- Mila Kunis tells Peter Travers about working opposite Natalie Portman, for her part in 'Black Swan', and what it was like growing up in communist Ukraine, then coming to America.
I have to say as brilliant as Natalie Portman was in her role, Mila held her own and pulled out a great supporting performance. Congrats on what will be her first Oscar nomination for best supporting actress come January 25, 2011.
when she started talking about her upbringing i wanted to cry. so many people dont realise how hard she's worked and how much she's been through to get where she is today, with award nominations and such. she is beautiful and she deserves every ounce of success she receives.
I love her, but when I hear her in interviews, all I can think of is "Shut up Meg!" That voice is so iconic, I can't help it.
Or maybe even "DAMN, JACKIE!!!" #LOL
I love how she brings up her upbringing. My family also comes from communistic USSR Soviet Union Armenia at the time no money was allowed to be brought to America. So we literally came here without a single word of english no money in our pockets worked our way up parents worked a bunch of menial minimum wage jobs. I feel her
She's so genuine! Love her!
she is very clever
This is probably the most interesting interview I have ever watched. You really get to know Mila.
she has a lot of intellect and she presents it with so much charm wow
i love her laugh
Mila Kunis did her part very well- down to being believable from San Francisco.
She looked so much more like a ballet dancer in movie- not so much in real life.
it amazes me how the film achieves this. it's the incredible challenge of acting- that transforms actors.
I love Mila, she's someone even the girls will instantly fall in love with, and of course be jealous of
Mila and Natalie are both beautiful and great actors. I love them in this movie.
Peter Travers always gives Mila great critics. He's the one who called her ''illegaly adorable''. I wonder if he was thrilled to interview her.
Congradulations for mila and natalie for both getting golden globe nominations I don't care if they win or lose I just care that there performances are getting reconized in this film they were amazing
I feel like I'm the only girl watching this.
nope
love her voice
I was thinking I can’t be the only one who loves it.
One if the things that causes racism is parents not telling their children that other people exist. When I was a little girl, my grandmother told me about all different kinds of people.
how insightful, when she said she realized she was poor the moment she moved to america.
One of my favourite actresses of all time, I adore strong independent down to earth gorgeous women ;) she's so inspirational and intellectual ;)
Intellectual? Really?
my god shes a babe
No god but Allah
Islam way for peace and real monotheism
Search about the truth with honest heart
Mila Kunis is just Gorgeous i think its awesome that she has the same roots as myself from Ukraine, She is an amazing actress who seems like a very down to earth person. You go Mila Kunis strut your stuff
how come actress are always beautiful whether they
are slim or little over weight??
I look unattractive when I put on weight.... but actress are always still pretty with big arms..
This interviewer is terrible hahah Mia was sweet thought
I dont remember seeing my first colored person but my WHOLE family has people that look black, white, asian and indigenous. :)
I like her a lot but it was weird to me when they went for dinner and drinks in the movie, she acted a lot like a mini Angelina Jolie. It was sort of a turn off, but the rest of the movie I liked her pretty well.
we have an actress here in Armenia, she looks like Mila or Mila looks like her i don't know..you can search Ani Eranyan on google and you will see ))
poor man's Mila Kunis
Why do people write she's from Russia? She's from UKRAINE! Doesn't she say it twice in this interview? You could say she from former Soviet Republic of Ukraine or from Soviet Union but it is incorrect to say she's from Russia. Russia is not the only heir apparent of everything Soviet
Come on now. Sarah Lane, with the American Ballet Theatre, did that dancing in Black Swan. Through a special process called "face enhancement" Natalie Portman's face is superimposed over Sarah Lane's. Lane is doing the dancing. Not Natalie Portman! And Natalie Portman thanked everybody i her acceptance speech--excep this dancer who did the dancing!
is using Wix to make my website really that easy?
I am watching this , once again : it' s funky funny the genetic " similitude" of our way of talking with m'y little twin russian sister, me too when i lie so rarely but a few times my look goes to another direction different of my listening person in front of me ; and i talk since i was young with my hands maybe cause of the serie MADAME EST SERVIE ( french title) with Alyssa Milano o and Tony Bonanza , ah ah !
Tony Bonanza?! My sister Crystal also called Tony Danza Tony Bonanza back in the day! #LOL
a mila tem uns olhos lindos e profundos...adorooooooooooo ela!!!
Maybe they had no access to tv and magazines. Or only certain magazines.
nope I am too.
@8:50: hahaha...she really shouldn't have said that...they do have black people in Russia, remnants of Ethiopian/Somali immigrants. Just like there are many of us Vietnamese there in Russia...we're not all just boat people in Cali.
WOW I didnt know she was Russian! Cool story!
