Death toll from rains in southern Brazil climbs to 56

- Massive flooding and landslides triggered by days of heavy rain in Brazil's southernmost state have killed 56 people.
The flooding is only expected to get worse, local authorities said, as rescuers scoured the ruins of washed-out homes, bridges, and roads for missing people.

This is the worst situation I've ever experienced. I'm Brazilian, living in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where the floods occurred. It's like a war zone; I've never seen anything like it. Unfortunately, the situation doesn't seem to be improving. Brazilians themselves haven't opened their eyes to this reality yet. While Rio Grande do Sul is underwater because of the floods, on the same day, the state of Rio de Janeiro was celebrating Madonna's concert. Many news reports and spotlights were on the singer, while such a tragedy was happening. Now that the hypocrisy is over, I would like to know if the singer will at least make a donation to help these poor souls. She received more spotlights, more attention from the Brazilian media than the tragedy that devastated an entire state. I hope that other countries, like the USA, speak up and expose the hypocrisy that many Brazilians had to witness in the face of such tragedy, because the American media talked more about the tragedy than the Brazilian media talked about Madonna.
May God bless all the Gaúchos who are suffering from this disaster. I know some people who were born there and they told me their relatives who still live there had to evacuate their own houses as the warning was issued.

Global Warming played a big role in the phenomena that created this disaster.
The US really reducing it's CO2 output per Capita would help more then anything else.
This state is too proud for financial donations.
We prefer just help with the immediate crisis and then business in order to rebuild.
US tried to invade Brazil and even baked a dictatorship in the country even sended CIA spies to their nuclear power plant believe me this isn't a good idea.

The catastrophe there is much bigger than what is being reported here... we are talking about a Brazilian state that has 13 million inhabitants and 450 cities... half of these cities were affected by this... large inhabited centers... . so sad!

AQUI nós temos hidroelétricas, que geram energia limpa em todo o país! As leis ambientais brasileiras são muito rigorosas, nós não somos como a Europa e os EUA que acabaram com suas florestas e sua natureza!
