Played through as Kotetsu on the machine's default difficulty level.
Monster Maulers is a game that was released at the height of the worldwide versus-fighting game craze, and though it is a fighting game, it's quite different from the likes of Street Fighter II, Fatal Fury, or Mortal Kombat.
Many of the fights are one-on-one and special moves can be done with the classic Hadouken quarter-circle motion, but it is more of a "boss rush" style game than a versus-fighter. Think of it as sharing a genre with Red Earth, Alien Soldier, or Street Fighter 2010, and you're in the ballpark.
The centerpiece here is not the gameplay, though, however well executed it may be. So what carrot does Konami so temptingly dangle to draw you over to the Monster Maulers machine?
Superheroes and giant rubber-suited monsters, of course! Monster Maulers is an unabashed love letter to tokusatsu staples of the 70s and 80s, and Konami went all-out to get it right. The graphics are beautifully animated, the sound is cheesy and heroic, the monsters are nasty, and best of all: it has a full, vocal theme song sung by Shimon Masato, a super-famous singer (well, in Japan anyway) who did theme songs for many classic tokusatsu films and shows. (You can hear it at 12:22). The entire game looks and sounds exactly the way you'd expect it to, and it's awesome.

There are also a couple of neat shout outs to other Konami IPs throughout - you fight the eyeball boss from Salamander, a Moai head and the dragons from Gradius, among others.
Like Blanka. And Dr. Zaius cosplaying as Sentinel. Seriously, what is this? Hahaha, it's so bizarre, and I love it.
The gameplay system works extremely well, and given the speed that it plays at, I'm glad that they didn't overcomplicate the controls. At your disposal are three base attacks (weak, medium, and strong), two special moves (requiring SF2-like inputs), and a multitude of throws. Everything chains together nicely into combos, and the game's flow is surprisingly smooth once you get into the rhythm of its timing. It's not an easy game at first, but as you learn the strategies for each fight, you'll find yourself more and more easily being able to finish it. A single credit clear is a reasonable challenge here - it'll take some effort, but it doesn't require inhuman reflexes or psychic ability - just a good sense pattern recognition.
Unfortunately, Monster Maulers was a giant commercial bust, both in America and Japan. Maybe it was doomed from the start because it wasn't patterned after Street Fighter II, but whatever the reason, it's a real shame. It's unconventional, but Monster Maulers is very well made in all respects, and it can proudly hold its (rubbery, deformed) head high while sitting alongside the likes of Metamorphic Force, Violent Storm, Gaiapolis, and Mystic Warriors.
So Konami, how about a home port in one of those fancy collections you've been releasing lately? The game is 26 years old - isn't it about time that you gave it some love?

This game got flooded by the capcom tsunami of street fighter and its spinoffs. This game could’ve potential without being tagged as a street fighter clone. Music is so sentai epic!
If an anime version of this game was ever released, it would be one of those wacky animes worth watching from beginning to end =)
I love how the credit images are all of the heroes getting pwned.
There's also a good ending where they kick their asses (it may be even showing the moments you killed them in your playthrough). You know you got it is, in the last cutscene, instead of their standard victory poses, they look towards the ship and the girl mimics a "bang".

Apparently a home port was in the works, but it was scrapped due to the Hanshin Earthquake.

Today you can have access to it on PC…you can find emulators to this game,I believe on MAME it will run perfect and plus having a video quality just like you see here
Japan version has its theme song replacing Stage 1 of choice, and speaking episode title, while overseas doesn't allow them. Nothing changes for final stage since it will play the theme song.
It's like Kotetsu was in another type of "game" and decided to help out in this one. Well, all three main characters.

If you're looking for a similar game, then play warzard/red Earth. The only thing it doesn't have is co-op gameplay but it has a cool RPG system and runs on the street fighter 3 engine. The graphics on that game were mind blowing in the 90s.
This reminds me of the Konami I loved so much growing up. Never got to play this back in the day, as it never got a wide release in arcades, but have played it since, and it's a very underrated and odd gem.
If you have PC you can take back your access to it,I'm sure this game you can play on MAME emulator as you will have a better quality of video and hand coordination
Monster Maulers, known in Japan 🇯🇵 as Kyukyoku Sentai Dadandarn lit. Ultimate Squad Dadandarn is a 1993 fighting arcade games developed and published by Konami.
I like how at the end credits they show all the bad guys winning.
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance had a lot of Konami company references in it, one of them definitely being the final Dracula form taken from the final Brainy boss here!

And so the game ends, and the staff credits greet you with... short clips of the heroes getting their asses kicked by the bosses.
Well... that's... a thing.
I like this game - it's very similar to Metamoqester in some ways, but that one lacks the goofy tokusatsu overtones that this one has... it's also a bit more brutal in the difficulty department.
There is a good ending which I've seen at times, but I never figured out the condition(s) to obtain it. You can do things like break the Moai's face, destroy a nucleus inside the slime monsters, or make brainy's eye fall off (I've seen it in a single video) but it's not clear whether they figure in that or not.
This came actually a couple years before Metamoqester, so the latter may have been inspired by it.

Continued game after no more lives = They beat the bosses and even villains, and the heroes are there for the world
@@agustinuszheng588 They basically pulled an _In The Hunt_ (IREM, 1993) -- 1cc and the player character is shown to be DEAD.
Use a continue and you get the "normal" ending where everything returns to normal.

Fungus is a really creepy opponent to go against, but his theme song is pretty catchy
Especially since they look like a guy in a rubber suit; aka the Power Rangers' monster of the week.
This is a perfect example of works who began with good intentions, but failed at the end. Like the movies Night of the Lepus and Megaforce(especially this one).
I wouldn’t mind playing this arcade game.
