Using Ryobi spiral screw extractor set to help remove a broken truck antenna bolt that is stuck inside. Will the Ryobi be able to get the job done? Let us know if you have used screw extractor kits before and what your experience is in the comments section below! - Хобби
I came here by chance and it turns out my issue is on the exact year and model truck. Thank you sir.
Wow that’s crazy, hope the video helped!
@VCGConstruction I saved it. As soon as I get home from vacation I'm gonna buy this and try it on my own. Then I'm gonna buy one of them shorty antennas and hopefully never have this problem again.
I used to use these EZ outs back in the 70’s when working on fighter jets in the us navy. I literally used it thousands of times and it worked 99.9% of the time if you were patient and did it just like you showed in the video. I also found that if you used a small hammer to lightly tap the top of the EZ Out as you slowly and gently turned it with the wrench you could extract even the most difficult fasteners. Great video Vince!!
Thanks Mark!!
I replaced a broken antenna last weekend and bought two sizes of a screw extractor. This worked like clockwork! Quick and easy! Thanks for sharing!
Great job Vince! That bang on the body is just a little character and a story for the future haha. Nice to see you on an outside project as well. A little different and cool.
Well Done! I have to try and help a Church Lady out for the exact same problem with her 2010 Honda CRV. After watching you very patiently work your way up to the correct sized drill before attempting to remove the stud, I’m more confident now, I can do this. Much obliged!!! Thank you!!!
I smashed that LIKE button and subbed. I panicked when my antenna broke off and you totally calmed me down. Now I just have to put in an order for that spiral extractor set.
Great job ole buddy …… just broke mine running through a car wash ….. I’ll follow your lead!
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!
Followed all the steps...extracted broken stub easily..
I replaced with OEM antenna.
One thing I added was a dab of Marine Grade Dielectric Grease after blowing metal shavings out of the socket...figured it would keep the moisture out of the hole if I have to do this again!!!!
Great video of the screw extractor Vince. See ya on the next one.
Nice job Vince. I’ve never had much luck with screw extractors myself, but I’ll use this video as a point of reference for the next time.
Just saw the video. That was great. To the point and entertaining. Thanks.
I definitely was stoked when that worked! Congrats!
Thanks Adam!!
This dude is my hero.
Thank you, got it done! Awesome video
I just used this technique today thanks to your video. It worked perfectly. The only change I made was removing the metal shavings with a drill bit by magnetizing it so they didn't fly all over with the air.
Great video, just lost my stubby antenna, not sure what happened but it is sheared off. This video was exactly what I need. Thanks again!
Did it. Worked great!
Oh man I needed to see this.
Very nicely done Vince !!! Now you make me want to get a set of these. They're on my wish list already😁😍😀😎Congrats on being patient and using the right tool for the job. Well done my Friend. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and videos, Rodney
You da man Rodney we appreciate you!
I am guilty for using those 2 weeks ago and I used them incorrectly. Thank you for the knowledge.
As an owner myself I like how this guy meticulously drill the broken piece antenna safely until the moment he hit the hammer and slightly missed target at that moment my heart was like 😲😲 LOL. I like your work ethic and enjoy this video. Thank you ✌️
Common issue on Toyotas. Thanks for the video!
They work very well Irwin makes the best and they also sell left handed drill bits that help to loosen the broken bolt as its drilling
Thanks for your vid... I have same issue and thought I'd had to buy the whole antenna set... Gotta go buy an extractor!!
Thank you, very well done
Kool. Gonna try and get a set.Thank you.
Let us know how it works out for you
Correct! Red & Black. I used one product to get my diamond running boards for my truck to look chrome! Mothers did a great job on the candy apple blue paint job as well! 😁 sure miss my first Chevy work truck.
Great job, ryobi??? Look at that, just look at it. Vince I would have never thought ryobi. You made me think not a bad buy. Another great video, thanks.
Worked good Rob!!
awesome. Got mine. Thank you
Great video Vince
easy outs always end up causing more headache in my experience, but then again, i’ve never used them on anything other than suspension hardware. congrats on the success vince!
Thanks Brendan!!
Awesome. I have the exact problem. Mine was from an angry car wash though. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the awesome video....Going through this problem right now....lol...Love it 😋
Thank you !! I hope mine works as sweet as yours did. Great !!
KCRW Southern California is a reason to have an FM radio (although you can stream it on your smart phone). Vince, your videos are highly entertaining, love your product reviews.
Nice and easy , thanks!
Toyota really made this cheapest antenna socket threats as well antenna. I was working on this problem last week since my 2003 a Tundra fender rusted in pieces, I had removed then reinstalled used from junkyard, but antenna was not the same newly truck designed. Now I need to get a new antenna set with cable & wire install on the fender before get painted.
Thanks for video.
New subscriber here, just for this video. I have to remove the stud on our Sienna after it was broken in a drive-thru carwash. Great job...
Glad the video is helpful! 👍🏻
Great job!
Thanks MJC!! ❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing that, good guy!
Thanks Hassan we appreciate it!
