Arguably the second best thing about playing mono color, and the reason i play it. The other reason is consistency, of cource. If you have land, you arent mana color screwed, they are all islands 😂
Mono Blue Artifact is a ton of fun. It got to be such a problem for my friend group that all of their red decks now include a Vandalblast and a Hellkite Tyrant...
would've been great to also mention some more ways to close out the game in mono-blue. *personally* lookin for sum stuff that isn't just "if X, you win the game" effects or infinite combos. because in a more casula pod any wincon that wins you the game on the turn you play it, often can't really be dealt with by some upgraded precon level decks. something like talrand or minn do great, but it's still a limited arsenal of choices. alas blue just isn't exactly a color known for a lot of strong/efficient creature potential. most big creatures blue can cast wouldve been 2 generic cheaper if it was any other color
@jevery4307 You actually have discovered a secret 🤫 I am working on a series of videos about how different colors can close out a game. I agree that relying on token creating effects for spell slinger effects or just winning the game on the spot can be super annoying in mono blue. Cards that I will suggest for this would things like: -Cyberdrive Awakener and Masterful Replication (for artifact heavy decks) -Archtype of Imagination / Wonder for the go wide board -Ixadron or Polymorphist Jest can control massive boards and make them tiny Unfortunatly mono blue doest have a ton of ways that like to win without meeting conditions. But I am with you that we can still do our part to play mono blue without combos or "you win the game" effects!
Mana Ramp in blue IS card draw. Multiple cards per turn. In mono blue, you’re gonna get all the lands you need. Also, ALL the lands that tap for 2 or 3 or more mana.
I love mono blue, it’s so fun and challenging , there’s nothing like dropping a baral chief of compliance on the table and everyone looking at you differently . 😂
5:00 If you're in mono blue and not playing a dragon themed deck, just use a basic island. Lapis Orb of Dragonkind is awful outside of niche circumstances.
As a long running Mono-B mage that dabbles in U I gotta say, I like the ability to just spring something on someone but it feels like I am dumping twice the effort into removing things.
Blue was supposed to be the second/third strongest color regarding ramp, but Wizards keeps wanting to fuck with Blue. That Dreamscape Artist is a totally joke.
Unfortunately with the way the second hand MTG market is going. Prices are only going up. This video was not made with budget in mind. But maybe a future video will detail some sweet budget swaps for powerful cards.
these are some great tips. I am curious as to what people use as a win-con in mono blue - so far I only see infinites and grindy long-term plans that just wear the game out and make people concede.
I have been after this question for a long time my friend. Blue is my favorite way to play MTG but it leans so heavily into locking games, drawing it's whole deck, or going infinite.
I have an Emry deck, and usually win either by milling/drawing myself and then using Thoracle, reach 10 mana and use mindslaver or mill/exile my opponents decks.
I love the video man! Few pointers try not to sound like you're reading a script. ;) You're adding jokes into the script that don't fly well with the audience be yourself and speak from the heart so it sounds natural but keep your key points on the script so you can know what to talk about and don't get lost. This is one of my many RUclips accounts for magic haha - Post Malone
I do like to start and end my videos with a script so I can sound professional and not ramble but when I talk about individual cards I like to try and wing it. Thank you for your feed back!
I liked your advice in not overdoing the counters, or being political and offering to use your control to help another player. Solid deck advice all around. Humor me here tho, hot take... I owned a game store. I would watch as people would ostracize the blue players on commander night. There would be a table of 4 where everyone is playing blue or a combo with blue. That game would last 2-4 hours, while other tables did 2-3 games in that same time and switched up players throughout. Generally, I won't even entertain playing against a mono blue commander deck. 99% of the time, the pre-game goes like this "it's mono blue, but it's not that powerful." Then, its just full of counter and card draw spells, and designed to slow the game to an absolute crawl. Everyone has their opinions, and mine is that blue is the most arduous, and least fun, to play against. At the end of the day, commander is not a competitive format. It was created for fun. Blue is the antithesis of fun. Urza, Baral, Gin Gataxis...I'm glad you spent a bunch of money to not allow anybody to play the game but you. Enjoy solitaire too? Just know, if you bring a mono blue deck to a new game store and play with new people. They will either demolish you because of the idea of having all their stuff countered; or, you succeed in your game plan and shutdown the entire table. I hope you are a good winner, because you should probably buy the table a pizza or something after wasting their time, or they probably won't want to play with you again. My point is, if you're making a commander deck purely for YOUR fun, that's pretty messed up, and generally doesn't go over well at the CASUAL commander table. CEDH is a completely different game. Urza belongs in CEDH, there is no casual Urza deck.
I would like to say there is one Urza deck which is definitely not cEDH. I’ve come to call it “Urza goes fishing” where it’s just artifacts which don’t do much, “junk”, and a number of sea creatures. I’ll admit, it does necessitate forgoing lots of counters and control pieces, but it is quite silly gambling with his third ability. My favorite brew has no artifacts above 1 cmc. Honestly, the deck mostly is just playing really heavily into its concept at the expense of everything else. Building a deck which is perfect is fun for some people, but the dumber the goal and the harder you try to accomplish that goal is, imo, the best part about EDH
The only other decks that get shutdown as quick is izzit. Most people don’t even give them breathing room. As a bant player that runs aura shards and countertop I do my duty to ruin any mono blue players day.
It's also good to mention mono colored decks are more accessible since you don't need to worry about buying expensive dual lands.
Yes! This is something that I tend to overlook. But cheap land bases are very nice. Then you can commit more to matching land art or foils!
Arguably the second best thing about playing mono color, and the reason i play it. The other reason is consistency, of cource. If you have land, you arent mana color screwed, they are all islands 😂
My group knows blue decks. I always die first, it's just not worth it anymore.
never tap out.
One correct answer exists: mono blue artifact beatdown.
Mono Blue Artifact is a ton of fun. It got to be such a problem for my friend group that all of their red decks now include a Vandalblast and a Hellkite Tyrant...
Kami of the crescent moon deckdraw
my answer: counterspells are hilarious
One of my favorite blue ramp cards is Retraced image, the ability to play an extra land from your hand for only 1 mana is really great
U ramp is casting a Redirect on someone elses' Kodama's Reach or making token copies of Thran Dynamo or Gilded Lotus
would've been great to also mention some more ways to close out the game in mono-blue.

