You know, since Herman is in his house, he is probably not wearing any pants! Fancy dress party or no! The biscuit turned out really nice. Love it! Happy Birthday to Mr Gem! And I have been stung by a jelly fish when I was a kid but it wasn't the kind that really hurt. There are multiple varieties. Either I am not remembering it or it was pretty mild. Sorta like an mild electric shock. I was the kid that touched everything. And took everything apart! Consequently, I have been bitten, strung, pinched, and shocked by quite a few things. No regrets!
I like the time of year I call 'Wintumn' (Basically the run up to Christmas where it's still quite mild but drops cold at night), the leaves are all down and it's time to get the fire going, shut the blinds at night and cosy up with tea, blankets, books and dogs. Yes!
I have this book. It's gorgeous. I also have the full set of Derwent intense but I have never used them. I'm afraid too. I am going to try and follow along with you!
You have an undeniable attractiveness that blooms in your videos! I enjoy watching you work and create your art. I often think that ink is dye based and not archival, but does that even matter in a book that will be closed most of the time? I even looked up the lightfast ratings for the Inktense pencils and most of them have good or better ratings! Not a dye product despite the name. I know that you can frame art and use UV glass to protect your image and more people should, however I find even the most particular person will cut corners on framing and quality of glass! Well I am sure that if you frame your art you will do it right! I am looking forward to watching this series and I might even try to keep the long winded comments to a minimum. You pass on our best wishes to Mr. Gem and have a lovely day.
Thank you Pete! It's the reason why I use such pencils. I tend to save the Big Boys (e.g Luminance pencils) for loose art, but when in a book I'm happy to use those with lower lightfast ratings. Also, my Crayola-coloured pages are holding up fine after 5 years. Have a great day too!
This is one of my most favorite books I own. And the Inktense are wonderful! When I first began coloring I was watching alot of Colour and Chat with Sammie and she definitely enabled me to buy my Inktense but I love them. I use mine alot. They are pricey but it takes so little pigment to get vibrant colors that they last for ages. So it kind of levels out the price for me.
Oh my goodness! Do please share the yet-to-be-names leaf cruncher with googly eyes! This book is lovely! Thanks for sharing it with us. And as always, it’s such fun to hear your coloring process and coloring selection!
New subbie here...all due to you using the inktense pencils and your lovely accent! I bought a set of these pencils a few months ago and I've loved using them, however I need some instruction. So thank you, luv! I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos.😊
Both of my brothers are left handed. I think left handed people are very cool. I ended up learning how to write with my left hand and now i color with my left hand. I love it.
Interesting. Do you favour your left over your right now? They say there are more right- than left-handed people in the world. I once worked as a chef in a kitchen where there were eight of us, and seven out the eight were lefties. I thought that was quite cool!
@@TheColourCave I have tendonitis flareups every now and again so being able to use my left works out just fine. On another note one of my brothers had two sons and they were left handed as well. Sometimes I use my left hand over my right in cases of opening up lids, tops on containers. Because of the tendonitis I've lost some strength in my right hand. I don't mind. I loved Herman the crab. He was beautiful. Can't wait to how Geraldine turns out.
@@pattytolliver2651 maybe I should learn to use my right? Very clever and determined of you to discipline yourself to use your left hand - that must have been hard to learn! Stay tuned for Geraldine!
This book has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now and I’ve not plucked up courage to colour in it!! I have wanted to use the intense in it but feel I need a few pictures under my belt before I give it a go xxx💕
Gem it looks really nice. I like your idea to lightly color the teacup. I was thinking of what to color the whole thing and couldn't come up with a color. Very smart you are. :-) For me the book is daunting but that's because I don't have enough experience yet. I've never stung by a jelly fish, but I have seen quite a few. I think Mr. Herman's shell is fine, his pajamas look proper for a Hermit Crab, especially since he wears them 24/7. LOL Happy belated birthday to Mr. Jim. Thank you for sharing ♥♥♥
I could listen to you talk all day…just love your accent, something we don’t have the pleasure to hear too often here in Florida….. Inktense pencils scare me a bit. i have a few but am very often not using them because of that…..
Hi Mickey, I have quite a few videos where I use Inktense pencils. Don't be scared! Peta Hewitt did an excellent tutorial video a while back on them too - I highly recommend it: ruclips.net/video/74ThSBIWNZ0/видео.html
Lovely! Absolutely one of my favorite books. Using the Inktense pencils can be stressfull sometimes. I'm still learning how to use them, but you make it look so easy! Happy Birthday to Mr. Gem! Hope that he enjoyed the night out. Googley eyes make things fun. Been stung by small, red jellies... luckily I was not hurt badly. I was swimming through a bunch of them & it felt like millions of little pin pricks. The stringers left markers, but it mostly itched. Considering how I grew up on the coast of the Atlantic, I was surprised that it didn't hurt more. I was scared to death of them as a child because of the screaming from others that were stung. Maybe younger flesh is much more sensitive? I do remember taking baking soda with me and my children to the beach. It's supposed to take away the sting. Been pinched by both lobster and crabs. Very much OUCH! Husband was a lobsterman and I would go with him. Worse pain was having my toe pinched by a loose crab...never went on the boat barefoot again.
