets on his great career.

I'm here for the Skeletor talk 😁
Great actor. Also insanely attractive guy in his prime too (still is in his senior years, let's face it). You can see why the ladies went wild for him in the 70s!

It's wonderful to hear actors talk about periods when their careers stand still, I think we tend to think that having a hit movie makes you successful and then that's it. Frank is a sublime actor, very believable. I first saw him in Cutthroat Island as a kid in the mid 90's.

What a wonderful talk! I had not realized how many fascinating roles he had. I DO remember going to see Masters of The Universe and realizing part was through that Langella was far and away the best thing in it. I remember there being one scene, which I do not even recall, when I said “oh my god, he is doing an amazing job here !” I realized that even it terrible movies, there can be people doing everything they can with a character. There are also now a couple more movies I need to watch or rewatch.

I first saw Frank in The Twelve Chairs back in the 70's and then of course in Dracula in1979. He's always been a favorite of mine. He seems like the consummate professional and a genuinely nice man. I hope he continues to have opportunities come his way.
