      Wikipedia rabbit holes tend to help me, maybe they'll work for you? I search up some general topic ('photosynthesis' for example, just anything vaguely related) and read through the article and click any hyperlinks that take you to a different or more specific article. Keep following the subjects and links that interest you and maybe you'll eventually find something you've never seen before and will be compelled to learn more about it! I hope that helps :)

    Hey Maryam, quick question; how difficult was it to use Google Slides to animate for you? I feel like the learning curve for other softwares is pretty steep so I'm curious as to how you were able to do that (ex. the wave bouncing off the barrier)

    • @maryamtsegaye6826
      @maryamtsegaye6826  3 года назад +3

      it's pretty straight-forward. The Slides transitions are pretty user-friendly. I'd suggest experimenting with Slides transitions.
      The wave bouncing off clip was made with images of two waves entering either side of the screen and exiting to the opposite side. But i had a white rectangle on the right side so you couldn't see the wave exit so that it could look like it bounced off. It sounds complicated but it's not that bad, there's just some more creativity needed than with higher-end software.

    • @maryamtsegaye6826
      @maryamtsegaye6826  3 года назад

      I find that wordy sentences and some repetition takes up a lot of time. Sometimes the speed of your speech might as well. In terms of info, think if you’re giving a useful amount of context or if it’s too much. Try to remember that you’re getting the audience interested in the topic and not necessarily covering the entire field the topic has.
      As far as I know, the finalists don’t get prizes. Although a few years ago, one popular vote winner won the CSHL lab for her school.
      I hope that helps!

      For scripting, try to envision your video; storyboarding might be a good idea as well. Think about what your audience would find easiest to follow and maybe use some analogies from everyday life to help them be engaged with the idea.

      As far as I can tell, there is nothing stopping you from picking a similar topic as a previous winner/finalist. The 2015 winner made a video on Relativity and so did the 2017 winner (but she added a twist: the equivalence of reference frames).

      There's an algorithm that helps prevent other people from 'rigging' your results! Don't worry about it, I think the Evaluation Panel watches more than just the top 75 to make sure that the peer-to-peer is fair (don't quote me on that bit though).
