The part where Tai says "I never had straight friends before" was her thinking "straight-edge" or people who don't use any drugs, drink, or smoke, while Cher and Dionne being in California at the time thought she meant not gay.
So the reason they had Josh and Cher be ex-step siblings is because this is an adaption of the classic Jane Austen book “Emma”. In the book Josh’s character is a family friend who is distantly related to Emma’s family and stays with them in the house, so this was the modern version of being somewhat related but trying not to be too creepy about it, and still have Josh be a constant presence in the house.
the OJ Simpson murders and trial was huge at the time this movie was made. Kato Kaelin was a friend and basically a freeloader that lived a OJ's house during the time that he murdered his wife. everybody associated with that case became really famous at certain points. so, the "actually, Kato..." line was Cher calling Josh a freeloader. lol
Also, Kaelin wasn't considered very bright - he would've made a good third wheel to Bill & Ted, so since Cher thinks that his argument doesn't make sense, that also applies. haha
Such an iconic movie! ‘90s classic for sure. On a side note, Cher and Josh were NOT blood-related. Cher’s father was just briefly married to Josh’s mother when she already had Josh, and then came the stepbrother “title”... but ok, I can still see how that can be weird for some. Here’s another 1990s classic: THE CRAFT!
Yes to The Craft! Also, what if the parents were only married like 6 months? That cancels him as an option forever? I don’t think that’s fair. Now, if they like grew up together and were steps for a long time, that’s a little different…
I don’t know why so many people I’ve seen react to this movie thinks Josh and Cher are weird as a couple. They make it clear so many times that not only are they not related, but they weren’t even raised as siblings. Their parents were married for like two years several years before this movie even happened. The only reason Josh still hangs around with Cher’s dad is because he was a lot of help to Josh. I don’t find the fact they got together weird at all.
It’s still odd lol just having the title step anything just has weird ties to it. He could’ve been someone who just stays with them, it would be less awk.
@@luvvvv124 yeah like an intern or something. it doesn't personally bothers me (bc when I watched it I didn't even understand half of it, I was like 8 lol) and I love the movie itself, but if it were released today it wouldn't go well.

The whole era of this movie was the best: internet had been around for only around 4 years (first website went live in 1991), people had technology but it didn’t engulf most of their days like it is today so I think they got to hang out face-to-face more, the fashion for the most part was casual yet edgy/preppy, TV and gaming were both at their golden age... gosh how I miss the 1990s..

They are not blood related! Their parents were married for a short amount of time. It didn't concern us at all when it came out - different times! This is when my major Paul Rudd crush began and has never abated. Alicia Silverstone was gorgeous in this, we all wanted to look like her. This film is based loosely off Jane Austen's Emma.
There’s not even a hint of an actual sibling relationship because they were never raised together. Besides, NOBODY uses the term ex-step anything because it just isn’t a thing. Its like when I used to use the term cousin-in-law for some of my family members who were close but not actually related to me in any way except for the fact that two people in our extended family got married. That’s it. It just makes no sense to ‘cringe’ at two people who were never actually family in any real sense.
@@Ivy94F omg I used that phrase growing up to describe family friends who weren't blood related but they attended every gathering, it wasn't until my teen years I realized my parents just would use term "cousin in laws" or "semi-cousins" I did feel bad once though cause they just introduced me as their "cousin"
Exactly! I don't know why people get so hung up on the ex-stepbrother thing. I mean, yeah, it's unconventional, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. If they actually grew up together as stepbrother & stepsister, then it would be gross. But the movie makes it a point to say that her dad & his mom were only married for a very short period of time & split up five years ago. So they presumably spent very little time around each other. It seems like Josh kept in touch with her dad some after the divorce, but really only started coming around a lot recently because he's in college now & wants to be a lawyer, so he's learning the ropes from Mel.

Christian's fashion, speech, and personality is based off of 1940s-1960s East Coast tough guy personas. That's why Cher's father asks Christian if he thinks the death of Sammy Davis, Jr left an opening in The Rat Pack -- which included Davis, Frank Sinatra, and a couple other people who were the epitome of that style and vibe during that era. Kinda like Goodfellas, but in the entertainment industry instead of the mob (though Sinatra was believed to have mob ties. There's even a character based on him in The Godfather)

