You have a great eye for proportion and the proof is in watching you or someone who is very good work. Because you make something that is demanding look very easy and the work moves along quickly. Loved the design and the inlays look as you say quite lovely! My favorite thing to turn is boxes and have added button inlays to a few of mine but never a ring, that is going to change soon. Well explained and executed! I have like 60 maple cylinders that I can use for this project. I will use walnut as a contrasting wood, should look beautiful dark in lighter wood. But first I have to make the painted bowl with the wavy tape technique you demonstrated a bit back. Been running around the west country here lately and I have been away from my lathe. I’m getting the shakes from withdrawals lol. I have been out of pocket, are the Tomisic signature scrapers available yet or soon? I need some! Again I have learned something valuable from you! I feel my box making skills are the closest to yours but I still am in awe when I watch you work! Mesmerizing to say the least! Your ability to describe what you are demonstrating is second to none in my opinion. You talk like I think about things, just a bit slower than you. I will attribute that to old age lol! Thanks, take care! Scott PS: one of the only things I just can’t seem to get right is back hollowing! You make it look so easy, but it is not! There is something unnerving about sticking the upper side of the spindle gouge into the wood at that angle and entry point that screams catch to me! I just can’t picture the slicing cutting action in my head and it makes me second guess myself but you and Richard and others have it mastered and again it is impressive! I will keep trying though.

      Thank you Scott very much, my scraper is not yet ready, its in final stretch of prototype and hopefully within month two I'll have first preorder sale.
      I just wanna do this right so I'm taking the time😀.
      I have video specificly on back hollow and it might help, few months old video.
      Also try position the gouge without lathe running and spin by hand.... You should be able to get shavings 😀

  • @kennethmiller1245
    @kennethmiller1245 3 месяца назад +1

    I am a slow learner, but do you set your tool rest height so your gouge lays flat on the angle of the rest? Your gouge seems usually about 45 degrees to the work piece. Thanks for another great video! Often new turners on Facebook ask where to go for instructions. I always send them to you and Richard.

    Great video- I’m inspired!
    A tip for using super glue and saving your fingers from getting stuck- Try using barrier hand cream. I am a retired nurse and we used this in the hospitals to save the skin on our hands from cracking from frequent hand washing- also for patient skin to prevent breakdown from moisture. I keep a bottle of barrier lotion on hand to save my hands when using finishes/glues and I use it while gardening to help keep my nails/cuticles clean. It does contain silicone, so it is important to let it dry on your hands before touching bare wood.

    • @dianeewoldt3035
      @dianeewoldt3035 3 месяца назад +2

      @@randyrockwell6136 Yes- or Skin barrier cream. I’m partial to a brand called “Gloves in a Bottle”. The key to using it is to wash your hands throughly first, dry well and then apply a small amount (pea size) and let it dry so it doesn’t feel tacky. It does not wash off- even with soap and warm water. It wears off naturally as your skin defoliates.
