For me it's the way the characters became family. I saw Jack as Daniel Jackson's big brother and when Daniel died I saw their pain and could relate. I lost my younger brother(Daniel) right around that time. It really drew me in, so the part about living vicariously through the characters fits me to a T. And who wouldn't want to go on missions with their favorite SG team?

A strong cast with character and a backstory. Carter was intelligent and a good soldier without being a Mary Sue, the same for the rest of them. No black and white personalities, all in a grey area, like normal people.

Stargate doesnt tell the story about good vs evil like all other shows, but tells the story every time, about how the right thing to do can make you either good or bad or both at the same time . That is what defines stargate

My favorite aspect about Stargate is it’s world-building, Earth starts out as a primitive planet, and pathetic, but through years of hard work, dedication, exploration, and blood, humanity becomes the eventual successors of the Ancients and Asgard, powerful, and hyper-advanced, borderline invincible, and we see every stage of that, from their first failed attempt at a star fighter, to their all-powerful Battlecruisers.
If we see a new Stargate show, I’d love for it to take place in a time where the Tau’ri are much like what the Asgard were to them, or, what I’d personally love, for them to have become an oppressive regime much like the Goa’uld, xenophobic, cruel, and merciless, and for a group of heroes, new and old, to try to restore them to what they were before, caring, compassionate, and a protective force for the Milky Way Galaxy, like the Asgard before them.

The Gou'ald were complacent and it allowed them to be overthrown. I would like to see mankind, the Tau'ri, expand into its own galactic fleet like the Asgard and the Ancients, but heeding the lessons of their forebearers. Learning from the hubris that brought them low and moving forward. Not quite the Federation but a slightly lighter version of the UNSC from Halo or more militaristic than the System's Commonwealth from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda

Relatively new SG fan as of last year, but man is this series something special. Fantastic video script; made me consider some things that I hadn’t before, and you absolutely hit the nail on the head for some of these topics.
For myself, SG is just pure fun. While many of the multi-episode arcs were fantastic, I believe the series is at its best when it’s presented in bite-sized single episodes and self contained stories that are able to present a compelling story but to also not take itself too seriously. It’s campy, it’s predictable, and a lot of it is dated by modern standards, but it remains one of the most comforting and entertaining shows I’ve ever seen. There’s just a feeling of homeliness and nostalgia that you get from watching or re-watching the series that is hard to find anywhere else. It’s a series that you can pick up when you’re feeling down and instantly start feeling better again. It’s inspiring, and optimistic; it’s escapism-pure and simple. I sure hope SG gets picked up again sometime soon.

I remembered when I saw a new show coming up on cable tv back then called Stargate Atlantis. At that moment in my life I was going through some very complex moments around me, making me fell like a wanted to go out and leave everything behind. Then when I watched Sg1 team going onto a new adventure I desired in my heart to be part of such a great story, and exploring the Galaxy and the roots of mankind itself. For me Stargate represents Hope, the type of hope you find even if you are going through some crazy and dark moments in your life and yet you find always a way out and grow a long the Way as a person. I wish I had the chance to go through the Stargate and explore those worlds myself. And now I am rewatching this show with my wife for the second time and I can't describe how awesome is to feel this variety of emotions with my partner who I never thought she could fell in Love with this show as much as I was and still I am to this very day. also a little bit too much drama about the characters is a little outside the boundaries of Stargate honestly. But the reasons you state in the video pretty much describe it. I think a lot of us fans love other science fiction shows and books too, and we each love those for their own unique blend of things. The Stargate franchise gives us this wonderful, grounded look into science fiction from our present day. Increasingly, we are living in a science fiction world. Heck, Houston is getting a "spaceport" now. But I would love to see a fourth new Stargate series, now that Amazon has bought MGM. Both existing characters and situations, and new ones, we can get a lot from a new Stargate. There's still amazing story potential out there.

Stargste had a bit of everything, in a balanced way. Character development, a continuous storyline. Something you do not see that often.
Humour. Nothing was forced, Everything fit.

I like the science-based stories and the action episodes, as well as the philosophical/moral topics that are presented. What makes Stargate what it is, is the range of stories, the character writing, that it's set in present day, and that we can escape to another world without it seeming far fetched, everything always feels real.

