Frugal Ways With Sealing Wax!

  • Sealing wax is an elegant way to add a touch of class to any papercraft project. Here are some ways to get more with less! *Caution, this product involves working with heat and is not recommended for children. Proceed at your own risk.
I like the cheap pellet assortments on amazon: amzn.to/3BqAfCj *this is the set I used in the video. It comes with a metal spoon that you can set on your mug warmer, but if you need more colors ready, use old metal bottlecaps! You can use silicone finder cots or tweezers to pick up the caps and our on your project!
No wax, no problem, try using broken crayons (although color can rub off because they do not contain the resin real sealing wax has.)
You can find inexpensive brass sealing wax stamper sets also on amazon in any theme you can imagine! amzn.to/3zD5BnV
But, you can also use rubber stamps if you coat them in glycerin or pigment ink fist. Be sure to let them cool thoroughly before removing them from the wax.
A bag of ice is handy to set your stampers on to make them cold prior to pressing on the hot wax.
You can also place 3 wax pallets on your project pressed into a triangle shape and heat them with a heat gun to melt them. Be careful with this method.
You can also get the candle-like sealing wax sticks you light and drip if you are just getting started and want a simpler option: amzn.to/3vn7Vgl
You can make your seals ahead of time on a silicon mat and glue them to a project later.
Some sealing wax sticks can be used in a glue gun but I prefer just using colored hot glue sticks for this. amzn.to/3Q2Viz8 The only downside is ou have to finish a stick up before moving onto the next color. You may want to make extras on a silicone mat and then switch colors. They even make mats with round depressions for this if you don't want to free-hand it: amzn.to/3b8avA7
A metallic pen is nice to color raised edges of wax seals.
    Try a class! lindsayweirich...

Good tip to use a mug warmer and the bottle caps, as you can keep several caps going simultaneously. 💡I always found little patience to wait for the wax to melt on the spoon...Frugal tip: I use a silicone tipped tool (sold for nail art) to clean up the wax from the spoon. It gets every little but that remains there after pouring. It is quick enough to allow all of it to go into the poured wax on my project. Thanks Lindsay! Once again, a other top tip from you

Mug Warmer idea is great….I didn’t have any bottle caps …so I’ve been using the empty metal tea light containers….just another option for anyone not having bottle caps 😊

Wow, I never thought to use a warmer! Great tips today! I have a ton of wax and seals, but I always dread doing the whole candle/spoon thing because my old arthritic hands tend to shake and wax goes everywhere. THANKS!!

You can put the spoon on the warmer then over a flame for a few seconds to get it molten to save effort.

Love this tip! Never would have thought of this. I just found wax sticks and a low temp gun over the weekend. That way is so simple but I have a bunch of these melts so when I go to do them I will remember this tip.

    Hi All
I use several old small wax jars with tea light candles in and old deep table spoons for the wax . It melts fast. So i have several shot glasses or spoons lined up ready to go with wax in and a glass of water in to cool the spoon. I do all this on a silicone mat for easy clean up.
And if you are making them to use later you can just pour the wax onto the mat and in a few mins it can be peeled off to use or store for later use.

I had a sleeve of mini aluminum tart tins on hand that i hadnt had a use for in years. I decided to try them in place of bottle caps, which I didn't have. It works! And after it cools, if there's enough wax left in it to bother with, it can be popped out as a thin wax disc and saved to melt again later.

I just saw those silicone nail soak packs at the Dollar Store as well, and I bought them to cover some larger paint brushes - I'll cut a hole in the end, and I think I will use some of their finger cots for that too!
I don't have a sealing wax set anymore, but my daughter-in-law does, so I can share this with her!
Sorry no likes or comments lately, it's been over a week since I watched you on my laptop RUclips & not my "Smart TV."
Did you know that we can't always leave a like or a comment on the TVs unless we make an account on each TV we end up watching on! I guess it's time to get RUclips on my new Kindle.

well you can pour on silicone sheet then peel off from it..so you can make more.
another u can take any gold/metallic paint and rub on the seals to make the design appear.
you can do the same with hot glue gun. u will need to buy colored glue sticks. even easier then rub on bold color to make it pop..

What an awesome tip/idea... I've got a bunch of old candles that I might try this on. The spoon over a flame thing is not something I wanted to do (I can be a fire hazard🤣) & warming the wax up in a bottle cap is a great idea.
Do you think this method would work with really cheap and crappy oil pastels that are not even fit for kids to use? This would be better than throwing them out, but I didn't know if whatever makes them a pastel as oppose to a crayon would make this a bad idea.
Thanks as always and keep the great ideas coming 😊

I almost always find something in your video that will help me out.... like the ice. Did you know you can get flexible wax that you can send through the mail without worrying about breakage? Yeah news to me but a friend turned me on to that. Great video Lindsay ! Hugs! deb
