@@jwristen24 I've seen a lot his vids as well. He is in Kansas, Kyle is in Illinois. Im researching costs in different areas for different types of structures as I will be building in Texas next year. Contacting people out in the area I'll be moving to has yielded very little information as they only want to give average cost/sq ft. for turn-key completion. I'm a finish carpenter and will be doing most of the final work myself after drywall, electrical, hvac, and plumbing is done.
It would be nice to see a tour of the build once completed inside too. It's still a dream to have y'all build me sumtin, the craftsmanship & attention to detail are amazing...
I've never seen a builder so precise and meticulous. Someone to mentor. Quality craftsmanship is a lost art anymore. All about how cheap and how fast the project can be finished
@@gainerspota big learning curve for sure but I found some great people to partner up with. So far we have done 8 car port style projects, 4 fully enclosed with the average of 40x60 being the common size. Metal was the hardest part for me. For the time being I hired a very experienced metal crew and I’ve been learning from them. Nothing like on site hands on learning. I haven’t done anything too crazy. All just rectangular builds with some lean toos. It’s been fun! Can’t wait to get some more under my belt!
Amazing job! It's incredible to see how far simple post frame buildings have come in the past few years. I'm always impressed by your builds, material selections, and attention to detail. I wish I could have had you do our building!
Pure joy watching your content. What we need now.... we need builders like yourself to "certify" builders in other locations so that those of us that don't live near you can find builders that will use the same techniques as we see in these videos. It's always disappointing to watch these techniques just to find that the builders in our areas don't! I want this quality and craftsmanship, but have no way to guarantee I'll get it once the deposit check clears the bank. Just a thought...
At first I was thinking I didn't want to watch a clip show of this project. But dang your editor is awesome. Love this style of video. Just like the dugout build. Just work, no drama
Hi I’m a framer/builder for a general contractor in Roanoke Virginia, and if you don’t mind I have a few questions for you. 1. What is the air nail gun you were using that you tan out of nails with twice and what is its advantage over standard air nail guns? 2. Did the owner opt out of siding and why? 3. What was the ballpark cost of that structure? 4. You have the best tools/equipment, and you do a very quality work especially compared to industry standards, how do you make such a company profitable? Is RUclips a significant financial supplement? I am curious in different building styles and methods versus your conventional framing which is what I do mostly thanks for any input!
This may sound weird or crazy. But I'm jealous you get to build stuff like that all the time. That's like a dream job of building custom homes and post barn type. Great work as always.
I've never heard of full post frame building but my experience was building Habitat for Humanity houses which is the typical stick frame build. I did that for a couple of years until life changed direction. We inherited a cinder block built house when my husband's grandmother died and I want to demo it and start from the concrete foundation, add to it and build up. It was built in the 40s as a summer home so it's very small and possibly not structurally sound. We need to get an engineer out to look at it. I'm going to show my hubby this video and see what he thinks of this kind of build in case it turns out we have to demo the existing structure. Thanks for putting this out.
Found the channel searching pole barns so, of course, your first video I watched was “Don’t call it a pole barn!” Just quality, all the time, and a few jokes here and there. Great opportunity to learn and then go out and put that learning into practice 👍
Hey guys - I went to check out the building plans for this job to see the sq. ft. and layout. I suppose the box really is all that matters. Still, some demensions would be helpful. If anything, a layout would help me to determine if something like this will work for us. Just need overall demensions to see if it'll fit our requirements. Thanks again for all you've done. I'd really like to see the siding, inside, and a final cost breakdown w/o labor included if possible. Thanks you guys!
When RR builds a house completely and does it NOT good, NOT better, but BEST all the way the $$$ go up, up, up. You'll save money in the long run, they will say. We all want it done the best but I must find how to build, and build quality but not spend, spend, spend till my daddy takes the T-bird away.
Where did you learn to build post frame? I'm interested in learning some basics so any educational resources you could give would be awesome. Love the videos! Such high quality and meticulous work, keep it up.
Wszystko z drewna. Bardzo solidna ta konstrukcja. Taka idealna na wichury. NIe macie tam w USA cegieł albo betonu, bo później we wiadomościach widze rozsypany cały dom jak przejdzie tornado i nagle "wielka tragedia". Beka z was xD
Looks faster (thus cheaper) than a 'normal' house build, but does look like a tad more 'industrial building' looking. Even a single dormer would really improve it. Love the idea of new approaches, so this is a great video/project. I think the roof trusses saved TONS of time, and can go wide spans without center support, but sacrificed any storage / living space above. Could a higher roof pitch be put on, (adding support hidden in a 1st story wall) and add some living area on a 2nd floor be done? If so, it would look really like a home. That being said, the porch is a nice addition.
I'm not sure what my favorite part was. Probably Greg getting blasted with air gun exhaust. Lol. More likely, the drone fly through of the truss system. 👍
I've watched the entire build playlist. Amazing build and attention to detail. I would only hope to have such a home. Whats the square footage of this house?
I have seen other post framers on youtube not put sheathing on the roof or the siding. What are the pros and cons to sheathing? Seems like if you are putting metal roofing or siding its not entirely necessary, and it doesnt seem like sheathing provides much for air barrier or insulation that spray foam or 3" insulation board with flashing tape wouldnt.
Wonderful project. Kudos. Have any of your customers on a home like this financed the project? If so, kind of financing? Conventional financing eligible? Non-conventional? Appraisal values (contributory value of the home) relative to construction cost?
You can finance post frame homes if the posts aren’t going in the ground. As you see here Kyle used sturdiwall wet set brackets to keep the posts above ground. Perma columns would be my favorite option but the wet set brackets are fantastic. Midwest Perma Column can get you squared away with answers on what you need and getting it financed like you would a stick house. Best guys in the business, same guys Kyle and Mr postframe both use. Brad and Dave are great.
Where's the cost savings? Lumber? We do raised foundations in my area, I'm thinking additional cost in cement wall for post frame would have net zero effect.
Interesting on the patio cover, why did you put the joists parallel to the house instead of perpendicular? I have never seen that before. You are a beast on this stuff so I am sure there is good reason. Just wondering. Video was awesome.
One question I have is in regards to the 8' separation between posts. This isn't a requirement is it? Is the spacing of posts relative for each building constructed? On this house in the video, could scissor trusses have worked as well?
I guess technically, you could build a post frame without a slab right? Just wood flooring secured to the posts. I can't find anyone doing that. But it's certain to cut quite a few costs eh?
i'm sitting here thinking that i could never count how many nails and screws and other various fixings you've used in your various builds is there a typical number for size per sq ft or something because i either have far too many when i build something or i run out and need far more than i would have ever anticipated thanks
Kyle, what is the benefit to putting sheathing and felt paper down on the roof before the metal panels rather than screwing the metal panels right to the pearlends?
Nice barndo! What's the wind storm rating on a building like this? I know down here on the Gulf coast they're pretty picky about homes and such, but this is the perfect house for me!
Do you have to calk outside of the window frame? Ive noticed a lot of tiny bugs getting in my house and dying on the ledge... not sure how theyre getting in.
What is your opinion on scratch or blemish proof sheet metal? Have you used it before and is it worth the extra money? It looks like wood and other materials also.

@Kyle - How much less in contrast to a standard stick building?
Hard to say percentage wise and it all depends on the design of the structure. Cost savings comes in foundation system as well as shell costs
