  • This control line flying was the rc start back in the 1950's and 60's. This is a unique way of flying rc, very competitive. The plane is called STUNTRESS DREAM GIRL designed by Joe Adamusko. please check our merch store teespring.com/stores/jrca2102...

I flew planes a little as a kid over 60 years ago. Had a friend 30 years ago that also had planes so we went flying a few times. I had a full size Nobler and we flew that with a K&B .45 We crashed the Nobler and then fixed it but it hung in my basement for years. I tossed it out after it fell and broke. I still have my homemade field box and 3 engines and other stuff. Seems like you can hardly find any line models or hardware online. It’s all RC stuff. I always had fun flying except for the crashing part !

What a beautiful performance! Surely Gary has been to the Nats with skills like this. And the engine. Don't hear many tuned to cycle like that. Congratulations on your success!

Very nice flight. Takes me back for sure. I am 73 now. My dad taught me to fly control line at age 4 with 1/2 A class planes. As I grew I advanced into Ringmasters, Noblers and my favorite stunter, the Veco Thunderbird. I also loved flying combat planes with speeds in the neighborhood of 120mph, though I prefered freestyle stunting with them rather than combat as people I would combat with were usually at least twice my age, and size. Been hoping for years to run across anyone who flew at Robert's Field near Birmingham, Alabama in the 50s and 60s. I'm sure many are gone now since most were adults or young adults and only a couple or so were my age. Loved the great flight and especially the overhead eights. Smooth!

Actually RC came before control line. The first RC planes at the nationals were in 1937 & control line planes did not appear at the nats until 1942. RC was not widespread until costs came down in the seventies, although plenty were doing it all along. But that's when even if you wanted a home radio, you built it yourself.
Actor Reginald Denny developed the first radio controlled plane in 1936 & started the 'radioplane' company, selling the first 'Drones' to the Army for towing targets for fighter planes.
He also owned a hobby shop in Hollywood.

@@jacksonrcaviation Thank you for a swell video! I can't get enough control line ! I have a pile of RC planes and none of them have the pull on your arm that is so satisfying. Pulling out of a wingover at four feet off the ground is always a thrill.

I tried several times with control line, way back when. I wrote off too many planes. To get these sorts of skills I should imagine there have been several piles of wreckage along the way.
