- The first group of migrants from the Central American caravan are at America's doorstep. They split from a larger group of about 5,000 planning to request asylum in the U.S. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone is at the border.
I'm Mexican-American, but I don't agree that they should just be allowed into this country like nothing. What about all of the other people who have been working hard and waiting to become U.S. citizens? Where will this caravan go? LA? San Diego? Those cities already have so much homeless as it is

I'm an Irish immigrant in the United States. The process to get my visa was a long and arduous one, taking close to 18 months from start to finish. If the United States lets these people in, can all Irish people just fly to Mexico and cross the border? Is that how this works?

I think with a rational and objective eye, one could only conclude that the United States is a desirable place to live, maybe even one of the worlds most liveable destinations. Leading on from this, one has to acknowledge, therefore, that without border security the country would be overrun by people seeking a better life. If no policy exists for regulating the inflow of people, the United States, as we know it, would no longer be the United States, as we know it.
Listen, I would love if my friends and family could freely come and go from here as they please without the need for the lengthy and tedious Visa process; but that is living in cloud cuckoo land. The economy would collapse and the culture would soon follow if everyone who had aspirations of coming to America could just waltz in. I consider myself left on some issues, right on others and I feel reasoned debate is the solution to all problems. However, there is no reasoned debate to be had with the virtue signalling, victim mentality espousing, far left nut jobs that think open borders without border enforcement is a good idea.

is not easy to obtain a visa and pay as you say... my mother is from el salvador and she has been here in the US since the mid 80s and worked decently for nothing yea i agree they are wasting time seeking asylum but still its not easy to enter the country and as well no money to take care of yoursefl and all those legal procedures in low developed countries in central america. you should do a research before jumping to conclusions

Even if they had come from a war-torn region, and had a reasonable threat of being targeted by their government (neither of which apply) they still could not qualify for asylum because international asylum laws state asylum must be applied for at the first nation at peace that is reached. Since they did not apply for asylum upon reaching Mexico, they've further disqualified themselves from seeking asylum. In fact, there doesn't appear to be ANY asylum criteria these people qualify for. If they had intention of immigrating, they would need to apply and wait to be accepted. Therefore they also do not qualify as immigrants. They HAVE shown clear intent to cross the U.S. border. Since they are not even remotely qualified for asylum, and have not made any effort to legally immigrate, there is only one legal term they do qualify for. That term is "invaders". Regardless of political views, by literal definition, these are invaders. Not immigrants, and certainly not asylum refugees.

My coworker from India came into US in 2002 and finished his PhD in 2007. He started to pay tax and social security from the 1st semester since he worked PT for school. He found his 1st job I 2007 and got laid off in 2009. He found another job 2 months later, paying 40k + tax per year, no child credit, no section 8 , no food benefit . The only record he has is speeding ticket. He didn’t get his green card until 2012. Paying 10 years of tax with no criminal record should qualify him to be a US citizen. What do we expect these people at he border? 4+ kids? Food coupon ? A lot of tax refund? OK I know some politicians want to bring them in , since they have big family and they will vote for you.
Alex :)), I love your last name. Thank you for sharing this, The problem with the illegals that vote is we don't have a system in place which verification of citizenship. They still vote and nobody checks. Yet when I vote I always bring my passport to show I was born American. So many in this country need help and welfare, section 8, food stamps, many of them buy fast food, and have money for lottery tickets. It was sad when I saw it at a QuickTrip one night.

Who ever paid to take this people to Tijuana, should be willing to pay to take them back. I do not understand the reason to take them to Tijuana. Legally they will not cross. Just recently a group of true migrants from Haiti arrived to Tijuana last year. They where really needy not like the Hondurans. Haitians arrived trying to survive on their own and people immediately give them jobs, so they stayed in Tijuana. (Everyone is Happy). This Hondurans didn't make it to TJ. they where brought. and who ever paid to get them should pay to take them back.
Tijuana is the furthest place to take them, the most expensive and the worst place, It is almost December (Winter cold and rain is coming) if they stay on the streets they will die for sure. It will be a big humanitarian crisis man made by who ever paid to take them to TJ.
Any other border city was cheaper to take them and safer from the environment in this season.
Tijuana is the only border they needed to travel the hole length of Mexico. The east coast border was less than half the distance. (No rain and no cold)
If their plan is to cross illegally this is also the worst place to do it. San Diego Border is the biggest gate and has the biggest border patrol, the most capable and with the cutting edge technology in the hole Mexican border. And if there are not enough CPB officers, San Diego has Navy, Army and Air-force bases 20 minutes away from the Border.
It is Just dumb to take people to Cross illegally through Tijuana- San Diego Border. Any other place is 100 times easier.
The only reason to have them in TJ is for the Media. and because California is a blue state, every other border state is red.
If the purpose is to have a humanitarian crisis, it is the best place.
If the purpose is to confront them with the military and CPB, it is also the best place that will generate the most Migrant casualties and most impossible to have success crossing.
I Think migration for the right purpose is OK, but Migration for politics is not OK. Moving people just to have news or politics is not good for anyone.
