  • I apologize in advance for the horrible GoPro angle... was way too low. So last month, we had a solid day of rain that bumped up river levels to truly monstrous proportions. This was a run that started on the Shenandoah Staircase, and culminated in the highest water level I've ever paddled the Potomac at by Harper's Ferry. The Staircase was running around 9.5 feet, and the Potomac was at 15.5 feet. The best way to describe the rapid at that level is absolutely frantic paddling away from giant holes and breaking waves, while trying not to openly panic at the thought of flipping or swimming.
