The CHA Hybrid is an ideal and simple to use antenna. I have made thousands of contacts with it over the years and find it easy to deploy with great results. Try this in the attic but i love the waterproof box idea
Great video. I look forward to more of these videos -especially the attic antennas. I’m not in an HOA, I’m in the suburbs, in a 100 year old home with lots of power and cable lines all around me outside. So it’s not necessarily safe to hang a wire. A different situation than yours. But your videos give me ideas that I can maybe adapt for my situation. Thank you for sharing.
I have really enjoyed the first video. Im hooked on your series. I also live in an HOA 20 Miles North of Tampa. W7CID. Im a disabled Vet with a General Ticket. I have forgotten so much due to life for me being pretty busy and have been out of the hobby for a good while. I just bought a New Yaesu FT-710 and am looking forward to getting back into this awesome hobby. This idea here could work for me as i have some woods proximally 80 Feet behind my home. Looking forward to QSO with ya as soon as i get set up. 73's
Welcome back to the ham way of life; I'm sure it will come back to you quickly. I do hope you find my videos will help you get creative in your HOA. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
Great job! I've been thinking about backup plans in case the terminated butterfly dipole I am building in my garage attic doesn't hear well. Thanks for the ideas! 73
Very clever. I might be able to adapt to some version of this brilliant design. The only problem that I might have is that this constitutes “installation” of an antenna versus my alibi of temporary recreational use component.
Thanks for watching and commenting suttonmatther; I'm always trying new things. Have something in the works now that might replace this; to get a little more stealth.
Just a thought... use a light (in color) gray wire of 73 feet to replace the provided wire. It double disappears. Like the video. Easy to understand even without talking.
I live in an HOA as well and have the IMPAS 2.0 500 watt model, I find that the 73' wire has a lower noise floor then the vertical. I leave my wire up in the tree but I put two screws in the trunk of the tree about a foot or two apart and wind the wire on those and just leave it. Thinking about putting some Vaseline on the eyelet with winter coming up (I get snow where I live) I just recently purchased Chameleon's 9:1, I know you like the company and was wondering if you were going to do a review on this product?
Have a box full of Chameleon products now waiting for review. Can you be more specific about the product? What is the Chameleon name for the antenna you are referring to?
First of all...your videos are AWESOME. Thank you so much and keep them coming. Quick question...when using the CHA Hybrid Micro matching unit, why did you still have to use an un-un? In your stealth ridge vent antenna video I don't see one used there. Thanks!
Appreciate the positive feedback Brent. Because I have a short coax run, and I was not using radials, I added it to reduce common mode current coming back into the shack. I never tried to run without out it; just assumed it would help so that's why I installed it.
I see that you do not have any counterpoises and with that unun where it is prevents any coax counterpoise. Do you think that by adding some wire counterpoise that you may get a boost in performance? Nice install.
Thanks for watching Chuck. I have installed counterpoise wires on it previously to the stud that protrudes through the bottom of the plastic cover. It did not seem to have any impact on performance that I could notice. Since it was easier to not have to fiddle with them and it is working fine, I decided to let it go. I would still prefer to have them, but it has become a choice for convenience with no negative impact I am aware of.
It's all experimental at this point. I have done both a Z and a W configuration. Try not to have the wire return on itself. BE SURE TO USE OFFSETS TO KEEP THE WIRE OFF OF WOOD SURFACES. I WOULD NEVER RUN MORE THAN 100 WATTS, AND ONLY SSB VOICE. YOU DON'T WANT YOUR ANTENNA HEATING UP INSIDE THE HOUSE ATTIC CREATING A HAZARD.
Thanks Will. I just rebuilt the shack (a few items left to complete) a few weeks ago, and will have a video series showing all the steps. The enclosure is from DX Engineering: www.dxengineering.com/parts/DXE-UE-2P
Really like your videos, and this one is great! I have a Cha Micro and you certainly have my wheels turning now. Can I ask what gauge is the wire , and to what did you attach the end wire too? Thanks again for posting...
nice.. just found this channel question though.. your HOA is supposed to allow you "reasonable accommodations" though... not saying that having a 70 foot tower in the back yard is not reasonable :P im surprised they don't like a bass fishing pole in the back yard. but knowing that particular area well (i have a weather system at the golf course :D) you have done VERY well if no-one has noticed it :D
Thanks Daytona for stopping by and viewing. There are certainly a number of approaches one can take on the subject. I've chosen the path that avoids attorneys. With a little creativity, I've been able to avoid detection and nasty grams from the HOA Board of Directors.

