Thank you so much for your comments. Why don’t you set up a crafternoon tea, just get a few of your friends together, make a lovely tea, each person can bring something. All bring your crafts & just craft together x
You just reminded me... we can do this for Christmas stamped candles ... you do the same thing, just stamp on tissue paper with your favorite SU stamp. Also, you can use Dollar tree candles that have the light in them. They are wax covered, but you have to be very careful to not over heat. Thank you for sharing.. this is easy, not too expensive and nice little stocking stuffers.
Bobbi Olmstead . Thanks Bobbi. Yes I just commented on Antonio’s comment saying the exact same thing. I’ve been doing these for years & normally just Stamp & colour on tissue too xx
I have never tried a hair dryer. The heat tool melts the wax of the candle very quickly & keeps it pitting or melting into holes. I think a hairdryer may not be hot enough or give an even melt. Worth a try though. I would use a cheap candle that you don’t mind wasting x
@@kirstierhodes2058 possibly, whatever you use has to be very thin otherwise as the candle burns it doesn't burn the paper. Purely decorative wouldn't matter & for safety obviously candles should never be left unattended while burning. Thank you for your comments 😊 truly appreciated
Oh Jane, I adore this idea. I am wondering if greaseproof paper is the same as what we call parchment paper here in the U.S., I don't think I've ever seen anything labeled greaseproof. Your little bird images are stunning and I think I'm going to make some of these for Christmas gifts for the girls in my husbands office. Thank you so much for once again inspiring me to create outside of my normal box. Have a lovely day.
Yes I believe parchment is the same, try doing a small candle to get the hang of it first, as need paper tight & not let heat gun rest on one spot for too long or can melt unevenly. Make great presents x
Jane, what a great idea! That is lovely. I use napkins a lot as backgrounds on cards, not this technique but just gluing it on. Thanks for another lovely idea. Betty in Texas
I love this video. You made the steps so much easier and clearer than other videos I've seen. A couple questions for you- I love the look of white and cream colored candles, however some napkins have a darker background that will be used on candles. What do you suggest for choosing a candle color for darker backgrounds? Do they work just as well on the white candles? Also, were you using paraffin wax candles? Does this work just as well on soy candles?
Thank you for your comments. I always use white or cream even with dark napkins as when melt the candle the napkin gets covered with a thin layer so the clearer the better. Can use soy or paraffin or bees wax as long as melt evenly so don't get holes. I use IKEA candles as cheap but good quality. Hope that helps x
Thank you for your response. I'm having one more issue in hoping you can help me with. I've tried two different heat guns but they both melt the candles too quickly. What wattage and temp do you have on your heat gun. 395*F seems to be too hot no matter how I hold the heat gun. You are a pro! Thank you!
I get my napkins from the local garden centre, just have a look out or online, so many shops sell napkins, just pick up packs of your favourites to use for personal use x
I love doing these Jane, but why are my candles going bobbly once heated? Should they be completely smooth once the image is added? Love all your tutorials - Top Fan! 😊
Couple of ideas. Make sure the paper is pulled tightly across the candle before heating & heat minimally. As soon as you see the wax starting to melt through tight paper move on. Hope that helps x. Thank you my top fan 😘
@clairecolchester7345 stampin up heat gun was on second setting which is hot. A lot of heat guns only have one setting which is hot so should work with most heat guns
AntonioMakes . Thanks Antonio. Yes great for Christmas table. Also if you use tissue paper instead of napkin you can stamp on the tissue or write & then use whatever stamps, sentiments you want. Have made wedding, birthday, anniversary & christening all personalised with recipients name, date etc. X
I think you have to be a little cautious if burning & not leave unattended, depending on quality of the candle will depend on burning. I have never had a problem although most I keep as decorations & havnt burned x
Linda Avinou . It will work on any solid candle, perfumed or not. Be careful if the candle is colour coated with a different colour core as the outer surface of the candle melts with this technique so the coloured coating will melt exposing different coloured core. X
I’m not sure as have never seen or used wax paper. Parchment paper or grease proof paper is what I use. You can always try wax paper on a small candle to see. What you want to achieve is a tight seal which will give a smooth finish after you have removed paper. Good luck x
Unfortunately you do need a heat tool to melt the wax evenly. I haven’t tried using anything else, so cannot really suggest anything else. Heat tools are relatively inexpensive & you can use them for lots of other crafting techniques. Thank you so much for your comment x
Thank you so much. You can buy napkins from most supermarkets, garden centres etc, & even online. This was a napkin at a friends afternoon tea, which I didn’t use & saved. X
Oh dear, did you use a heat tool? Greaseproof paper held tightly round the candle & image on paper napkin pulled apart so only one thin layer? If you follow the video precisely it does work, so do have another go as it is a lovely result 😊 x
If you are not going to use the mug or glass & have them purely as decoration then probably yes, but I wouldn't. I have a video for stamping on mugs or glasses & baking in oven to seal jyst look back though my older RUclips videos x
The melting wax of the candle does the trick, so It won't work on anything that does not have wax in it. For glass I would look into etching, engraving pen and glass painting. For would you could also look into engraving pens and wood burning.
I made these for myself several years ago now & the napkin was given to me by a friend who was serving us afternoon tea using these napkins & I asked to keep one. I am aware of the angel policy on many napkin designs (including Wrendale) but you can buy many non policy napkins to use. Please dont burn these candles they are so dangerous. I done a sample of one to see on my sink with water near by .every candle burns different the out come is not good.
Sorry you didn’t find this safe. If you make sure you only have one layer of napkin or tissue paper, which is very light you should have an issue in burning the candle. With all candles or naked flames they should never be left unattended. I have been burning mine for years with no problems x

Hi Jane, thank you for this tutorial. I did one many years ago and it seamed to take ages to heat up. Will try this today thank you xxx

Hello Jane thanks for the video and other ideas. My question is does this work with rice paper?
I would doubt it, unless it was very thin. Tissue paper is very thin so melts into the candle & becomes invisible apart from the coloured image x
Jane, that's adorable!! Is parchment paper, used in baking, the same as "grease- proof" paper; or perhaps it's "waxed paper" here in the US?

Do not burn these candles I do alot of arts and crafts I made one to see what it would do the paper set fire .these are so dangerous.