I saw Don’t Say A Word in the theatre. My first time seeing Murphy, I think. I thought she was phenomenal in that film. It was also my first Sean Bean film, too. Exciting movie and definitely worth a watch.
"Clueless" is loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel, "EMMA." Modern version ... The totally talented and beautiful Brittany Murphy who passed away so young
You guys seriously make me so happy when you react to some of my favorite movies (like Mean Girls and Bridesmaids to name a couple) haha like for some reason, seeing guys react to iconic chick flicks is so entertaining to me! Btw, this was one of my first movies where I was introduced to Brittany Murphy, along with "Girl, Interrupted", which is my all time favorite novel turned into film, tbh. If ya'll do it, you seriously won't be disappointed, but it truly is an incredible drama with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, who ended up winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for it (and absolutely DESERVED!!) Truly love you guys and I am always so excited to see what y'all come out with next!
One of my all time favorites. I remember seeing it for the first time at my great-grandmother's house after she went to sleep and I randomly found it on TV lol. I believe it was 2001 then. I still associate it with that memory to this day. Also, Brittany Murphy was one of my favorite actresses after that so her death was a tough loss. 💕
Great reaction to one of my all-time favorites! I would love to see you react to Emma (2020) with Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma (Cher) and Mia Goth (whom you know from X and Pearl) as Harriet (Tai). It’s fun to spot all of the similarities and differences between the two adaptations. And needless to say, both actresses are great in their roles!
This movie is so hilariously 90s lol I love the reaction and Im glad y'all didn't take it seriously and just enjoyed it for what it is. Also zuff is hilarious he catches the vibes every time lol
Brittany Murphy has a KILLER club track back in the days of my clubbing. Faster Kill Pussycat us the name and it really showcases how good she is. It was her breakout song, but unfortunately she died soon after.
I need y’all to watch To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything; Julie Newmar. Best Wesley Snipes, John Leguizamo and Patrick Swayze movie! Also the movie Selena!!!!!!! I never see reactors watch that movie and Selena is such a huge Mexican-American icon and that movie really made J-Lo a household name.
It’s funny they think they look so old. Alicia Silverstone (Cher) was 18, Brittany Murphy (Tai) was 17, Jeremy Sisto (Elton) was 20, Donald Faison (Murray) and Breckin Meyer (Travis) were 21. Paul was 26 and Stacey Dash (Dionne) was 28 but the others weren’t that old. As teenagers we just looked older in the 90’s and 00’s.
I don't have an issue with Cher and Josh because they didn't grow up together as siblings (unlike Allison and Luther-UA). Their parents were married for like a year when Cher and Josh were teens. The age gives me more hesitation for sure, but when they get together she's 16 and he's 18. But since this is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma where the ages were 21 and 37, at least it's a smaller age gap.
This movie is the modern day "Emma" by Jane Austen. Seriously. So you guys should watch one of the "Emma" movies and see the comparisons between the two.
I saw this in the theater with my family. On the way home, I asked my mom, a public school teacher about the grades thing, and she said "if you can argue it, and they accept, it's legit."
so same as alicia silverstone and I bet lol I had recently started elementary school, so I sadly don’t remember that time… looks like it was an awesome time to be a teen though!
OMG - you guys cut out THE best joke ...possibly in movie history: Amber: 'Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose. Dionne: Well, there goes your social life.
IT ISN'T WEEEEIRD! They're not blood related and they weren't even raised together, their parents were married for like 2 years, people just need to get the f over it! (Although I don't get why would they change the relationship dynamic of the book where he's actually the brother of her sister's husband, but ok)
They definitely should have kept the dynamic from the book because same house or not, yeahhh I couldn't date or consider being with anyone who was at one point my step-brother lmao.
Well I’m not sure about the book but I didn’t find it weird either because they weren’t even close at all. Cher said “u were hardly married to her, that was five years ago”. He didn’t even live in her house since he was in college. It would be weird if they lived in the same house and their parents are married…then absolutely not
They did that a lot back in the day with shows and movies, I used to watch the Brady Bunch and didn't even put the two together for Greg and Marsha. There was another thing I watched with similar issues but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head right now. But it was very common "back in my day" to have that in stuff, it's made me rethink the stuff I was shown for sure!
36:25 watching this again, because I love the channel, IF , without looking, you ever did “Girl Interrupted” I THINK I would have seen. Wink, wink nudge nudge Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida
21:57 as an oldest brother who's gotten calls like that from a sister, please for the love of god start out something like "Hey, I'm ok, I'm fine, I'm safe, just please come get me and we'll talk about it...I'm (location)". We'll be there.
There's no such thing as "step-siblings". Siblings are brothers with at least one parent in common, so blood-related. Of course "step-siblings" makes no sense. They are former step-brothers, who don't even live together. Josh was nothing to the family, he was only around because Cher's father knew him and liked him, especially because he wanted to be a lawyer too.
*Classic* RIP Brittany Murphy (one or if not her first movie role)... I actually remember when girls use to talk like this (as if) 😅😅😅 Thanks guys 😁 for reacting to this.
My mother was married 4 times. I have ex step-sisters I've never met. There is no evidence in this movie that they ever had some sort of sibling relationship. As opposed to the novel Emma, where Knightly is 16 years older, and specifically mentions holding Emma when she was a baby.

Rob always says Psyche before Scrubs when Donald Faison is on the screen 😂 Pitch Perfect video toooo!

