Breakthrough Junior Challenge FAQ/tips!! -- Q&A in the comments!
Here are my answers to frequently asked questions about the Breakthrough Junior Challenge! I might make a more in-depth one in the future.
FINAL TIP I FORGOT: Don't compare your video to other Challengers' videos! It can be demotivating to see thousands of finished products out there while you're still in the early stages of your own.

Hey Maryam Is it fine if we hire a freelancer for the video editing as long as they reference all raw material used?
Hi there! BJC says that you can have someone help you film/edit, but that all the content is original and the video is directed by you. I didn't see anything specific about hiring someone. As for referencing certain pieces of media, the BJC website has the fine print about using copyright media in your video under the 'Rules' section. Hope that helps!

Hello there! I'm attending this year and I have a question. Are competitors informed about whether they have passed at each stage of the competition? For example, I am now not notified of the Evaluation panel review phase and whether I have passed the Administrative review. Does the Breakthrough Junior Challenge only inform the finalists when the time comes? Thank you!!

my teacher picked my topic but I think it's kind of simple to do you have any recommendations for something that would make the video better even if the topic was easy? like if the video is shorter than 3 minutes would that make it fair or..?
Hi, just wanted to ask if you had any tips on how to trim the video to under three minutes because my video is currently six minutes long and it's really difficult to cut things out because all of my info is really important...I would appreciate any tips you had on this. I find that wordy sentences and some repetition takes up a lot of time. Sometimes the speed of your speech might as well. In terms of info, think if you’re giving a useful amount of context or if it’s too much. Try to remember that you’re getting the audience interested in the topic and not necessarily covering the entire field the topic has. As far as I know, the finalists don’t get prizes. Although a few years ago, one popular vote winner won the CSHL lab for her school. I hope that helps!

How complex do the topics have to be? I don’t know string theory or things like that.What resources can I use.
Hey Maryam! Congratulations on your winning last year. I have a doubt. Is that ok if chose black holes as a topic for this year's challenge. It's space exploration. So what I doubt is that black holes haven't been explored. I mean human hasn't been there. So... Is that fine if i select that?
What if you are homeschooled? Then do you choose your mom?
Hey what if i don't have physical demonstration in my video? I mean i ordered a few experiment equipments from a neighboring country and i'm so afraid that the pandemic would hault the shipping process!!! Otherwise, would drawing the experiment by hand decrease my score? Thanks for an amazing video anw!🥰
It's not mandatory. If there's a problem, I'd suggest you improvise with analogies or animations. It doesn't need to be anything fancy!

Yes, as long as you're directing the video and research that's okay. I had my friend help me edit! (he has Luma Fusion, I don't)

No, it doesn't matter. Don't stress too much about what other people are doing!