I adore Mila Kunis.... but asking your parent if there are purple or green people out there just because she didn't know that black existed? Seriously!!?? Come on, she was 7 years old not 3. Surely she must have seen those old soviet cartoons about the pirates where black people were featured. Unless she lived in a bush))
Well, she said she didn't watch TV...
Mila Kunis came to America at a time when the Soviet Union, as we know it, would eventually be history!
@cuckos95 jewish parents? by saying that your implying she isnt jewish when in fact she is
@SmoothCinnamonX not really. She is white, just a little tanner
@BreakfloorNerd Ukraine*
2:02
well she surely isn't "poor" now
very beautiful
she is so amazing actress and the most beautiful woman in the world
Ukraine FTW
interesting
MEG GRIFFIN!!!
it's a shame capable people had to actually renounce their education after coming to the states..
She is Jewish like Gwyneth Paltrow, Seth Green, and Natalie Portman.
She would be perfect for Kellan Lutz. They would make gorgeous babies!
What . . . ?
Mila was groomed. Her parents knew exactly what they were sacrificing.
Mila Kunis can turn a straight girl gay!
She copies Angelina Jolie a lot. Ever since Gia, she's trying to be like her.
@xcuerdenx Haha, there's that damn heteronormativity catching up to me again...
Isn't that counter productive?
shes up heself
@xcuerdenx Maybe the only straight girl...
this guy is breathing very loud, kinda scary
im gay for mila x9
The video is most popular with:
Female 13-17
Female 18-24
Female 25-34 HAHAHA
OMG ITS MEG...... :D:D:D
Mila is beautiful. She's just extremely skinny but she's naturally that skinny. She's good though-great personality. This is a girl ill be cool with her in real life.
You're not. :)
she came in 1991, lol
MEG GRIFFIN :|
So freaking hot!
xD wow, you really do a lot of unnecessary thinking in your mind. Doesn't matter if she had 1 or 5 channels, she didn't watch TV
They can't dance. They had body doubles.
So hot.
Both Jewish
No television in Soviet Union ? Hahahahaaa is that a joke ? Well, my parents grew up in a small town in the USSR and they had brilliant programs, theaters , museums, artists! And it was only in a tiny tiny town ! There were genuine singers, actors that you don't have till today ! So do not believe this lie about USSR ! No television?! Don't make me laugh for God Sake !
Because one area in a gigantic country represents the country as a whole
Sorry, I couldn't understand what you mean (
Meaning the Soviet Union was gigantic, things were bound to vary in different places of the Soviet Union. Also, you have to keep social and economic status in mind. In Mila's experience, there was no TV.

marrrrrry meeeeeeeeeee :|
mila is a smokin hot jew chick!
Why are Mila and the interviewer flirting?
Like Ashton Kutcher, maybe. ;)
How so?
YOU HAVE NEVER BE POOR
How would you know 😂😂
are there pink people? haha.
lol bs
@meehee45 Lmao! Seriously made me laugh out loud.
To get the American visa, Jews from the USSR, invented colourful sad stories of how they were oppressed here. USA embassy cried with tears and gave them American visas as soon as possible.
Mila's parents made these stories, told it to Mila. Now she repeats them. This is what I say.
Mila was born in one of the most Jewish-populated cities of the USSR. However she says of terrible antisemitism in her city. Who did it? Jews themselves?
my jewish mother and her family lived in Ukraine around the same time. coming to America was not easy at all. for a long time they tried to leave but they were not allowed until 1992, after the fall of USSR. please don’t assume things and be so ignorant.
just gorgeous...
Damn this mila kunis is one cute chick
i like the way she said her name Milena.
Mila Kunis was born Milena Markovna Kunis, if you want to know her real name for sure!
I love her and Natalie
I bet you only 10 people who know her know about that shit. People love her regardless of her childhood. You don't know her, you didn't know how she lived so all you talk is pure speculation.
@someonelivingnow I'm sayin' it
THAT 70s SHOW!
x'D lmao
I always remember her from that as Jackie :)
(Speaking of which, I really wish Jackie and Hyde ended up together.. lmao!)
I think Natalie and Mila should get married. :D
that first clip was showing more of natalie portman than mila kunis....
i love her laugh
beautiful AND smart ;)))
Actually, blue people do exist.
I love Mila's laugh
I am constantly Impressed by the intelligence and demeanor of celebrities.
her eyes are different! but beautifully different
Great acting by both of them. Incredible hard work to do what they did. But it was still a dumb movie.
Thoughtful...

@JillVirkus What?! Really? LOL Belgium had it's infamous colony in the Congo, which must have produced exposure to Africans somehow.
no she's not russian, nor ukrainian. she stated that she was born in ukraine with jewish parents, check it in wikipedia
