BackBone has a list of compatible cases on their website here (compatible cases aren't limited to this list): help.playbackbone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18306138828311-Which-cases-are-compatible-with-the-Backbone-One-2nd-Gen-

D Brand Ghost case works.
@@ReyG_HKSHonly the playstation ed works with remote play? I do prefer the black controller
@@dbamaro yes i seen the black controller. the only down fall is that it is setup like a xbox controller
@@dbamaro The black one will also work with PS remote play.
Excellent review, THANK YOU for focusing on the cases so much, that was the thing I was most curious about
Thanks for taking the time to comment that you found this useful! 🙏
Thanks for probably the only person that covered the case compatibly. Big ups to you man
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and let me know you found this useful! 🙏
The thing I dont like about the back bone are those painful-ass thumb sticks -they hurt. We want full size xbox/playstation sized thumb sticks.
the review with the cases is whate everyone is looking for! Thanks for this review
Glad you found this useful! Thanks for taking the time to comment! 🙏
Thanks!!! Your video is the best one I’ve whatched so far!!!!
Wow, thank you, and thanks for taking the time to comment that you found this useful!🙏
Thanks I’ll head out for it tomorrow!
I think you’ll enjoy it. Let me know what you think!
this really help ! for me and my s23 ultra, one side i had to remove the piece by the usb c entirely with my case and it works perfectly now .
The new gen 2 controller can accomplish larger devices. It’s better all around.
nice review!
They should’ve just called it Backbone Two rather than Backbone One Gen 2
Definitely confusing naming scheme.
Thanks for the awesome review. I just recieved my backbone for xmas and didn't know what the extra things where for as I was getting annoyed removing my case all the time to play. I was about to order a new case thinking mine wasn't thin enough. It works perfectly now that I replaced those extra bits.
Glad I could help!
my case is relatively thick at the base by the charging port, will it still work?
Great, been waiting for this! Don't know what took them so long. I've skipped over so many of these types of controllers because they don't work with cases, and I think many people do the same.
Right, there are too many accessories for mobile devices that don’t take into account that the majority of people use cases.
Same and A PlayStation Themed One Too!
@SuperMario718 … and it works great with remote play on the PS5. A PS Portal would be redundant if you have this.
@@ReyG_HKSH Yeah Exactly 💯 They are Getting it Right with this Controller Finally 🎮 , Imma get it when it's on Sale Tbh! Because it's not worth 100 dollars 💰
@@ReyG_HKSH The Portal Is Wack , it's Not Worth it in my Opinion , Back bone did What I wanted them to do by adding case support cause I don't want to scratch my phone if I was to use one and also that subscription is not worth it either that 50 u was talking about , that should be free on my Opinion tbh!
I actually bought one of these without knowing it worked with cases as the last one I had for my 14 did not. This was a welcomed surprise for sure!
That’s great! I wasn’t planning on replacing my lightning version anytime soon but the release of AAA games this year and case compatibility pushed me to buy. 👍
The gen 1 backbone did work with cases that had a more cut out style bottom like the LaterCase or Pitaka case. And I'm so glad I was grandfathered into the sub and get it free for life😅
Lucky! The app is useful for discovery BUT, I still don’t think it’s worth the cost of a yearly subscription. We pay so much for the controller, BackBone should make it complimentary.
Agreed. If I wasn't getting it for free, I definitely don't use it enough to justify paying.@@ReyG_HKSH
Yes I have pitaka and it works
Great review! Android/Galaxy guy myself but figure it should work with my slimmer case.
Also digging your Snyder Trinity figures!! 🤘
Is the 2nd gen available with lighting port as well? I have a 14 pro and I was wondering about that :). And great video! Detailed videos like this are always welcome :D
I don’t believe a 2nd gen is in the works for the lighting version. Thanks for watching! 🙏
Such a great review, just bought the Pro Max 15 today, waiting for the shippment, Ill def go for BB Pro playstation, tnx for the info
Thanks! Glad you found it useful. Death Stranding releases next week, just in time 😊
Thank you soooo mucccchhh!!!!
