Little in-joke there is that Atkinson went to Oxford (Queens) and Fry went to Cambridge (different Queens!), so Fry is poo-pooing Atkinson’s Alma Mater.
Blackadder's Christmas Carol [1988] was a one off Christmas special episode before Blackadder Goes Forth was written. Can't recall if the writing is as good as series 2-4.
"BAAAAAAHH!!!" Love these reactions. I hope you're enjoying your time in London. Oddly enough, I'm thinking of moving to Canada (Montreal, Vancouver or Calgary are the shortlist!)
Still find it sort of odd to see Hugh Laurie playing *such* a goofy role, so well, after getting used to him as House for several years. Great talent, that guy. (And all the others, too.)
@@MeganRuth Yes, but I don't think George's confession about writing to his Uncle Herman completely exonerated Nurse Mary though. She didn't deny it when Blackadder accused her of being the spy. So I think you were somewhat correct, if not completely. The initial evidence points to her (speaking German, quizzing Blackadder over tank movements etc) Still a great twist at the end though.😂
Love Blackadder. They don't seem to date - I always find them amusing. The earlier episodes weren't quite as good as those that came later. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
The only thing that S1 *REALLY* has going for it is the signature tune. It’s grandiose and bombastic. The end credits version is better as it has proper, regular lyrics sung by a baritone singer. Truly *magnificent* and is the best version of the Blackadder signature tune by a country mile! Blackadder S1 veers from very good to “meh” (but is never really bad). That consistency of quality you see in S2-4 is not there in S1, so you need to watch it with slightly different expectations. S2-4 are the polished product. S1 is unpolished - it shows some potential but there’s a load of crap covering the rest of its potential. It is funny but it’s also a bit of a mess, like it doesn’t know which way to present itself or which comedy vibe it wants to go for. Sometimes it tries to be a pastiche of the many, many costume dramas that the BBC and ITV did at that time, sometimes it tries to be like a historical Monty Python sketch drawn out to 30 minutes and sometimes it’s very much like a bad play by immature know-it-all undergraduates (the “Will from The Inbetweeners” type) in a University Comedy Society play. As I say, it’s not *BAD* and when it tries it can be very funny, but it does seem like the cast and crew were trying out all sorts of ideas that didn’t really “land” that made it into the recordings that should have been nipped in the bud in script editing and rehearsals.
From the second series on, the series was written by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, while the first was written by Richard Curtis, Rowan Atkinson and William Shakespear, so it's mainly because of the quality of writers.
@@PaulCarew-j9j I agree. Some very funny stuff in that first series. The alternate history thing was interesting too. I prefer the changes to Blackadder's character himself in the later series, but plenty of good stuff in that first series.
The final episode of this season is one of the finest ever. Make sure you stay to the end credits.
Little in-joke there is that Atkinson went to Oxford (Queens) and Fry went to Cambridge (different Queens!), so Fry is poo-pooing Atkinson’s Alma Mater.
Richard Curtis is also an Oxford graduate
😂 brilliant!
FRY'S A QUEEN TOO.
What about Hull?
Or Newcastle? (including Northumbria U)? Not to forget Teeside U.
FYI I didn't get into Durham U. So I had to go to Sunderland .
One of the greatest comedy series ever
The last one is the best one, it'll tug at the heartstrings.
You're in for a treat! The last episode is one of the best episodes in TV history.
The last episode is memorable.
Agree, not only one of the best comedy, but proberly the best ending to a series. and summed up war exactly... for once you actualy felt for Darling.
I remember watching this series in the 80's, it was the highlight of BFBS, (British forces overseas TV,). Great reaction & very nostalgic for me. ; )
Back when bfbs was one channel
The best !!!!! I’ve never seen you laugh so much doing a reaction . It will help your poorly arm - laughter is the best medicine
Oh absolutely! 😆
I always like to think this season of Blackadder and Allo Allo are existing in the same universe.
Hmm 🤔 Different World Wars 🙄

Blackadder, my favourite British tv 📺 show ever! Both Hugh Laurie & Rowan Atkinson were hilarious 😂 here!
Agreed! 😂
The last one you have to play to the very end of the credits. The part where the show goes real.
"BAAAAAAHH!!!" Love these reactions. I hope you're enjoying your time in London. Oddly enough, I'm thinking of moving to Canada (Montreal, Vancouver or Calgary are the shortlist!)
Another great reaction Megan, to a truly brilliant episode 👍👍👍
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
I don’t believe that comedy gets any better than Blackadder.

Great talent, that guy. (And all the others, too.)
"Poo-poo" is an abbreviation of "propositioned" as in "Darling propositioned for sex"
"Now, 'leak' is a positively disgusting word"
You wanted to see Blackadder in modern times. Now try watching “Blackadder goes back and forth”.
He has a Time Machine. 😹
Miranda Richardson is a fine actress with six BAFTA and seven Golden Globe nominations including three wins in her career.
Well done Megan, on spotting straight away that the German spy was Miranda Richardson. Just one episode left to go and it's an awesome finale.
It wasn't though! Both me and Blackadder were wrong 😂
It was George inadvertently sharing top secret information in his letters.
Hiya Megan, don't bother with Blackadder, the first season,it's not worth the time, this is Choppy

@@MeganRuthI like to think Blackadder got to the Nurse just in time and she lived happily ever after
Blackadder back and forth is brilliant 👍 it’s a 1999 special
you should watch Death at a Funeral 2007, its perfect for your show
and the Melenial edition too

I challenge you not to cry at the end of the last episode I can’t and I’ve seen it many many times
Last episode Great sad ending
Don't commit to the whole of series 1... it doesn't compare well
💋💋💋💋💋💋👍👍👍
Last episode is epic, you'll need some cleenex..
Hiya Megan, was Blackadder shown in Canada? dont bother with the first season, its not worth the effort, this is Choppy
I'm not sure if it was since it aired before I was born! I don't recall seeing reruns in Canada
Don't agree, it is underrated.
@@MeganRuth Ask your parents if they watched Blackadder in Canada, there was a U.S version called 1775, but it bombed massively