That green paint on that tundra is gorgeous
Hey Vince, I subscribed to learn the 'rest of the antenna story'.
Mike in Oregon
Great video vince
And people hate on Ryobi all the time. Great job on this one Ryobi. Gotta say, the easy out sets are a hit or miss, it seems; as I haven’t found any that really work well yet. But hey, this might be my next one👍🏻
I really thought this was gonna turn in to a series of videos, but this set of bolt extractors worked for this application!!
VCG Construction Nothing wrong w/ that, & for $9.97....definitely picking some up tomorrow. Will be added to my dedicated tool box that has all sorts of extractors & such for “issues” on the job. Yeah, entire 22” toolbox cuz haven’t found a “good” one that works. Thanks again for this vid. Appreciate yours & Nick’s hard work.
Cheers ✌🏼
Great!!!!!! You are the best!!!! Greetings from Argentina
Thanks Mar Fed we appreciate it!!
Man that's nice!!👍👍
I bought that about 4 or 5 years ago... stripped the one that I need to use.. I think it was the 2nd largest one... ended up buying some Irwin brand extractors and they worked flawlessly
I’ll check those out Craig!!
@@VCGConstruction They're the best... Irwin makes all that stuff for everyone... including.. Snap On, Milwaukee, and Bosch...✔
Wow it actually works. Im impressed 😃😁
I’m super impressed, I didn’t think it would!!
@@VCGConstruction haha
Nice it came out
Was listening to the video as I was doing things around the house and would peek at the video here and there to make sure I was watching a decent video with all the possible innuendos I was hearing. Funny!
But great job, I snapped mine off of an F150 and the dealership wants an arm and a leg to replace the whole things. I'll invest in the Ryobi extractor and try it myself because it just might work for me and save me a few hundred dollars. Thanks Again for the laughs.
Nice job keep it the great content Vince
Thanks Israel we appreciate it!
I listen to am/fm all the time.
From experience, those Ryobi screw extractors work great!
Those that didn’t follow the instructions seem to be the ones that say “it didn’t work for me”!
And yes Vinsanity, that rub mark you left from the hammer can buff right out lol!
Thank you have the same problem on my Toyota I’m trying your way thanks
THANK YOU !!!!!
None of the part stores in my area left-handed drill bits in stock so I gave this a try with Ryobi's extractor kit. I started with a small bit and stepped it up until I felt the hole was large enough. I tried tapping it in but was kinda worried with it being on the roof of my suv. I just put the extractor bit into my drill then ran it slowly in reverse. Came right out! A new antenna base for my suv would've cost $90+ for sure.
Thanks man
I got one of the Hart kits from Walmart I'm about to try for this exact reason! Wish me luck! 🤣
VCG working on cars? Dreams do come true! I have had very little luck with easy outs as well. I did get lucky on an exhaust stud recently and a broken bolt in a distributor.
Never had luck with brake bleeder screws though, hah! Usually just have to ghetto bleed it or drill and tap larger. Where I am, the rust sets everything so hard.
Def need to set it with a hammer. In my experience the more the better. It's snapping the easy out that really ruins your day! Glad this one worked out for you. :)
If had an easy out snap in an intake manifold back in the day! Needless to say I was “off to the junkyard “ to find a replacement!!
@@VCGConstruction Bah, it'll buff right out! 🤣
Little rubbing compound. ;)
Only listen to Hot 97. The ride or die calls always cracks me up.
Yo Joseph that’s what’s up cuz!!
Great vid Vince a little rubbing compound will buff right out lol , i heard that all my life ha ha
Yeah buddy, I know it!! 🤣🤣
Left handed drill bit to start can sometimes pull it out
Yea Vince - Ryobi to the rescue!
👏it worked !!
That crap will Buff out. Good job. Thanks, I'm one of those ole timers, lmao.
🤣🤣Kelly!! 👍🏻👍🏻
WRTI - Temple University Classical and Jazz. Gotta support the alma mater.
A little Simonides and you’re good to go. Love your videos!
I’m a mothers man Nick!! Thanks Cuz!
Great video Vince...when I’ve used similar products in the past they haven’t worked... guess I was doing it wrong ..😂
Thanks Paul, this was the first time they’ve ever worked for me!!
I'm with you Vin. I almost bought that set a few times but was scared off from a past experience where it DID NOT work. But you gave me a better feeling about giving it another shot. Thanks for the video. And man I love the Tundras. Would love to hear your thoughts on the truck.
Love the Tundra, it does exactly what I need it to do Day in and day out!!
@@VCGConstruction I've been back forth 4 times about F-250/350 or Tundra. I've owned Toyotas and they are bulletproof and are on the road forever.
Vince, you can use a hinge bit, (like you would use for a door hinge), to center the drill.
Get it done!
In some instances, a small torx bit works great as an extractor. Drill your hole, tap the torx bit in, rotate out!
Good call Coupe!!
I listen to a little radio. I pay for a streaming service for a reason though. Either way, good job with that extractor brotha.
