    So let me get this straight... The Quebec citizens wanted to expand their golf course, but the Mohawks said “no” so then the police had to raid them, and throw tear gas at them, instead of just building the golf course somewhere else?

    • @drummond3524
      @drummond3524 6 лет назад +63

      No, the Mohawks were looking to expand if anything. You're forgetting the fact that the natives took arms and were threatening guerrilla warfare. Of course the police had to bloody well get involved. Not to mention this bullshit about "their land" is masking a drug trade route.

      @@drummond3524 it was originally the Mohawk's. Canada "borrowed" the land and never gave it back and then wanted to take more.

    Canada lectures on humans rights elsewhere in the world and does this to native Mohawk people. It's a complete double standard. They brought in the army to expand a golf course on people's sacred burial ground. Does Canada -- the world's 2nd largest country -- lack lands?

      Agree. But you must know that their Haudenosaunee ancestors killed thousands of indigenous peoples in the Ohio Valley during the Beaver Wars. Then some Mohawks became Christians, broke away from their Kanienkehaka brothers and relocated in New France.

    • @tanler7953
      @tanler7953 3 года назад +1

      @@Nevilleysamy Of course, I agree we shouldn't pay for what our grandfathers did. But that's not my meaning. What the Haudenosaunee did in the Ohio valley, they did to survive. European pandemic diseases wiped out so much of the population, mostly the elderly people who knew the old ways, whose labour and knowledge were lost forever. As a result, the younger generation was desperate to find new hunting grounds so they could continue to trade animal skins in exchange for European goods. And that's why Iroquois war parties began to search far and wide and encroach on distant indigenous territories. It was a question of survival. In a similar fashion, what you call "colonialism" is also a mechanism for survival. Colonialism occurs when newcomers dominate those people who were living in the same area before them, as what happened in North America when Europeans arrived in great numbers and sustained their communities with a high birth rate. Who are we to deny the right of French-Canadians to survive in their own province? Or the right of Canadians, in Canada? Or of Americans in the US? It's just nationalism, and when nationalism becomes extreme it can turn into ethnic-cleansing. Anyway, that's my general point. As far as Kanesatake is concerned, this is an historical dilemma. The original inhabitants were, after all, Catholic converts. The Kanesatake warriors fought as allies of the French for many years. They even fought against their own brother Mohawks of the Iroquois Confederacy, during the Lake George campaign of the Seven Years War. I think they are owed some gratitude by Quebecers for past loyalties and contributions.

    I just learned about this and it seems the army had every right to intervene, the natives had illegal weapons, they threatened all of the town by using aggression against the municipal government, and then killed a policeman after illegally protesting with illegal guns for the past weeks. I may be wrong but when they brought guns and shot a policeman and entrenched them selves they were rebelling, and in Russia it would have gone much worse for the rebels.

And you forget that there are many other occupied groups in the world other than the natives in North America and when compared to them the Natives had it easy the natives are the most spoiled occupied groups in the world, their so called oppressors bend over backwards to keep them happy, they dont even have to pay tax and yet they are allowed to use government benefits.

      @@ФеликсЮсупов-н8и Ah, so we can agree that people will fight back. It is natural to do so. I would expect people to fight back.
      Now as to your second point about them being spoiled... Hardly. That is a relatively new thing. Even still to this day both Canada and the U.S.A. do not keep track of Natives that go missing, murdered, traficked, etc. There is still a campaign of "disappearance", much of now under the disguise of being P.C. such as removing Native themed mascots... Sterilization, cultural reeducation,, on and on, and on... Taxes...they pay plenty.
      However, I am willing to bet, if you and I were to talk to each other face to face, we would agree on more than disagree. Not on all things, of coarse, but I think you understand.
      Full disclosure, the largest single portion of my ancestry is Native to the U.S.A....But I have ancestors from around the world and am proud of them all. Some won against others, that is life. We were all raiders at some point in time. We were all slaves at some point in time. Again such is life.
