I loved your reaction. I have followed him since he sang SOS in 2017. Dimash sings in all registers, even off the piano - in not just one song, but one phrase. Same with all genres, he switches back and forth as he feels what the emotions of the song warrant. Prepare to be amazed. I have seen vocal coaches cry, swear in astonishment, set down their headphones and walk off camera. Two even fell off their chairs! He has trained almost his entire life for this. He sings extended sections of the piece in different parts of his range, from low to very high, from opera-like style to pop. His ability to sing in many octaves in many styles is outstanding. But that isn't even all that he brings to his music.

Dimash comes in as an unknown wildcard in a big chinese singing contest with established artists. First act on scene for the season. He floors everyone. You can see on the faces of his competitors, the shock, bewilderment and defeat. Truly epic. I love how he "paints" the music with his free hand.

@debbiemorgan859 Because a tenor has limits to the higher ranges a counter tenor isn't limited as much as a tenor would be. But, it's just a music terminology that's really the only 'closest' way to put in a context *where he is in the musicians world in a way that makes sense for others but we know that Dimash really has no limits and can't be put in a 'certain box' ie; soprano, tenor, bass, tenor, etc...❤ I hope this helps you a little bit. #Dears4Life❤

You need to listen to more of Dimash’s performances before you judge his range and where he is on the base to soprano scale. It’s now seven years since he got famous globally. Dimash is a tenor. He has a 7 octave range. He plays 7 instruments, sings in over 13 languages, and sings every genre of music from rock, classic, rap, metal, folk, traditional, and show tunes, and more.

You might enjoy glancing at a moderately recent piece written and performed by Dimash--El Amor en Ti. He sings extended sections of the piece in different parts of his range, from low to very high, from opera-like style to pop.
His ability to sing in many octaves in many styles is outstanding. But that isn't even all that he brings to his music.
Today DIMASH 's lower range is very much deeper and the high is still the same. He covers all the piano keys, anf some off the keyboard.

Dimash comes in as an unknown wildcard in a big chinese singing contest with established artists. First act on scene for the season. He floors everyone. You can see on the faces of his competitors, the shock, bewilderment and defeat. Truly epic. I love how he "paints" the music with his free hand.

@debbiemorgan859 Because a tenor has limits to the higher ranges a counter tenor isn't limited as much as a tenor would be. But, it's just a music terminology that's really the only 'closest' way to put in a context *where he is in the musicians world in a way that makes sense for others but we know that Dimash really has no limits and can't be put in a 'certain box' ie; soprano, tenor, bass, tenor, etc...❤ I hope this helps you a little bit. #Dears4Life❤

4:20 funny thing is that he was second in that competition show.... as this was show for chinese professionals only and he was invited there as a wild card so he was not allowed to win it. they changed those rules next year and invited him again, as a guest star. Also after that competition show he stayed in china for 2 years becoming superstar there

This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer).
The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

Dimash's natural voice range is bass/tenor/alto/soprano/whistle. He sings in all ranges, almost 7 octaves. NOBODY can do all the amazing things Dimash can do as a musician, songwriter, singer, and performer. NO ONE!

You barely scratched the top of the iceberg. That isn't even his best performance on that song, and it was 7y ago. His range goes from bass to soprano and even off the piano, besides all sort of techniques (head voice, belting, vocal fry, whistle, tribal, opera, and anything else you can imagine). You should checkout Stranger, Sinful Passion, The Story Of One Sky (his own composition) and his duet with Placido Domingo. Then, you won't get out of this rabbitt hole.

I so much enjoyed your reaction Faana. Many reactors simply keep saying "OMG" throughout the song. But you commented even on the intro section and had nice insights to share. Not only about Dimash's range but many other aspects of the total performance. I have heard this performance 100+ times and it still gives me chills. It is one of the musical highlights from history that I truly would have wanted to be there on the night. We can only imagine the visceral effect on the audience.