My maan! 👏🏾
Vince... You've got to try a "Speed Out" set. Left hand drill bit on one side, flip it over and an EZ out on the other. Big box stores have them and they actually work as designed. The drill bit side isn't the greatest on harder screws but for the price, it's hard to beat.
This good video. I do like Toyota tundra. It ok if you dont need full truck but u need more then s10 or ranger.
This is a 1/2 ton full size truck!
Get one of those little rubber antennas😎😎😎
I removed my antenna and replaced it with a 6” stubby antenna two years ago, I never listen to the AM and FM any ways, I just need a short antenna for my Sirius receiver to connect to my stereo via FM.
I put a flexible stubby antenna as well, reception seems fine!!
Good job on that one Vince, looked like it worked as intended!
On a side note, and not trying to promote violence.... BUT
You don’t mess with a man’s family or his ride... that’s how fights get started. Hope the jerk that did it has them coming to them.
I hear ya cuz!! Thanks!!
I love it
Thanks we appreciate it!!
You welcome
I ended up getting just the small extractor from the auto parts store. Took a while to drill the hole into the top of the broken stud (2015 Tacoma). Eventually, as I started to back the drill bit out, the stud came about half way up the shaft. I used the extractor to get it the rest of the way. Word of warning-an after market replacement antenna will not work with the Tacoma, no matter how many adapters come with it. I've had to order a Toyota OEM mast.
Great Video. I wasn't as lucky or patient. When the stud portion of my 2012 Tundra antenna broke off, it broke at an angle making it very hard to drill a hole and keep the bit centered. Hole ended up too far to the side. I guess I have to rip my a-pillar and get a new assembly.
My idea is to cut the coax cable on the existing and new assembly and then put a typical female coax cable screw on fitting on either end of the cut coax and screw them together with a male-male threaded cable coupling. I am no Antenna engineer, so I don't know if that will reduce the reception of the antenna and I will have to wrap and tape off this coax coupling joint so it doesn't rattle in the fender well, but I really don't want to take the interior trim all apart to get the cable unplugged from the radio and the satellite antenna in the A-piler. As long as it looks right and gets some AM/FM... I really don't listen to the radio much either... stream music over blue tooth from the phone.
A.M. radio RULES!!!
Thanks for the video I’ve had this problem on a used car I bought. I really don’t want to replace everything! If ya do affiliate links I’d buy it from yours.
Do you have a video on re routing the antena base?
Mine is stuck and can’t get it out
Found this video after a bumper in the fwy slammed into the passenger side of my truck and snapped off my 6” metal antenna. I needed something else from Ryobi anyway 🤣
Enjoyed the vid. Love to see more non-Milwaukee shill videos.
The biggest thing about easy outs that people don’t seem to understand is that they are great for situations like your broken antenna or other things like that. What they aren’t great for is trying to remove a grade 8 bolt that someone cross threaded so bad that the head snapped off trying to remove it. They put a small easy out in it and break it off inside of the bolt and then you have to drill through something harder than a coffin nail plus the bolt. As an automotive tech I’ve seen it a thousand times. I’m not dicking around with stripped hardened bolts. If an easy out isn’t removing it with a small amount of force and maybe a little bit of heat then I’m drilling the whole bolt out, installing a helicoil, and shipping it. Just have to make sure you always have some good sharp drill bits handy. I’ve had great luck with Viking magnum super premium bits over the years. Stay sharp and cut through hardened bolts like butter.
I’d agree, if you snapped the head off with a wrench an easy out ain’t gonna get it done!!
Your funny, thx for the tip lol.
You best
No you!!
I agree I have bad luck with screw extractors
Horbor freight sells the same set. Also, I listen to fm radio all the time. Dave and chuck the freak in the mornings is the shit
🤣🤣👍🏻
Do you have any videos on drywall and corners and butt joints ????
Vince can fix anything 😁
I’ll always try!! 🤣🤣
Hell yea man
Have a 98 ford explorer having some trouble but want to put my aftermarket bullet antenna
I was honestly trying to buy this exact set at the orange big box yesterday, but they were all sold out. Now I know why, the Very Cool Gang must've seen this video early and went and bought 'em all🤣.
🤣🤣👍🏻
@VCG Construction I would only recommend it as a last resort. You break off one of those and good luck drilling it out. I'd also recommend using counter clockwise twist drills to drill out broken fasteners. Sometimes the drill bit is enough to get it out. But you don't wanna break off one of those screw extractors. It sucks I tell ya
All good points!!
Would something like that work if the antenna broke lower down on its bolt?
I did this and the threads were so rusted the extractor bit broke lol now to replace the entire cable!
I don't know why a lot of people say that they don't like them that extractors don't work it don't have good luck with him ECT. They have always worked flawlessly for me so much so in fact that 1 is always in my pocket. There are ascertain group driver bits that are always in my right hand pants pocket that is because they are driver bits that I use all day long everyday and it just so happens that one of those bits happens to be an Irwin extractor bit.
Been using these for years now. These aren't a new product. This set has saved my ass so many times. I've broke a few because of rusted bolts so it would be nice if they made a hardened steel set.