You’re welcome very much! Thanks for watching! 🙏
Interesting, thanks
Dude nooooooo one told me how to change the addaportors and you showed me how easy it was thank you so much
Glad you found it useful!
Thanks your guide helped me choose my case now I can enjoy playing in public without the risk of damaging my phone
Glad this video helped!
Hello! Just to ask how it feels the gen 2 with the IPhone 15 pro max with case?
Thank you for the detailed review! Did you find on the cases with thicker camera bezels placed strain on the usbc port of the phone or backbone due to the tilt? That’s my only concern holding me up from buying this.
You can try removing the adapters altogether, but I haven’t run into any issues with the cases I use daily.
Planning to get the backbone one
For thicket cases just use the Backbone without magnetic inserts.
Unfortunately it’s not that simple. Even if the case fits doesn’t mean it will connect by the example I showed with the Spigen Classic C1.
With my pitaka case I got the iphone 15 promax work with gen 1 had to remove the rubbery part on one side and it works perfect
That’s good to know and I’m sure will help someone out. Thanks for commenting! 👍
I have a ROG 6 Pro. its 173mm in hight. will it fit into the slot gen1 and 2? (assuming it doesn't matter its an android or apple since now its type c)
I don't mind it being off centre since the type c in Rog is at the side. My current kishi V2 fits leaving about a millimetre or less of space when fully stretched. But its not forced.
Looks great. I’ve never been a big fan of the first Backbone on my previous iPhone though. It looks and feels premium, has great, clicky buttons, and does exactly what it promises, but it always felt too small in my hands and I ended up using it a lot less than I thought I would.
Now that the 15 Pro is getting some true AAA games, I’m looking for a new controller. While the Backbone One still seems like the default option, the Gamesir G8 Galileo looks like the better option to me. It’s a bit bigger, seems to have more comfortable grips, has Hall Effect joysticks and actually lets you replace those joysticks yourself. On top of that, it’s about €30-40 cheaper than the Backbone. Don’t know if it works with a case though, which would be a bummer.
Would love to see a comparison between the two.
Never heard of the G8 Galileo, I’ll look into it. Thanks for the recommendation👍
@@ReyG_HKSHit released last month, Great controller looks quite big
Is there a company that makes a similar product to the g8 but for the lightning port? I love the g8 design but I am not upgrading my iPhone 14 😂
I got the Galileo - and it's got a flexible USB-C port so you can fit some cased phones.
Sadly my case doesn't fit in it :(
Does the backbone work with the Otter case?
They should make an adapter for the gen one to use a case.....
Do you know if it works with the dbrand grip case?
It would be nice to get this update for lighting iPhones, backbone would be the undisputed king of mobile gaming controllers
I really enjoyed this video and with Black Friday going on I was able to scoop this for cheap and recently got a S23 , so I am stoked to see what I can get into. Mainly just wanted to play like Hades on it haha
How is it working with your S23?
@ReyG_HKSH I got yuzu running but it's not the best but with Moonlight I'm able to stream my laptop to my cell and that's been pretty awesome
How much was it on Black Friday? I missed out 😕
@RO-cl3ux 33% off I think
@RO-cl3ux….around $50 on Black Friday. But some mentioned Costco has them priced for roughly the same.
Does it work with Defender otterbox?
they really should have given this a new name.. its not super obvious at all that you are getting the "gen 2"...
Nothing that innovative about it, more like gen 1.3
…it is. Literally says it on the box. All it takes is the ability to read…
Will the phone rebel case work for this ?
Is there an adapter that makes it longer to reach through the case 😭
Are the face buttons (square triangle cross circle) really more quiet than those on the first gen ? It was too loud and hard to press ima. Thanks
The buttons are a bit more quieter on the new second gen when compared with the first gen lightning version that I have.
Does the PS5 edition backbone support dual sense?
