It's kinda weird playing a linear Castlevania game without breakable candles in the levels (That's like having Super Mario Bros without Coin Blocks). Especially when in the first game you could upgrade the whip to maximum range in matter of seconds. The sprites here are so big, that a double sized whip would already take half the screen horizontally, which might be a reason why they had to nerf the system by adding Chain and the Sword.

There are 3 versions. Here’s what I call: E Version(Easy version) K Version(OK version, or intermediate version) M Version(Master Version, or Hard version.)
This game is fucking insane. How the actual fuck were human beings supposed to play this in the arcade? It makes Nes Castlevania look like a Kirby game in terms of difficulty.
From the looks of the third stage boss, I see someone at Konami saw the movie "Young Sherlock Holmes" and got impressed by the knight scene. One of the first CGI scenes in a non animated movie, directed by John Lasseter (the scene, not the whole movie).
Simon Belmont: hair's looking at you, Medusa. Medusa: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Simon Belmont: say goodnight, ugly!
And all the Belmont’s bloodline will have to hear of the literal and figurative CRAP Simon had to go through: “Simon Belmont once beat Dracula while squat walking in agony due to the Taco Shizz”
Game feels more like it takes place after the events of Castlevania 2, rather than be an adaptation of the original game. Why? Because this game was released after Castlevania 2, which the good ending signifies that Dracula rose from the dead, even after Simon defeated him. This is before Castlevania 3 introduces us a timeline of sorts.
Got the PS2 Japanese version via one of the Oretachi Geason packs, yes, it is quite a hard game, maybe too hard for it's own good. Especially one of the US revisions, either K, or M, that is not recommended to play due to much harder it is that the other US revision, or the Japanese revisions.
M is absolutely absurd. I've learned to not play it if I dont want to throw controllers. The difficulty level imo absolutely ruins it. This is the K version. It's still hard, but it's much more manageable.
My thinking the M in the M revision has to stand for masochistic, because it takes that kind of person to want to do that particular version due to it's insane version. There's 2 Japanese revisions as well, not sure if they share the same difficulty level or not, and the one I have on PS2, not sure which Japanese revision it's based off of, but I am not good at it at all. It's still nice to have the game though, even if it's a massive kick to the balls.

This came out after the NES game. I'm not sure why it was changed to Haunted Castle since the Castlevania brand had already been established outside Japan.

This is much harder than the NES versions
@@crunchsixfoe the game itself perhaps I'm just talking final boss
In one of the emulators I used, Dracula was just being an ass and was always spawning on me. Used a different emulator and he didn't do that.
If you still haven't best dracula but want to, there is a channel called U Can Beat Video Games. He shows you the best way to beat NES games, like castlevania 1 & 2.
Anyone who's played HC will tell you Castlevania IV is a remake of it instead of being a Castlevania 1 remake.
Why did they change the title or was it always haunted castle and they just changed it to castlvania when we got the new port?
This came out after the NES game. In Japan there are 5 games that are all called Akumajou Dracula and are meant to be different versions of the same game: the original Famicom/NES version, the MSX2 game released in Europe as Vampire Killer, Haunted Castle (this game), the Sharp X68000 game later released as Castlevania Chronicles, and Super Castlevania IV. I'm not sure why it was changed to Haunted Castle since the Castlevania brand had already been established outside Japan.
should reuse that mirror part with the harpies in one of the new ones. creepy.
