When I lived in Iowa, I also often used smoked salmon with avocado and cream cheese in my maki rolls since it was hard to find sashimi grade salmon. Still tastes amazing - I gotta try it with egg sometime too ^^
I love watching your videos, I always send them to my husband so we can try your recipes at home. It's so nice because we live in England and we can make these at home with a quick trip to our local Asian store. Thank you so much, I love experiencing new food.
This looks so delicious!!! I can't wait to try it. Thank you so much for the great instructions and lovely video! Ah, by the way, your English is really good, Yuka. Where did you learn it?

Sweetheart, If you are from spain you might find sashimi on supermarkets like carrefour or lidl, but it's a little overpriced so you might want to learn how to cure it by yourself, process is not very hard and totally worth it! :) Love your videos btw ‹𝟹
Yuka-San, I appreciate your dedication and presentation. I'll try my best to cook these lovely dishes for my wife. Please, keep making these lovely videos!
Thank you so much for this helpful and beautifully shot and edited video. I am definitely going to make these! And they look so pretty once they are made!
I was worried about eating sushi because I’m not used to raw fish but smoked salmon looks just like it so I feel more comfortable using it. I also don’t have a mat to roll sushi so I’m really glad to know I don’t need one to make sushi. I’m going to make the first sushi roll you first introduced. You make everything seem so easy I’m sure I can do it too. I really enjoy your videos
this video was so enjoyable to watch! i firsg found your channel from your onigiri video, and i’ve been in love with this channel ever since! i’m autistic, and am a picky eater due to sensory issues. sushi has always been a food i can eat with almost any topping, and has become a comfort food for me in a sense. this video is always my go to if i need to find some new super easy recipes to make for my school lunches! please keep creating, i adore your channel!
Sorry for the confusion! It's 2tbsp for 330g cooked rice. One cup of uncooked rice will be 330g after cooking. I thought many people use rice cup when measuring rice 😢
wait the japanese rice in spain is so much cheaper than the one in poland! here i only know one store that sells this toyama koshihikari and its like 10 euro for just 1kg? lol cant even find a bigger bag of that one they dont sell it. and then the niigata koshihikari is like 37 euro for 5kg TT (the one in a pink/white bag) i will keep looking TT i already had the niigata koshihikari and it is delicious sweet and fluffy but the price... it hurts haha i will keep looking tho!
Wow, I am shocked to hear how much more expensive rice is in Poland. Perhaps you don't have that large Asian community there who buy large quantities and push the prices down?
You know very well about Japanese rice! 👏 Actually I was surprised that Japanese rice is not that expensive here. The Asian supermarket sells 1kg and 5kg of Toyama Koshihikari. 1kg is 7euro. Hope you can find cheaper one and thank you for the comment 😊
Thank you for sharing, I like how simple you made it look and explained every detail e.g. the correct rice temperature and leaving to rest before cutting. 100% trying this with my family
your sushi rolling skills are great! i dont like smoked salmon in sushi but i like to make california rolls with crabstick, cream cheese avocado and cucumber!
This is so useful!! I live in sweden and I've wanted to make sushi for so long, but I never knew where to get ingredients for the rice. Thank you so much!!
I just found this video today and made the sushi rice, it was SO good I was eating at the same time while I was making the sushi! Thank you for the recipe!
I'm from Turkey and I've just started making sushi myself (after my favorite - and only - sushi place moved). You've given me so many ideas, thank you so much.
I really enjoyed seeing you make all those different types of sushi. ^-^ I will try to make uramaki and nigiri next time. Just without using plastic. I don't think we can afford this any longer or should...
Excellent video!! I learned so much! Will sushi rice get hard if you leave it in the refrigerator overnight? Or if you have leftover sushi, will the rice part get hard?
Thank you for the comment 💓 Unfortunately yes, the rice/the rice part of sushi will get hard if you leave it in the fridge. If you have to leave the rice overnight, I recommend you to put the rice in a container after you make sushi rice, then put it in the fridge, and microwave it for a bit before using :) The rice will get hard if it loses the moisture 🥲
4:00 Oh wow, I didn't know cream cheese on sushi was inauthentic. A sushi place near me has it in a small number of their rolls and those happen to be my favorites. Interesting! I also have a sushi making kit that helps with putting together rolls and such, but I haven't used it in a few years at this point and forget what I usually put in them...
I buy the Japanese and Korean nori, and both have the "lines." I think they are not put intentionally but made on them during the making process. Anyway, you can cut nori anywhere and anyhow, it isn't so difficult.
It will still stick together for it is sticky rice (Japanese short-grain rice/"sushi rice"). The vinegar/sugar/salt solution is for taste and (originally) preserving a little bit longer. (By the way, "sushi" usually means a dish with "vinegared rice." If you don't have vinegar in rice, you have a completely different dish - "Onigiri/rice ball"!)
You can do whatever at home! (I do the same as she does. Especially with kids who don't take Wasabi, you have it by side of soy sauce.) I've done it all my life, and I am a Japanese.
@@yuka_jp Heyy Sorry to bother you again I just wanted to let you know I just made my first sushi ever today and it turned out amazing I made "tuna and cucumber maki" that is shown in a video And for california roll I covered the whole thing with seeds instead of just making a "line" (I don't know if it's common to cover the whole roll in sesame seeds or not, but up until now I've only ever seen people make a "line" over a roll) Long story short this video was very helpful :) Thank you for showing us how to make rice vinegar and thank you for amazing sushi recipe ideas ❤ Ps my family loved it
Um. They don't use smoked salmon. That's a bit weird. You can always get fresh salmon in America but you have to ask a special person for it who works behind the meat counter or the counter where they sell fish.
hii! can anyone explain how they make japanese white rice, because in the US it never tastes like it, but in a restaurant, it does. any tips? any brands that make japanese rice in america?
Are you seasoning your rice properly? American California Calrose rice has always turned out fine for me, but I will say that even with a rice cooker I'm trash as cooking rice 😂 but well seasoned rice can usually save it for the most part.
For me, the vinegared rice in USA restaurants is very weak. You might have to put "sushi-su/zu" more than the instructions say. You better taste during mixing rice and decide if it is enough. (And the rice cookers are wonderful.)
What a lovely presentation this was. Everything looks so delicious. You’ve really inspired me to try making some sushi
When I lived in Iowa, I also often used smoked salmon with avocado and cream cheese in my maki rolls since it was hard to find sashimi grade salmon. Still tastes amazing - I gotta try it with egg sometime too ^^
Yeah fresh one is better, but smoked salmon is also great! Hope you enjoy it with egg 💓
@@yuka_jp Thank you! ^^