So there is no gen 2 backbone for lightning? I have an iphone 13mini that i love and would like to use it with a case. Can you confirm the only gen 2’s are usbC?
Since no new iPhones will be using lightning, I would think no lightning gen 2 is planned.
Will the slightly larger gen 2 work on tablets?
I wish the usb C version worked with the iPad mini… would be awesome
Does it work with iPhone 15 pro max with speck presidio 2 phone case on?
Rhino shield cases are still too thick, what a bummer! Still love this controller though
which case u have? I have just bumper case and wondering if it would work
So only difference between gen 1 and gen 2 is the gen 2 doesnt require the case to come off? My case is easily removable so it isnt a problem
Bro, do you know if the OnePlus Open will fit in the Backbone 2? The side of the phone where the USB-C is on had the BIG Hasselblad camera. Thanks!
Sorry, not sure about that one. It might work if the adaptors are removed altogether. Maybe someone who sees this can chime in.
@@ReyG_HKSH All good. Thanks!
So mad Gen 1 case no adopter 🤔
One of the things they are advertising is that the buttons and dpad feel better. You didn’t notice a difference?
So I spent some time using both before answering your question and I maybe notice the shoulder buttons being a subtle upgrade. The rest might be placebo from a new device but I’m not noticing a stark difference. Hope that helps.
I ordered a 2nd gen and it come with the extra adaptors as well. but I just cant seem to take off the original adaptor( for bare phone)?
There should have been tabs attached to the installed adapters to remove them.
nice review, i hate that they fixed the case problems but it still looks janky with the iphone camera's going against the back
Thank you for the unboxing/ Presentation, Great video.I have the same controller in black for Black Friday this year bro I am not going to lie my mobile gaming has dramatically increased from FPS to RP g's even MORP g's. Believe it or not I prefer to take the backbone over the Nintendo switch. Lol the switch never left the dock since blackfriday.😂😂😂.
I believe it! It works well with remote play that the PS Portal I had planned on buying is now off my shopping list 😁
For gen 2, I heard you need to update the firmware on a android before using on a iPhone 15. Is that required or are they coming with the firmware updated already ?
No firmware needed for gen 2.
Thats Gen 1
Cool but how do I know it’s the 2 gen?
hey Rey, great video. do you know if it works with these two iPhone 15 Pro Max cases?
• Peak Design Everyday Case
• Nomad Rugged Case
It sure does 👍🏻
I’ve had a PD Everyday case in the past and I would guess yes, it will work. Sorry no clue with regards to the Nomad but if it’s similar in size and doesn’t have too much material at the bottom of the case then it would be a yes for that one too.
Thanks for the video. I was thinking of getting the Portal, but I'm more convinced of getting one. I alright, have the Steam deck. I need something else on the go. Great feedback
Glad you found it useful.
Have you had any issues with heat?
I figured that since you're using a case while gaming that it might cause issues with heat dissipation.
None so far.
I bought backbone gen 1, and ended up switching it with an Android handheld console, I used the backbone for about a month but the phone screen is so small and the aspect ratio for streaming games makes the screen even smaller, I was eating up my phone's battery and then I decided it wasnt the smartest thing I could buy for the money and benefits
That’s a fair take. If you game heavily that is the move to make. I like it since I just need to throw the Backbone in my backpack/bag and I can game whenever I want to and I’m not packing an extra device.
Fit with rog monarch pro ?
The backbone app isn’t recognizing that I’ve connected the controller. Does anybody have any recommendations?
I have a gen 1 with usb-C and an iphone 15 pro max. When I play death stranding the phone gets quite hot. I would like gen 2 because I can also use the phone case, but I am worried about the phone overheating. because of the heat dissipation, the case will be a problem. What experience do you have?
I’ve never received an overheating warning while playing Death Stranding on my 15 Pro Max in a case when using the BackBone gen 2. I usually run out of battery first which forces me to take a break since I don’t really like to play while tethered. I wouldn’t worry about it, iOS has its fail safes in place.