Checks today upon seeing video 71k
y'all are growing SO FAST! Keep it up I love your reactions
This is my all time favorite movie I can still quote every word
OMG I looooove this movie XOXO
Cher and Josh r so cute together 😻
This movie is so hilariously 90s lol I love the reaction and Im glad y'all didn't take it seriously and just enjoyed it for what it is. Also zuff is hilarious he catches the vibes every time lol
The way Rob's voice sounded when he said "She wants to spend time with you, her ex-stepbrother, it's normal" at 41:13, did something to me 😏🤭
RIP to Brit! I loved her
Mr hall is the voice of Rex in toy story. I love this movie 🍿 it's my favorite movie
I can't tell you how many times I watched this movie when it first came out.
I never see reactors watch that movie and Selena is such a huge Mexican-American icon and that movie really made J-Lo a household name.
heavy on selena, they’d love tht movie
oh my god yes SELENA 😭😭❤️
It’s funny they think they look so old. Alicia Silverstone (Cher) was 18, Brittany Murphy (Tai) was 17, Jeremy Sisto (Elton) was 20, Donald Faison (Murray) and Breckin Meyer (Travis) were 21. Paul was 26 and Stacey Dash (Dionne) was 28 but the others weren’t that old. As teenagers we just looked older in the 90’s and 00’s.
congrats on your subscribers!!! this movie is so iconic. excited to watch this one with you!
I LOVED Bryce's reaction to the kissing scene!!!!
Brittany Murphy was a singer btw lol. She was in Happy Feet.
Definitely love movie week- you guys should watch "He's Just Not that Into You"
I don't have an issue with Cher and Josh because they didn't grow up together as siblings (unlike Allison and Luther-UA). Their parents were married for like a year when Cher and Josh were teens. The age gives me more hesitation for sure, but when they get together she's 16 and he's 18. But since this is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma where the ages were 21 and 37, at least it's a smaller age gap.
16 and 18 is technically illegal but still fine
This movie is the modern day "Emma" by Jane Austen. Seriously. So you guys should watch one of the "Emma" movies and see the comparisons between the two.
The 1996 version with Gwyneth Paltrow is my favorite
I am also very scared of the freeway like Dionne lol 😂
42:00 I love how uncomfortable your reactions are🤣
I went to see this when it came out, it totally confirmed the fact that I was gay hahaha. I loved it.
I saw this in the theater with my family. On the way home, I asked my mom, a public school teacher about the grades thing, and she said "if you can argue it, and they accept, it's legit."
Fun fact, she really didn't know how to pronounce Haitians. They didn't correct her because it was such a funny moment that they decided to keep it
also it makes more sense this way
Yall needa watch The Craft
Yes, and you'll get to see "Travis" in a completely different role...
05:41 That government-get-to-the-kitchen analogy is not only crazy, it's _inconceivable!_
brittany murphy actually did sing in that party scene. she had a pretty decent hit paul oakenfold called faster kill pussycat.
“She could be a farmer in those clothes…..”
LOVE that you made the Joseph Gordon Levitt comparison. Honestly confused them for a little bit.
Zuff gets it 😅👀
Tye passed out at the party bc she was hit with the clog (a style of shoe, which in the 90s included solid wood soles) 19:51 😵💫
Re-visiting an old favorite from the channel ❤
As a girl who graduated the year this came out .I can tell you how much it hurts to get hit on the head by heeled, wood clog shoe. Brutal lol
so same as alicia silverstone and I bet lol I had recently started elementary school, so I sadly don’t remember that time… looks like it was an awesome time to be a teen though!
45:24 Her father must have thought Josh was better than anyone else. Because Josh was someone he trusted.😌
OMG - you guys cut out THE best joke ...possibly in movie history:
Amber: 'Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.
Dionne: Well, there goes your social life.
Another very quotable movie
41:47 had me laughing for 5 minutes straight 😭😭
@@diamcole it would be weird if they grew up together like siblings but they're parents were not even married that long so to me it's not weird! imo
Some said that their parents barely even married for 1 year and they never really live together too
36:25 watching this again, because I love the channel, IF , without looking, you ever did “Girl Interrupted” I THINK I would have seen.
Wink, wink nudge nudge
Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida
Probably a shot in the dark but “The Northman” is damn good.
😅 2:15 25K subscribers, giggle, giggle, and look at you all now. Loving the bear and Anne with an E ❤
I beg you guys react to The Princess Diaries!
both 1&2!!!
Finally my favorite react channel does my favorite movie 🥺🥺🤍 Silverstone still the most beautiful women in my eyes
You should watch How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days!
LOL Princess Sophia...
“What are you doing, ex stepbro” 😂😂😂
The actor that plays Tai died in 2009. She was Winon Ryder's bestfriend :(
Brittany Murphy and wtf it’s been 15 years already! and aww :(
It should've been called "The Girl from the Mall helps Mr. Hall"
to make the right call and then sets up a small stall and it turned out well overall despite the pitfall(s)