Love your no-frills cooking. It's all in your face-simple-japanese-style cooking. Right up my culinary skills!
thank you for this video! all the other sushi videos are so complicated and this was exactly what I wanted: simple at home sushi. thank you!
I absolutely love this videos, so nice to just get home after a long work day and relax to some beautiful japanese cuisine

Hi love your recipe... Want to ask what camera did you use this video... Thank your for responce in advance..
I use sony zv-1 😊
It’s a Saturday afternoon, my husband is napping to catch up on sleep, and I’m binge watching my new favorite RUclips Channel. Thank you, Yuka !
I learned a lot from this. I loved the story of how California sushi came about. Made me laugh.
I'm so happy to find this channel! Have been binging watching for a while, hope to see more❤

I thought "sashimi" meant the thinly-sliced "raw" seafood/meat.....

Thought it was a wooden chopping board 😂😅
Okay he knows it's not authentic. I watched a little more of the video. Thanks for letting us know.
I agree though. Maybe I will try this. The smoked salmon does add a nice touch to it

Balsamic vinegar? Does it work, too?
This is a great video! What kind of mayo do you use?
In Europe any fish found in supermarket was frozen, on package you will see "defrosted product, do not freeze again", so most of them are sushi grade.
What? No no, please don‘t eat any fish raw in Europe besides explicitly sashimi/sushi labelled fish
I will learn that 😌 outside its so expensive 😩

Love The quick education info. I sort of know it but I don’t know it I certainly don’t remember how many so it’s great that you’re adding that in too!
your sushi rolling skills are great! i dont like smoked salmon in sushi but i like to make california rolls with crabstick, cream cheese avocado and cucumber!
I very much prefer raw salmon (or other fish) in sushi but when I tried it I was surprised that smoked salmon also doesn't taste so bad ;)
Me too I prefer raw fish but I have to travel for a long time to get raw fish for sushi 😢😢
Seriously if it wasnt because fish/seafood is kinda exspensive here in denmark, i could live on sushi, i love it and i can so addicted to it hehe
I really enjoyed watching you making such. I’m giving it a go as I love sushi. 👍
Even the 'leftovers' sushi looked good. I'm surprised that you can't get ramen there.

Cutting plastic dulls the blade of a knife. Is it really necessary?
Did she borrow that knife from you or something? 😂

I just made delicious okonomiyaki thanks to you. Now I am going to try sushi! Thanks for making this video, feels easy to do!
Does resting the sushi roll just make it easier to cut?
6:40 did you roll it without bamboo for the looks?
Thank you so much!! Can't wait to try!! :D

11:06 is the seaweed produced with the lines so it‘s easier to make gunkan? or did Nori always have these rims

That was a very lovely video
Just one question
When we lut sushi to "rest" (before cutting and eating it) do we put in a fridge or not?
Thank you!
Usually not in the fridge. If you put it in the fridge, the rice may become hard :)