@@ReyG_HKSH hi bro, i already bought gen 2 today. in my carbon case the phone heats up but it seems ok. god i love this game :)
This is my first time playing Death Stranding and it’s been great so far. I heard they are making a part 2, would be great if it’s a simultaneous release on Apple along with the other consoles.
@@ReyG_HKSH I am also playing this game for the first time. somehow I didn't have time for it and my PC got old :) if the second part gets to the iPhone, I think the phone won't be able to cool it anymore. after all, only the first part is already about 3 years old game. but the idea is nice :)
Agreed it’s a great feature, but playing RE Village for a few days now can feel the phone getting pretty warm. With case the temperature will go higher. So I feel it’s better to game without a case better heat management.
I haven’t had a chance to pick up RE Village recently but I see they had an update. Hopefully it doesn’t just crash out to the Home screen anymore.
Are not these games running on streaming? Why would they crash?@@ReyG_HKSH
@@LK-cy5xe lol no. The actual phone can run the games. That’s why. How do you not know that they run straight on the phone. Do you live under a rock
0:29 " i know a k×ller when i see one" 😮😮😅😅 nah bruh im joking good video by the way
Your video is excellent but Backbone has me insanely confused so maybe you could help me solve this. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max that only uses lightning. I want to keep my case on but Gen 2 only has USB-C. I would use Gen 1 but it won't work with the iPhone 14 camera bezel anyway even if i did take the case off. I saw their option on the site for an adapter kit only but now I'm hesitant.
The adapter kit for the lightning version will allow you to use an iPhone 14 Pro Max without a case. My lighting version of the Backbone came with it in the box but initial releases didn’t include it which is why they are offering it free on the website. If you pick up a lightning gen 1 version today, the adapter should be included.
The Gamesir G8 excels in all aspects when compared to the Backbone One 2nd Gen. Its superior design, wider compatibility, advanced features, and flexible connectivity options make it the preferred choice for gamers seeking a high-quality mobile gaming controller.
No case support on the G8 fyi.
@@BurnoutParadiceROCKS The GameSir G8 Galileo is user-friendly and simple to connect, thanks to its adjustable Type-C connector that is compatible with the majority of phone cases. However, it is important to note that it may not be compatible with bulky or thick phone cases.
With backbone controller, Usb C-Hdmi cable doesn't work. When I connect the hdmi cable on the contoller Tv can't get the signal. Is there a solution to keep controller on and use Usb C-Hdmi connection to TV?
The USB-C port on the controller is just to provide power.
Anyone test this with the Galaxy s24 ultra with otterbox defender?
Does this mean that Gen 2 will not work with iPhone 13 Pro or is there a Lightening port version of Gen 2? Pls clarify
There is no lightning gen 2. If you want to use an iPhone with lightning port you will need to purchase that version.
not working with the nomad rugged :( there is too much lip around the corners
Thanks for reporting back which cases don’t work. This will help someone for sure 👍
Good thing I bought a USBC one for my android I almost went with the iPhone one
Can it play mobile legends?
And without mapping issues?
And why doesn’t it work with the iPad Mini?
How in the world your backbone app has way more options? I don't have my controller settings
iOS app? Should have the same options. Maybe try re-installing or updating.
@@ReyG_HKSH android app has way less options. Annoying
Android and Snapdragon also has ray tracing.
Great video Rey’ So I’m not a gamer but ‘ you mentioned the apple woven case. So I ordered the black woven case for my 15 pro max. I’ll let you know how much I like it .
The black FineWoven will probably fare better than my taupe and I’m actually quite happy with it so far. Good case, still miss the leather but I actually like the feel in hand and the wear it’s starting to display.
I have a UAG case on mine. And it will not work. Won't plug all the way in.. I have the backbone usb-c . But what I wish someone would make covers for the grips and thumb covers. But the only ones I have found are for the lighting connection.
UAG cases have a lot of material near the port so most will likely not work.
