Lehew Tech, this is one of the most detailed repair videos I have seen. Clarity of the video and your explanation along with the size of the nuts/bolts was so helpful. I'm heading out now to pull mine out. Thanks!
I have to replace the starter in my 2011 with 161,000, then my 2009 with 112,000 miles. Never had to replace the starter in my 2004, but had to replace the alternator, water pump, map sensor, clutch slave and transmission. It’s such a pain to remove the transmission I installed a new clutch and pilot bearing. Pilot bearing rollers were just dust, leaving the pilot bearing cage which proved to be quite hard to remove with my slide hammer in 20 degree weather. I also replaced the steering rack, all tie rods, lower ball joints and need to replace the uppers. I replaced all of the rear brakes and parking brake cables. I put a lot into my 2004 then bought the 2009 a month later. I gotta fix some accident damage in the 2009 then sell it. 2004 XL 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed manual a.c. longbed, white 134,000 miles. 2009 XL 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed manual a.c. longbed, white 112,000 miles. 2011 XLT 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed manual a.c. supercab, white 161,000 miles.
Appreciate this video. Do you have any tips on getting the 13 mm bolt on the front bracket off? I tried extensions on my socket wrench and it's just on there tight. I thought about getting a bar breaker, but not really sure if it would work very well with a large or multiple extensions to reach that bolt. Thanks again
The Duratec engine was originally designed to be transverse mounted for front wheel drives. Rather than changing the engine, Ford mounted the engine front-to-back (sideways from its intended design) and rigged everything around it. Reliability-wise its's a great engine, but some of the repairs are ridiculously awkward. If you think the starter is bad, to change the main coolant hose, you have to remove the transmission.
My 01- v6-3.0 ranger ..I bought a new starter and it has a wire that's supposed to be clamped and heated??? What is it?? Were does it plug into??? Thanks.
Dude the one thing I wanted to know about was that little wire with the orange tag on it that says that it is to connect to the existing lead ? And that's the only part you didn't do? Damn it 😩
I don't know how many teeth this one had. Best off by comparing the number of teeth between the old and new starter. Did you install a new part or remanufactured? And is it grinding only when you attempted to start or the whole time the engine is running?
Ugh... just got my work cut on my Ranger 2004.. ain't it amazing that the car "running just minutes ago" and then next time you go to start it, BBBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBCCCRCRCRCRCRCRCRCRR(^($%(#&$%)^$)#*&_#(& a big omnious sound comes from under the hood. Thanks for the vid man.

Damn handy mandy⚒... might as well fix the body frame of the car too😄. Jack of all trades❗❗❗
I was able to get to the electrical connections through the hood on my 06.
You make that look so easy have to say awesome job filming as you work

Thanks for the great video! I agree these stupid rangers are tight to work on always..so frustrating
For real man, hope you never have to change the egr tube on one. Thanks for watching.

Is this the same procedure for a manual 3.0?

What year is this car?
Ford rangers are tight spaces no matter what, I'm a big guy with thick arms...she just tears me up...shes a redhead and tight...rofl.
Lehew, parabéns poucos videos no youtube são tão bem explicados.
On mine the nut-to-ground-wire was tighter than the stud-to-engine connection. I ended up breaking the terminal and had to replace the battery cable.
How many teeth has the bendix? I had replaced a starter and now is grinding with the flywheel thx. Good video

I have a 2006 Ford ranger do I need to take the starter off take the transmission out
Probably not. I didn’t have to remove the starter in my 2004 2.3 5 speed when I replaced the transmission and the clutch.