Spot on with the CHA Hybrid....love it. The versatility is exceptional.
You are absolutely killing it bro! This series should be required viewing for every ham in an HOA 👍
Thanks Ape; always appreciate your views and comments. Got some good stuff coming.

Appreciate the feedback Mike. Hope to share more thoughts to generate more ideas -- I think that is the greatest benefit to this RUclips thing.

Great ideas!! I really like how you made your installation. Stealth and well engineered Bob. Best 73s Dan K1YPB - On the air since 1962.
1962...the year I was born. I can't wait to have your years of experience and knowledge. Thanks for coming by for a look.
I was looking for something like this for my installation - thanks! Bob K4WTA
Glad this was helpful and thanks for the generosity....
I use the CHA MPAS lite and I also have the CHA EMCOMM III PORTABLE. Those are my go to antennas in my pack.
Psyops, good choices. They cost a few bucks, but quality and performance are superior.
@@HOAHamRadio yep worth it. However I’m having issues hooking my 705 wireless to my labtop. Grrrr

great install, love the whole setup with the switches inside

Gray wire, sounds like a dood idea Lew.
Thanks for the details and nice job. Where did you buy the lightning arrestor utility box?
Thanks for stopping by for a look. The box is from DX Engineering: www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-ue-2p
What kind of screws are you using to go into the stucco?
1/4" Tapcon's from Home Depot. Pre-drill with their bit, then drive em in.

Fantastic series! Do you get into lightning protection?
I steer clear of details on that subject on my channel.... Lightning Subject Matters Experts should be consulted.

I have a smallish attic in my 3 story hoa. If I was to put my cha micro up there what would be the best way to configure the wire? What kind of shape?

Hi Bob. Where did you get that enclosure that passes all you’re feed lines into your house? Your antenna switches looked amazing.

F M, its the Chameleon Antenna 16 gauge Copper Clad KEVLAR Wire. I don't mention where the other end is hanging as it can be a bit controversial.

Another very informative video! I am “borrowing“ your design concepts shamelessly!

That is exactly the plan, please do! Thanks for the feedback.
Sir...do we know the efficiency of either the hybrid mini or micro?
I do not.
Unun on efhw? Tell me more
Great setup
Thanks Wire Works, love what you do on your channel!
@@HOAHamRadio Thanks
Could you link to a site where you got that Unun?
If you Google LDG RU-1:1 Unun you will find a number of retailers. I purchased mine from GigaParts. Thanks for watching.
Thank you.
My pleasure Ham Radio Tectonics, more to come.
Perfect Antenna end Fed Wire,
Agreed ManuelPinner; this is my favorite antenna.
This antenna requires a tuner, random not a half-wave?
Yes, "random", not meant to be resonant on any band, but workable with a tuner on many.
Hey Bob, this video is showing again on my feed. I watched it a week ago or so. Just thought would let you know, in case this is a glitch.
Thanks for letting me know Levy, appreciate it.
Good stuff - I always have problems with indoor antennas and this is pretty sneaky
More "sneaky" to come TO.
@@HOAHamRadio there better, that's what I signed up for!
Tried one of these at POTA, deaf as a doornail
Thanks for watching and sharing. Sorry to hear your experience was not as positive as mine. Did you return or sell yours?
@@HOAHamRadio returned. Went with mag loop instead.
Bib - do you’ve a CHA LEFS 8010? If not send me an email!

Very goo hf idea. Bill KZ3DX
Thanks. I just changed this antenna out for a different but similar set up: ruclips.net/video/9TIkoeSqI8E/видео.html
