- Hedge trimming A Privet hedge that we cut last year, getting quite a hard prune as it is slightly overgrown and unfortunately got left too long before trimming.
Using a Makita dun500wz 18v Battery hedge trimmer and seeing if it is up to the task, instead of my usual hedge trimmer.

Nice. Having been working for myself for 6 years now, I have exclusively used the RYOBI One Plus platform for all my gardening and DIY work at customers. My hedge cutting gear gets a lot of use, and I'm very happy with the platform for performance and especially the price. I've never used petrol tools, The bonus of any battery platform is less noise, not buying fuel, and of course using the same battery to power multiple tools. And as you are demonstrating. The same results can be achieved with battery tools.

The battery powered hedge cutters are less fatiguing, and more environmentally friendly, and noise friendly, but on the downside quite a bit slower in performance, and definitely can add more time to any hedge cutting job , we use the stihl rigid,also extendable type ,definitely a blessing with good sharp blades ,and amazed how long the battery lasts , definitely battery powered tools are always being improved, and sure to take the place of petrol powered 👍

OMG! I just bought that exact hedge trimmer! While I haven't tried using it yet (we've been in a heat wave...), it's good to see that it works this well! (This is for my own, personal, use -- so it doesn't bother me that it cuts slower than a gas trimmer. Besides, I'm in my late 60s now, and desperately need lighter tools for my garden!) Thanks for the demo!

@@strangerElmax I've only used the Stihl, I think echo, husky, ego are all similar. Maybe try a find a supplier local to compare them. But I'd take them over petrol for maintenance and trims any day of the week

Excellent demo of the battery powered clipper. ( I want one now) If you don't mind the cost, get a "Little Giant" ladder. They are heavier but you move it less since you climb both sides, with the adjustments and leg leveler you can set up on a steep hill and pretty much stand on the top without feeling wobbly. Your video reminds me of working the top of a similar hedge and running into a Yellowjacket nest followed by a speed decent and run to the truck!
Cheers, I do have a similar adjustable type ladder but its not a large one, Never felt the need to get the proper big version, they look good though. Yeh run away from yellow jacket nests 😅👍

Nice job there and if I was ever to go all battery for my garden stuff it would be Makita. But as now and as long as I can get parts I'm going to stick to using 2 stroke 🤔🙂👍
Thanks mate, i am still very much a petrol user at heart and not stopping anytime soon. Im not sold on the battery gear yet and wouldnt want to rely on it solely. 👍

Ich nutze ausschließlich eine Stabheckenschere von Husqvarna mit 36(?)-V Akku. Ich liebe sie. Und (vielleicht nach der Motorsäge) hat die Heckenschere den geringsten Leistungsbedarf beziehungsweise die längste Laufzeit mit einem Akku.
Hecken schneiden ist dankbare Arbeit. Ich mach es einfach gerne. :)

I used one of these on a beech not the same model but it didn't last long broke before I got the hedge cut I think maybe they're alright on privet but they are nice and light
Yeh they are alright for smaller bits, wouldn't want to cut any really thick hedges with them though.

I have the milwaukee it's definitely nice to use instead of gas

g le debrousailleur deux fois 18 volt de chez makita très content de se que je fait avec pour se taille haie 18 VOLT COMBIEN de temps de charge avec une seule batterie merci ou je vais surement acheter celui en multi fonction avec le quelle on peut adapter divers perche dessus
Privet explodes away if you let it ,you seem to be giving a tougher winter proof cut a cut off cone narrower at the top to shead snow,just one years out growth.
Yeh privet is fast growing, this was about 8 months growth i think, and it will get cut again this year in a few months time. 👍
Need to feed those young ones in the middle of those ancient hedge some Miracle Gro and get them up to snuff.
Yes they have had a feed recently but not doing too well, hopefully they take off soon, they havent been in very long 👍
How are you finding the Makita trimmers would you say is for professional use. Is your the 18v? Would you say the bigger batteries would give more power as suggested. Keep up the good work 👍
They are not too bad for what they are, i wouldnt call them pro gear though, yeh this is the 18v one and i was using a 5ah battery. Will be doing a review soon hopefully 👍

Hello there I have a question how many times did you change the battery for this job because I’m planning to buy that electric trimmer
Started with a full 5ah battery and when i finished there was around half the battery life left, as shown towards the end.
How do you keep it straight? Specially at the top? Experience?
Yeh i guess so. I dont always get them perfect but there or there abouts is good enough in most cases 👍

@@RJLgardens That's great thanks. So I have been using the Husqvarna 520i battery long reach which I love but it's impossible to find any in stock. I think the Makita that you have runs at the same blade speed as the Husqvarna so perhaps I will try that now!
ive had a few of these now, the head after a while slips out of locked position, have sent it back to makita a number of times and they don't know how to fix it. after 3 times being sent back still with the fault they sent me a replacement unit and after 8 months thats doing the exact same thing so its clearly a manufacturing fault. other than that they are good but the fault makes them almost useless as 1 slip and you've taken the top out of a hedge or a bush you didn't want to
Yeh that is a big problem with it, i tightened up the head bolt on my ones to hopefully make them last longer. I am happy if i get 2 years out of it 😂. Shame though, got a review coming out this weekend 👍
@@RJLgardens I sent an email to Makita last week and they said the unit I sent in is being used without problem on their grounds but I just can't believe that at all. It did it with me within a minute of getting out of the box after "repair" even when holding the red collar up towards the blades. Happens all the time especially with twiggy stuff. Not so much with fresh growth but it still does it. Drives me mad, have taken a few chunks out of some customers shrubs and stuff...it's very embarrassing really.

@@RJLgardens on a standard Makita 18v battery... I love my Makita eh7500w 2stroke so fast compared to ego 2 speed. HS81R beast. Got a Dolmar 110 chainsaw still cuts logs. So light magnesium alloy
Grrrr .... prune those privets to the ground, down 15 feet to their roots ... invasive damnable plants here in U.S. - espeically when birds eat their berries and poop them all over at the fence lines. Would rather grow seabuckthron instead - at least the berries are highly nutritious - and make an excellent thorny hedge !