@@ReyG_HKSH just found out after I contacted you that they will. You just pop out the inserts with the magnets on them. And it will fit perfectly, and is tight fit. And it doesn't wiggle.
question..
so i can play all my PlayStation games that's on my ps5 with the backbone $100 or $40 yr subscription, because i was planning to get my son the PlayStation portal, but i dont see it is worthy $200 just for another control. when i seen this. i was like this is perfect. it is just like the PSP
Yes, using the remote play app you can access your PS5. I found it helps if your network is robust, I have my PS5 connected via Ethernet and it works very well. You don’t need the Backbone app subscription at all for this to work. It does provide a nice UI for discovery and easy access but no needed or required for remote play since it can be accessed directly. Hope that helps.
Will it work with a galaxy A32 5G
I Wish a symetrical Version .. 😔
Doesn’t seem to work with my Speck case 😢
Someone commented that they got a larger case to work by removing the adapter on the usbc port side. Have you tried that?
How to remove the adapters ? They seem to be stuck
Magnets
Why does no one do it for androids 😭 im trying to figure out if it will do the same thing with the s21 ultra because the phone with my case is to think for the gen 1
(Not hating on you, just everyone does it for iPhone but nice video)
Probably because this is a must-have for new iPhones with USB-C. Android users already had a USB-C version and likely aren’t upgrading their Backbone.
I have the app and never needed to pay for a subscription. Been using it since it originally released. I have never been asked to pay either
You are one of the lucky ones who got in When the app was free and they grandfathered you in. Anyone who buys a Backbone One now has to pay a subscription price.
Gen Dalawa! 😂😂😂 MABUHAY!

Can it fit an iPad mini?
Sorry, don't have one to test. Maybe someone else can comment if it does.
But will it fit an iPad mini 6?
Yes
I take it this backbone version doesn't work with outerboxed?
There is a running list from BackBone in the pinned comment. It looks like the Otterbox Figura is supported. It doesn’t mean the others aren’t but they either don’t or haven’t been tested.
does it work well with benks ?
Yes, it works with all the Benks cases I’ve

@@ReyG_HKSH what about the ESR classic case with camera ring kickstand?

compare it to gamesir g8
what if you dont use anny adapters
That would work with thicker cases but then the key would be is how much case material is near the connector.
Also, $40 is still too much for an annual subscrition to a hub that doesn't do anything but be a menu to all other apps
its horrible due to the camera hump not fitting with the iPhone 15 pro max get the Gamesir G8 best of all time in every way
Will it fit my tab 9 ultra? Lol
🤣
Correction: "New backbone one only works with phones that has cases on them that are practically useless to protecting it. It doesn't work with cases that actually protect your phone."

Thank you for the support! Good luck with the YT venture, just be persistent and create what you love! 🙏
Backbone One does NOT do a good job of labeling what's second gen on the box. It's barely there. I searched for a Gen 2 and ordered off Target, but found I had a Gen 1.
Does it work with Iphone 14?
The gen 1 with lightning port will work with iPhone 14.
I am so pissed I went to get one and was sent the 1st Gen instead
No gen 2 for lightening is stupid
I would like to bring to your attention a compatibility concern with the black USB-C version of the Backbone controller. While some users have reported successful use with PlayStation Remote Play, there appears to be a general incompatibility. To ensure seamless compatibility with both PlayStation and other platforms, such as xCloud, I recommend opting for the PlayStation-branded Backbone controller. This discrepancy can lead to confusion and inconvenience for users, and addressing it would enhance customer satisfaction. Additionally, if the Backbone case is slightly too large for your device, removing the adapters may resolve the fitting issue.
Does this pertain to the second gen black or first?
sadly remote play on ps5 with 5ghz Wifi is still useless on iPhone. Terrible lag... yes I have an Orbi mesh system.
Is your PS5 connected via Ethernet or WiFi? Remote play works quite well for my with the Orbi and a wired PS5 connection.
