In 1986, Mattel broke into the Indian toy market by partnering with Indian marketing company Blow Plast, Inc to form Leo Mattel. This brought many of Mattel's popular lines to a new part of the world, including Masters of the Universe - which in turn created some really interesting variants of the figures we're used to here in the US.

9:16. Quite the contrary, in fact. Here, in India, a collectors lobby of non-fans found out these were fetching a decent amount of cash overseas, so in 2002/03, these few dudes went all over, hoarded these up for a few years and sold them. The only Leo Toys you'll find in India being traded around are broken and without armor. I can assure you that there's no mint condition ones, except with those select few people I mentioned earlier.

In India these figures were a smash hit. I remember my dad bought me a He-man toy which had 'made in Malaysia' on the pack. A year later, he bought me another He-man which had 'made in India' on the pack. The Indian version had a lighter skin tone and its head was made of the same material as the rest of its body while the Malaysian version had a head made of hard rubber and had tanned skin.

    Hi,
I am from India and I remeber playing and collecting most of them from around 1986 to 1994...They were a real craze here among children of my age... fuelled mostly by the animation show which played here around that time. It is really a part of nostalgia for our generation in India and thank you again for reminding me of those good old times with this video.

Hi, Dan. I'm from India. Thanks for covering this, really great job! I remember playing with these toys in the early 90s. I had all of these models you mentioned, even Cringer, Panther and Man at arms. I'm sure there were more which I'm forgetting. I donated them to my younger cousin eventually, had I known they would become so valuable over time I would have held on to them lol. I was going through various videos of American version of these toys and I always thought there's something different about these toys but always attributed that to my childhood memory being fuzzy. Coming across your video confirmed that my memories were correct and I had no idea that Indian version of these toys were different. Damn, I wish I had held on to them, could have been rich lol.

I heard Faker was created by accident, a bunch of He Mans fell into the blue dye used for Skeletor, but I haven't found anything online to confirm that. He was the hardest character to find, I spent the better part of 2.5 years searching, then they released the 2nd edition.
