    See what goes down when a rig breaks down. The guys at the shop are hard at work with the constant flow of rigs that come in needing repairs. They are doing a fantastic job thus far and Im sure they will keep it up! If youre wondering, Rescue 1 is NOT in the shops. They have a 5 year warranty on the rig which they can either get a completely new one or the rig is currently in NJ at the Ferrara sales representatives/repairs of New Jersey awaiting the repairs. The new Ladder 12 is at the rock

    Every single one of these fire engines are unique!! Custom built to the specifications the individual fire houses require!

    Back in the 90's I got the privilege of touring the LAFD shops and the primary units being worked on then were Crown Fire Coaches and Seagrave Ladder Trucks. Nice work. There I got photos of the shop and units.

    I use to take tours of this place when I was a kid in the 1970's (thanks to my mom being with the NYPD). It was awesome back then and still is now.

    Great and rare video. Couldn't help but think about the logistical point. Not to mention their reserve fleet they must have to have all these units in the shop. Always been curious what a major cities plan is for replacement of units.

    Satellite units are used when there is a high rate of fire.They do not have pumps of there own, housed as a secondary engine to a company with a 2000GPM pumper. Normally called out on the 2nd alarm if I am remembering right. Theyre equipped with a deck gun with changeable tips that can push around 5000GPM depending on the how many lines are feeding it. They also carry extra foam and hoses. Basically just a wagon with a big gun.

    there are about as many trucks just in the repair garage as there are in a small cities entire fire fleet lol

  • @8responsible8
    @8responsible8 11 лет назад

    most are either (if still in good working order) are usually sold to smaller depts, placed in reserve, or used for training, or repurposed. The rest are used for parts, scrap, sent to junk yards. a small portion are sunk to create artificial reefs, restored, used as movie/tv props. This is just with different depts in general each dept might do its own thing.

    Only reason I can think to pull it out would be some kind of structural integrity issues with the ladder itself, we had a tower pulled out of service for stress cracks on the boom during an inspection. Other than that the 2001 didn't look like it was in bad shape compared to some of the spares they are sending out.

  • @captaijimbob101
    @captaijimbob101 11 лет назад

    Scotsfire that engine with the full length light bar is a 2002/2003 E-ONE ,used mostly for funerals or a spare. I believe it used to be used as engine 55

    most trucks with short aerials have a much shorter wheel base and are thus more maneuverable. also the tandem axel set up found on larger trucks is does not help maneuverability

    Does look like the first Ladder 80 we seen is the now old 80 a 2001 Seagrave 100'RMA. Most likely will be a spare or sold. The 2nd one being the new Ferrara that wasnt put in service yet at the time of the video. Wonder what spare they was using, and why they take the old one OOS before they put the new ones in?
    The new Seagrave's looks nice, I like em.

    Why does the FDNY have SOO MANY fire trucks? Literally they have several English counties worth of fire trucks in just the maintenance/repair shop? does it double as storage as well because some of those vehicles seem quite old. and what about in the actual "firehouses", does that mean they have no vehicle?

    • @CaptainLee
      @CaptainLee 10 лет назад

      They are connected to the exhaust pipes of the truck to bring the carbon from the truck to the top of the station AC unit and released into the air. The tubs keep the firefighters from berthing in bad things.