I love the fact that many Sci-Fi shows and movies are just like "Yeah, we destroyed our planet and have nowhere to live and cuz we're selfish we now go destroy someone else's." but Stargate is hope - you said it perfectly! It shows that even thou most people hate it here, this is our place and we still should fight for it. I appreciate this aspect of Stargate very much

I love ancient mythology as it gives a second, cultural layer of the stories. Stargate was always a mix of action, comedy, fantasy and scifi, but I have loved the fact it could show us a possible past as aliens could have visited us. Other shows talk about possible future, while I have felt the Stargate franchise has rather talked about how this possible heritage could influence our present.

Personally I started when SG1 moved to SciFi because it had RDA. I stuck around for the fantastic storytelling and camaraderie amongst the characters. I still today enjoy so many episodes and always felt SG is at its best when focused on exploration. SGA will always be one of my favorite shows because it felt like such an extension of SG1. Similar storytelling but with a slightly darker tone. I do however still struggle to achieve full buy-in on SGU. It did produce some of my top SG episodes but I think my biggest hurdle to fully embracing it lies in the unnecessary inclusion of so many “Soap Opera” plots. I too am looking to the future hopeful that it includes more SG for all of us.

It made us dream, has a message and fantastic characters played by very talente actors, all of them. Maybe somewhere în the galaxy this îs happening, anyway, it makes me check the night sky from time to time. Thank you, Stargate Sg1, and of course I would love The Stargate franchise to continue.

Stargate is one of the best shows ever. It deserves a high-budget follow-up show and brings it to, or surpass the current TV offerings, like Shadow and Bone, The new Startrek series, or even GoT. I would love to see what the showrunners could do if allowed to produce a show of that caliber.

And I don’t necessarily like how they continued it in comic form. The splintered descendants of the time displaced Destiny crew board the ship shortly after Eli put everyone else into hibernation and took control of the ship. That’s all I really know because I didn’t read it due to being so disappointed with how it sounded.

Really great video, and I most definitely agree with your views.
It would really great if you did a video about the best characters, either from the entire franchise or separate from the individual shows.
For me, my favourite character is doc. Daniel Jackson, quite simply because he manages to:
    A. decipher the symbols on the stargate device as star constellations how it works.
    B. starts out as a guy viewed as outlandish and ridiculed by his fellow scientist because of his theories on subjects like the egyptian pyramids being alien in origin; yet is proven right in the 1994 Stargate movie where he along with a team travel to the planet Abydos.
    C. Discovers how the various cultures, mythologies and religions on Earth is connected with each other in various ways, as well with other cultures and alien species (like the egyptians being connected to the Goa'uld, the Asgard being connected with Norse mythology, and the Ancients/Alterans being connected to greek and latin mythologies).
    D. deciphers especially the written but also sometimes oral languages, like say, the Ancient texts on various subjects to be used in a number ways.
    E. goes from being somewhat underrated and nerdy before the events of the first movie, then evolves into a rounded character and acknowledged because of the points made above.
I dare say that such a person is crucial to the kind of exploration done by SG1.

Stargate is life!! Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are the greatest sci-fi series ever created, in my humble opinion. I've binge watched both of these series countless times and have them on DVD. I just wished that they never ended, as there is still so much potential to make the franchises even larger. Still love how they intertwined with each other. Still miss my sci-fi family. I've watched Stargate Origins once and to me it did have a familiar feeling to the aforementioned other franchises that I loved. To me, it was a viable backstory that explained some things and I welcomed it with open arms. I've watched Stargate Universe once as well, but I didn't really like it as much. It didn't grab that feeling out of me like the previous series. I don't know. I may have to watch it again and maybe it might eventually grow on me. One part that I did like about Stargate Universe, was that an actual schoolmate of mine, Daren Herbert, was featured in one of their episodes. Kudos Homie and keep lighting the screen up! I hope that one day Stargate will be revamped and the characters that we have grown to love and cherish are part of its rebirth!!! Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

But most importantly because of my love of adventure and history combined as one of the first books i ever remember learning how to read was about pompeii which led me to grow to love history then when i discovered syfy iv always fell in love with shows that combine both those aspects . I too hope that someday stargate is not so much remade but continued after nothing can replace the journey we've been on

To me, it's boiled down to one of the best plot devices ever invented for entertainment. Once the television producers made the Stargate something that can travel to almost any world, they had a literary device to tell stories with that was boundless. A brilliant creation that could be misused for sure. But when appropriately utilized it rivals any story telling device in human history. Not bad!
