Thankfully that was fairly simple. I was getting ready for a trip a while ago. Before the trip I drained my oil catch can, and when I hooked it back up I put the lines on backwards somehow, probably because it was a little to dark. And that caused my car to smoke like crazy.
Way to go Ryan!!! Really can't beat someone that knows how and why an engine behaves a certain way. All the best in getting your car painted right with respect for your time. God bless!
I don't understand why you wouldn't fix the low oil pressure error first before anything order the sensor make sure that's what's wrong hook manual gauge up to it. Make sure you have oil pressure and go from there. I'm not understanding why you're ignoring that code.
@@paulhoffman6947 not ignoring it. A lot of messages behind the scenes about it, and these cars turn off if actual oil pressure is reading too low. Faulty switch just threw a code.
When he was reading the codes and stuff I believe they were getting the correct reading based on the voltage output unless I'm understanding things incorrectly for the sensor.
@@smhaceofspades2813 yeah so there were two values he was looking at to verify oil pressure was fine: there's a value for the actual pressure readout and there's the indicator from a switch. The switch was "0", but the pressure value was reading fine. Hence it's just a faulty switch.

I kinda brought that idea up last video, but I figured he wouldn't dare risk it. Imagine the lawsuit that would bring his shop since he'd know the car had only been there the entire time.
First thing I would have done (I was actually shouting at the screen the second I saw that smoke) is loosened the oil filler cap and sat it loosely on the fikler neck, if it dances a little bit cool if it bounces off and goes crazy too much crankcase pressure.....👍👌👍
While the exhausts and the inlet pipes are off, you could run the engine to check if you get the white smoke from just one side or both, as this will help with diagnosing the issue.
Was watching and thinking the same thing. It is also a great opportunity to check the Cats to make sure they are not blocked. There are potentially several issues that can arise because of Cat blockages including excessive wear to the turbos, poor performance, lower boost pressure and stalling/lower idle to name a few.
@@4l04ever yeah Ryan did that, I know the video is long so it's natural to skip a bit, but there is a section where he says with one side off we can see if it smokes again or not.
😅 Hate it when the problem solves while it shouldn't. Direct smoke is directly burning oil in the combustion. Exhaust still cold so can't be that one. Looks like after a while still some oil collects somewhere but also could be some remaining oil in the intake /intercooler. Drive it or flush it will sort that out. Excessive crank pressure can cause the turbo seals to leak. Doesn't have to damage them. Leaks are on the intake mostly I think because the back pressure on the seals is lower than the exhaust. Oil flows right into the compressor side into the Intercooler and intake. Hopefully you already solved it some how.
INJ you need to take the intake pipes off the turbo's and check for impeller play and see if there is any oil in the intakes also the mclaren is notorious for the baffle in the plastic intake tubes to go brittle and break sending debri into the turbo's check that as well cheers from down under

This is great news about the engine, I thought for sure it was cooked and getting the paint done first was a bad call. Although you didn't end up getting the paint done first, so.... And when you taking the plugs off the airbag when doing the clockspring, I was waiting for that explosion meme you always use. It was like Jason's version of The Bad Place. Waiting for the bass drop at a Skrillex concert, and it never comes....
Fingers are crossed but for me I definitely would pull motor and check sleeves while fixing the seal before I ever thought of a tune. Having to much oil in their is just as bad as not having enough. Doesn't take much to damage especially one with those sleeves.
Your mechanic guy said that there is positive pressure in the cranc case caused by the pistons. That is not the as you have the same amount of pistons moving upwards as the ones moving downwards at any point in time. What the cranc case ventilation does is to apply vacuum to the cranc case to suck out any fumes and combust them completely within the cylinders. Positive cranc case pressure is prevented by check valves called PCV valves and that is necessary on turbo engines as you dont have vacuum available at all times. If that PCV is faulty then you build up cranc case pressure under boost which would case smoking like yours. So he was right when he said that if the PCVs get stuck in open position it would cause smoking like that, but not for the reason he mentioned. So you don't have a "positive cranc case ventilation" system, you have a cranc case ventilation system that only works with vacuum so you have Positive Cranc case Valves to prevent positive cranc case pressure while venting into the intake (as that would introduce oil into the intake). The cranc case ventilation system is an emission thing and your motor don't really want it, but the government do. Race cars usually don't apply vacuum to the cranc case but have a different system that vent fumes to the atmosphere instead via a catch tank and some type of filter. But that is not allowed on a street production car.
Well looking more positive and less smokey now. Too much oil can do that so like you said maybe it will clear up as it runs and burns off the residual oil leaking into the system from being too full. I'd definitely put an analog oil pressure quage on it then replace the switch if everything is good. The codes may take care of themselves as you get everything else hooked up and the switch dealt with. Computers can get pretty wonky if they don't see the values they expect. My old ex 95 Neon coupe I used to drive frew all kinds of weird codes when the crank position sensor started cutting out when it got hot. Once I replaced it with a good one all the codes cleared out and it ran fine again hot or cold. That was a very early OBD2 car, yours is so much more complex so much more picky. I think you're on the down slope now and so close to sorting it 👍😎