flying enablers might actually be a pretty good idea yeah, i had no idea about cyberdrive existing.

Extraplanar lens! Its the best blue ramp spell
There’s an interesting land ramp option in blue called Mitotic Manipulation. If you’re running enough basics, it’s not as risky as it reads.
Conisder using nyx lotus with unwinding clock to mimic seedborn muse and hold up blue mana on everyone's turn
You, my friend, are truly evil.
I still use Venser for my mono blue commander. Love him!
As a long running Mono-B mage that dabbles in U I gotta say, I like the ability to just spring something on someone but it feels like I am dumping twice the effort into removing things.
I have a Donal deck, its my faerie tribal deck, and it works pretty well 💙✨
Love Mono blue, but I play mostly Dimir/Simic
Blue was supposed to be the second/third strongest color regarding ramp, but Wizards keeps wanting to fuck with Blue. That Dreamscape Artist is a totally joke.
Everyone just thinks that Blue is the strongest because of counterspells. Then WotC said "Wait...blue cant do everything yet...lets keep tweaking it."
Machine God effigy is a Nice mana rock for Blue also
Set of those cards ain’t cheap, I checked the total price of every card you mentioned and it was well over $350

I built my first mono blue deck today.
Which one ?
Azami wizard decks are awesome btw
I am slowly becoming a blue player…. I love it lol

pls no!

Why you shouldn’t play mono-blue in Commander: Cursed with permanent virginity
Mono blue players are the worst!
Only when we want to be ;)
