      looool! I'm already feeling the eurocrack. Shortly after making this video I ordered a Morphagene and Maths. There's no hope for me is there?

      The Make Noise stuff looks crazy! If you do get Maths, I would love to see what you would do with it!

      Once I wrap my head around the Maths I'll be sure to post some vids haha.

    I came here via Red Means Record, and he's right you have a good way of breaking down the more complicated aspects of synths and associated bits n pieces. This video helps me a lot since I've been looking into Eurorack again..👍

    Nice to see the start of your system. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

    Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. It’s one of the few videos I’ve found that takes you step-by-step through setting up your first modules in a rack. This is so helpful!
    Most other RUclipsrs dive deep into the complexities without covering the basics and the fundamentals, so this video (and your Eurorack playlist) are instant bookmarks for me!
    Related: I love that you’re exploring the TipTop Audio ONE with the Korg SQ-1. I have the SQ-1 and I’m about to buy the ONE with the V HAUS card, so your video covering that is bookmarked, too! Thanks again.

    Your video are really awesome. I love the quality of the film-making and editing. And your voice. Dopeness.

    great video.. i love how you start from basically nothing with eurorack making so many people (myself included) quite envious!

    YES! Finally we get the once upon a synth eurorack adventure!
    Edit: I would recommend going to a frame shop and ask for mat board scraps and then you can cut those to size and poke holes in them and make blind panels. That way we don't have to look at the case power supply all the time.
    And obviously you need a Maken0ise Morphogene

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into getting some cheap blank panels.
      Oh and I did order the Morphagene after I made this video lol, so it should be coming soon! (The eurocrack is getting to me....)

    Hi, nice video. I heard it is dangerous to have the power supply exposed like that and it is better to cover it all with blind panels. Do you know anything about that?

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  6 лет назад +1

      Hm, I haven't heard about that. I guess it could be dangerous if it's on and you start poking around in there, but I usually keep my hands away from there. I've since then filled the modular so it's no longer exposed. I supposed eurorack is so addicting that most people rarely have room to see the power supply lol.

    • @HelderMusic107
      @HelderMusic107 6 лет назад

      once upon a synth cool thanks. I wrote to intelijel to ask (no reply yet).I heard it could be dangerous not only if you touch the connections but also if a cable incidentally falls in there.

    I don't know if you've heard about them, but Bastl Instruments make awesome modules. Great sounding, wooden and pretty cheap!

    • @robertsyrett1992
      @robertsyrett1992 7 лет назад

      Yeah, and they have granular sample type of stuff also!

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад

      Yeah I've definitely heard of them, love their general philosophy and attitude (Cuckoo's documentary was awesome). I'm not too familiar with their eurorack modules but I'll take a closer look, thanks!

    Cool idea to start with a sample-based VCO. The 4ms Dual Looping Delay could be fun to add to your setup!

    the cables are cool and look/feel great, but they tend to get dirty, especially the white ones

  • @skyreadersociety6183
    @skyreadersociety6183 7 лет назад +1

    Very much like the idea of the modular sampler. But you will definately grow: MIDI to CV, envelopes, multiples - maybe a (fast) LFO, s.th. to clock/sync it etc. etc. The old problem here: no env modulation the filter, so the pure & undynamic filtering of samples is quite dissapointing cause you expected the huge analog sound but just got dampening. Modulars are nice, but a bit of an endless journey (which might be good .. ;-) )

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад

      Yeah admit my little "demo" at the end was a little underwhelming. I definitely need to invest in more modulation sources. I will be posting a video shortly (prob Monday) of a slightly more interesting patch utilizing the VCA + Peaks as an env. generator.

    • @skyreadersociety6183
      @skyreadersociety6183 7 лет назад

      No - not underwhelming, I actually liked it 'cause it showed clearly that in the modular world you have to take care about everything and be skilled & creative. Which is good for us lazy modern digital consumers ;-)

    Check out the Intellijel Rainmaker...I think with a sampler this would make for great and weird sounds. Thanks so much for the video, Im literally thinking of getting into modular and saw the 7u case and was wondering how to do line out. Does the case come with its own power cables?

  • @TottoXzip
    @TottoXzip 7 лет назад

    i got to ask you, cause i have also orderd that case. Was the 1u modules you had included in the case or did you order them sepretly ? in any case, Really cool build you've got going. ill subscribe and look forward to the rest of the build :)

  • @sasarasa88

    I would like to do something similar (sampler + analog filter.) Do you know if the tiptop one can play samples chromatically, controlled by volt/oct signals? In other words, I would like a digital oscillator that I can feed with my own samples. I know there's a doepfer module but its sample management software seems way too old

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад

      So I thought the One would do volt/octave but according to the manual the CV input is not strictly volt/octave. But, one of the CV modes allows for the input to be quantized to pitch so in effect it doesn't need to follow volt/octave. So in theory you could use it to play chromatically. I'm going to post a TipTop one tutorial video tomorrow in which I will go over the different modes. I wanted to try controlling the One with an arturia keystep keyboard but for some reason using the pitch output from the keystep didn't work, I'm not sure if it's the keystep itself. If I get better results with controlling the One melodically I'll post back.

    I cant contribute ideas for sample based modules, I dont know eurorack that well. I will nonethess recomend you get the Shapeshifter module, it just seems like the most interesting single sound source, I imagine paired with the pro 2 you would find plenty of useage for it

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад

      Awesome, great suggestion! The shapeshifter has been on my radar but I don't know too much about it. I will definitely take a closer look.

    I love your vids. Which case do you use for performance now? I just bought a Doepfer 3 x 168hp. I was using three Mantis cases. It’s a major upgrade. Happy Holidays!

    but didnt you already have a small euro with some make noise gear?

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 лет назад

      I did! Good memory. I actually had pieces of small eurorack setups in the past but never fully had a clear idea of what system I wanted to build until now. I've always dabbled with a couple of modules but never really took eurorack seriously so I'm still new to it all. That euro system I had with the make noise stuff is back in Canada. When I moved to the US about 4 years ago I left some gear back home. So in a sense I'm restarting from scratch here. I also have some tip top drum modules that I got a while back but I haven't fully utilized those either. Hopefully my new system will be more focused.
