Addressing Sharon Knutson and Love Notions: In my sewing days, which is still happening, but in pattern making days we ALWAYS used a thin twill tape on shoulder seams or clear thin elastic tape on shoulder seams and in some necklines with lots of stretch. You will still find this on high end clothing. It prevents the over-stretching of the seams and out of shape look. I still prefer that because today's fabrics really have lots of stretch and is easy to have that stretched out look.
I apply a one-inch strip of fusible interfacing to the back shoulder seam before stitching - unless that has to be eased in.
Thank you for your step-by-step tutorial those are always nice. However around minute marker 9.50 you said the grain line runs perpendicular to the salvage edge the grain line always runs parallel to the salvage edge

I caught that too. What I found confusing for a beginner sewer is the way the fabric is laying on the table, it is difficult to tell if she refolded the fabric so the “ribs/grainline” is going the same as the center back/front fold or has she refolded so she is cutting the pattern so the stretch, which is across the fabric is going across the pattern. You always want the length of the pattern going the same direction as the selvege so the stretch goes arounf the body.
I just finished making this tee shirt. It came out very professional looking even though it was only the second tee shirt I've ever sewn. My HIGH bust measurement put me between sizes small and medium. I made size medium even though the instructions say to size down if in between sizes. I'm glad I did because the shoulders fit me perfectly (my shoulders are a bit broad). The crew neckline was perfect also. I really like that the shirt curves in a little bit at the waist and the sleeves are a little like cap sleeves, both giving it a feminine look.

When you find the size that fits your shoulders, you have found your size, as the rest can be altered as needed.
This is one of those rare patterns which don't require any adjustments for me. I love it!

For the notches, I like to cut them IN on the pattern. That way I find them easier to mark with a marker.

Could you show a tutorial where we are shown how to fold the selvages to the center so that you can cut both the front and back on the fold, with most sizes, for less fabric usage .

I absolutely LOVE This pattern. Once I made all the adjustments for my body. It is the only pattern o use for my t-shirts, and I have made a lot of them.
I keep making them cause now I have it down to where I don’t even read the instructions I just make it on my server/cover stitch and knock it out in about 2 hours.
I always have several cut out and ready to go. If I lose my sew jo I just start with this and it gets me going.

For any pattern using bands of the same fabric, I cut the bands first all the way across one end of the fabric using the band's width. I total how much length I need for the bands so if I need more than one width of total length, I cut two of these strips. The very last thing I need is not enough fabric for the bands after I've cut everything else out.

The vertical grain of the fabric generally runs *parallel* to the selvedges, not perpendicular like she said.
Yes parallel to selvedge, perpendicular to the cut line generally :)
You did a great job describing everything you were doing, and I liked that you used your sewing machine. It's what most beginning sewest would use.

Great tutorial. For beginners it would be nice to see the top stitching around the neck arms and hem. Do you still use the lightening stitch? Love your patterns fit bigger sizes.

Good question! Do you mean around neckline, sleeves and hem? Not around the armscye, right? The stitch depends on the garment. Some peeps use a long straight stitch to hem, some a zig zag, or a triple stitch. Also a double needle! I think there may be a video or blog somewhere on our socials about it, I will have to check! ~J
Love your fabric choice, beautiful! Thank you for this tutorial. I'm really not a beginner but thought it would be a good idea for a refresher. I like to place clear elastic on the neckline and shoulders to prevent stretching.

Make sure you have enough material to cut another pattern piece on the fold. That’s why I lay out all pieces before I starting to cut.
I almost always do that too! Nothing worse than cutting out everything but the sleeves abs realizing you don’t have enough fabric left 😱

I always thought with knit fabrics the shoulder seams should be stabilized. Also, I’m wandering the stretch percentage for this pattern.
25% is plenty :) and we don’t usually stabilize shoulder seams unless the fabric is a very loose weave or there is a lot of weight dragging down the garment - like a tiered dress or something. :)
Hi thanks for sharing this lovely pattern. But the bit that I find the most difficult to perfect is the sewing of the neck band. With all of the clips in place is it no longer necessary to stretch the band while sewing? Many thanks. X
The clips help the stretch be applied evenly :) it’s still stretched but I don’t have to apply it by hand at the machine :) so yes, the band is still stretched but I don’t have to do too much of it between the clips

Thank you for the video. I am a beginner sewer. I want to try this tshirt but I noticed you didn’t show how sew on the neckline. Is that provided with the patter?
You’ll sew it just the same way you sew the side seams or shoulder seams :) pin or clip the band, the sew it together with a lightening stitch at 3/8 inch seam allowance :) I actually was running out of time on filming - but we can film that part in a new video too if that would be helpful :)

Is there a reason why you wouldn’t sew the neckband on before you sew the sleeves and side seams?
I suppose you could. I think it might be a bit easier to maneuver with the side seams assembled :)

If I want to make the Classic T with a curved hem, what pattern is best to mesh with it?
I don't think you need to mesh it with a pattern at all. Do you have a curved ruler you can use to draw a curve? Or you can just free hand draw the curve. If you really want to mash 2 patterns.. you can try La Bella Donna. ~K
I didn't catch how the hemline comes up in the middle-....