What a beautiful book! I'm just starting to work in Celtic Mandala coloring book! I'm seriously considering inktense pencils! They are gorgeous! Thank you Gem💖
Just love this xXx Herman is a bobby dazzler in his Posh PJ's :) Love Derwent Inktense, you can work pretty fast with this medium and get wonderful results. Spot on rich tea colour well done Gem, just how I remember them ;) Thanks, I had so much fun watching this video, can't wait to see the googly eyed garden tool :D Ho yes... I did stand on a fish with prongs/stickle's on it's back, that hurt like heck, I remember being about 6 years old and crying like a 6 month old with the pain of it all, till through my crying I heard my Dad saying 'if you're quiet and let the nice Mr. Doctor help your poorly foot there is a big ice cream in it for you' not a peep was heard after that ;P
Honestly can't wait for my Derwent Inktense Colour Pencils. You make it look so easy-to-use and the colors look amazing. Great coloring selection as well. I know it will come out awesome as always.
OMG! Peta was the one who taught me coloring when I first started, got me into inktense pencils (with her decision to do the entire Magical City with only inktense), and I do the use water brush on the back of my hand too! She is a wonderful teacher, I still go back and watch her videos if I want to learn anything new or color along with her :D
I still go back and watch Peta's videos from time to time when I need a refresher, I think she's amazing, and I like listening to her, she's very chilled out.
Ok now I was jumping up and down screaming YES!!😂 Thank you so very much for bringing out your inktense. Watching you use them has me convinced this is what I have been longing for in color and intensity. Next month will be a purchase of the 24 set. Happy belated birthday Mr Gem🍻👑🎇🎊🎈
Love this book I saw and had to buy it, my 6 now 7yr old is my excuse to add to my uncolored yet set. Lol I tend to take a quick pic on my ipad and do a color comp in procreate if I'm gonna use a watercolor or inktense.
I use to be a bartender for a while and I got really good at darts. Haven't played in years. Happy birthday Mr. Gem ! 🎂 🍺 😁 You know I have wanted to buy this book and the inktense. You're such a facilitator! 🤣 Dammit !!! I have to buy them now. Per usual I totally enjoyed myself 😍 We have to start working on your next 5k Peeps at a gallop ! 😁❣🎯 I know alot of Peeps !
Btw...when I was in Maui I was a crab spotter on the beach, at night of course, intoxicated of course. The other people in the group were wranglers. I had so much fun with that. But I did get nipped on me toes ! Haven't thought about that in a while now. 😎
This looka really cool :) I think I might have to look into that book, since I could use my watercolours in this one, might be worth trying it out :) *gives internet cuddles to Gem*

Jellyfish stings hurts like, so bad! But I like Herman even more now knowing he steals biscuits while being pant-less!
Wow this book is really gorgeous!! I would be' a bit intimidated to colour it just because... how can you improve that?, but you did it!! great job really the biscuit turned out amazing in the end, and I love the colour you choose for the crab shell!! Can't wait to see the other page! Xxx
If you do want to try actual brushes look for a multimedia synthetic brush.. they hold way less water. Pro Arte masterstroke or Princeton Velvetouch perhaps.. or even the cheaper taklon craft brushes (such as Royal Langnickel) provided they hold a good point. I recently discovered Caran D'Ache makes a felt tip waterbrush that I think will be perfect for the inktense. I've not seen anyone talk about it though. The only reviews out there are from really confused watercolor artists that all seem to not be able to figure out what it's for since it doesn't pick up paint like they are used to.
Anyone who has ever dunked a rich tea biscuit knows that Herman didnt get that bit of missing biscuit, it's at the bottom of the tea cup 😂 I also think that he could totally rock PJ's anywhere lol I never got nipped by the crabs at the beach, my cousin always caught them in his shoe! 😂
Rich Tea are the worst ever for dunking lol I think Herman should look for a good solid hobnob instead haha! I love my inks and I've always wanted these pencils, sadly they are well out of my price range, prob take me 5 years to save up for the full set! What an amazing book though, I've give you a thumbs up but I do have to say I find the internet cuddle part very cringe, sorry lol :)
I’d vote for a hob nob any day! They are expensive pencils indeed. I don’t know if it’s helpful, but you can buy the Inktense pencils in singles, so even buying the set of 12 as a starting point (I’ve seen them on offer as cheap as £9 on an odd occasion), you could add to the collection over time, selecting colours you would tend to use most first. Thought it would be worth mentioning. Cringe away, and don’t apologise! 😁 (and thank you for the thumbs up!)

Iv got this book and your right I’m two scared to start on it because it’s so beautiful ,but as I have the inktense pencils as well I might join you in doing this picture thanks for the inspiration Gem
I think less is definitely more, especially with the more detailed drawings. People get intimidated by them, but if you look at it more of the work is done for you. Unless you want to (because there is no wrong way to art) there is no need to cover every surface, add a ton of detail, etc. Simple washes can make the illustrations beautiful. A little metallic or sparkle here or there. It seems like there is a trend in adult coloring to basically repaint/draw the entire page with layers and layers of opaque mediums, until the original drawing isn't even visible anymore (and at that point why even bother working in the book, just paint outright). Certainly an option but entirely unnecessary, and I feel like it's really detrimental to new artists because they feel like they have to be able to do that to do "good" pages. Especially with water media vignettes are lovely, and with this book in particular I would certainly reserve the open space.. a hint of background perhaps for depth. Take a look at actual color illustrations of the past for inspiration... most were very limited palettes and simple blocks of color allowing the drawing to shine.
That’s Gem I will do.x
