- Is Stargate dead? MGM seems to think so, shutting down the already crappy Stargate streaming service and moving to RUclips is the final sign that there is NO immediate future for new Stargate.

Most Stargate fans have stocked up physicals years ago, so why would anyone pay for a streaming service when you can just pop in your DVD for free?
Well said :)
putting out SG-1 on Blu-Ray would be welcome - pretty much all the other series are available, just not SG-1 that I can find. I love my DVD's (I have SG-1 and Atlantis complete DVD sets) but the quality is a little lacking.
@@STELLVIA. doing an HD Master of SG-1 would be fantastic. I have the Blu-Ray version of the original movie, and it looks damn good - and that's not even 4K.
We are kinda lazy. No, don't get mad its not an insult.
I have all but one box of farscape, all of Babylon 5, lots of movies, anime and shows on DVD...but if I could simply boot up my 360 to watch them on there without having to get out of bed (my room is cold a lot, its the UK and heating costs lol) I probably would do it.
My father is the same. We have every episode of last of the summer wine on DVD. But he prefers to watch them on sky because he does not like getting up to swap the DVDs. (Tho the cost is biting right now lol)
When those of us with physical copies can no longer get the stuff streamed, THEN we will go to our DVD collection lol.
(Plus my 360 is so LOUD when it runs a DVD or game. Silent drives that make no noise in DVD players ftw)
That's exactly what i was thinking. Wtf. I have multiple copies. I can watch the whole thing whenever I want AND without ads.
Man, I didn't know that Joe Flanigan had gone to such efforts to give us a conclusion to Atlantis. Good on him for rounding up the funds to at least make an attempt.
Atlantis had a conclusion (they went home to earth)
.
And the Wraith are still stuck in the distant galaxy (as they’ve been stuck for the last 10,000 years)
I’m ashamed to say that I remember and was excited when I heard about Joe Flanagan’s efforts, I just assumed they had screwed him over and that was it, game over. It really infuriated me when Atlantis was canceled... I even endured Universe, for as long as I could stand it, but I’m sorry, it just didn’t flow. It’s a shame they didn’t let Joe take it over, as he was one of the best actor/characters of the entire franchise, a series I watched from it’s beginning on Showtime! You guys keep going with this crusade, as I’m sure there are other fools out there, like me, who pays membership in all five of these streaming services, who would drop a couple in return for a chance to step through the Gate again...Good luck and may a curse continue to follow MGM for their lies and ignorance!
I always wondered most: The Ancients cant be that arrogant that they supress all
other races that ascend, right?!?!
Make them bow to THEIR rules, right?
Sure, they can for themselves decide they dont want to interfere, but they cant keep

What happens to other Races that reach the higher planes of Existence?!?
If you get what i mean!
This is my greatest question about this Franchise!!
No kidding!
If you immediately know the candlelight is fire then the meal was cooked a long time ago.
Lol nice...
Exactly, I always thought that quote from Oma was gibberish, until I realized it means dont judge a book by its cover. Meaning if you already have a preconception of something, you mind has already been made and there is no convincing you otherwise.
@@xeeen0 ah very nice. For me that quote always made me think that the journey is more important in life, or anuthing for that matter. If you already know the outcome of something, that it is fire, then you would gave already have to have experienced and learned everything leading up to that point. So for her metaphor; you have to have experimemted with fore enough before you can fully and immediately know the element before you is fire, and that it can be used to create a meal. I always thought of this as a metaphor for ascension as well, and that the journey is more important. Especially when Daniel ascends and she tells him that there are no shortcuts; same with fire leading to the knowledge of its result.
Not sure. But in my head this all clicks; im juat not the best at exressing in words what is in my head.

be careful what you wish for. buying a franchise isn't as easy as it sounds. often parts of it are owned by other people. character designs, music, whole characters, and concepts. people who might ask for royalties. even if that isn't the case and MGM owns it for 100% then any new owner will likely reboot the whole thing and make their own version of Stargate that ignores what came before.simply to avoid any potential legal problems with past creators.

I can’t believe MGM haven’t realised how much demand there is for more stargate. One day someone without their head up their backside might realise what a huge property they have

Firefly really was good, one of the best sci-fi.
Umm, as good as Firefly it was no Stargate SG1. There wouldn't even be a Firefly without SG1. SG1 started in 1997! Firefly got 1 season, yes it could have lasted longer but it was no Stargate SG1 or Antlantis. I will give you that it was better than Universe, a poor rippoff to a poor reboot of Galactica. A textbook lesson in failed management by slaughtering the goose that lays golden eggs for dinner.
MGM never had any respect for Stargate despite it being one of their most profitable franchise at the time.
Already, when they cancelled Atlantis to start SGU despite Atlantis having great ratings at the time. They didn't listen to the fans and Mallozzi later said on his blog that the producers were ordered by MGM to make a more edgy show similar to BSG that had just ended. MGM cared not that the fans loved the franchise for its campy atmosphere and humor and didn't want a dark edgy depressing show. Just sell the franchise to Netflix or Amazon already.

Netflix should honestly take over with the same crew that made SG1 and Atlantis.
How about this: All Stargate fans should boycott all future MGM productions until such a time they either go bankrupt, greenlight the continuation of Atlantis and Universe, or sell them to another network.
Yes, Universe did get a lot of negativity, however that was mainly from the first season. Things got a lot better in the second.
the franchises who would buy them would probably make things worse
"After the end of Stargate Universe..."

That were your thoughts too?
Stargate SG1 and Atlantis had their "endings". And what is about Universe?
Yes Universe was not so good at the beginning, but in season 2 it really cought me.
If Univerese had an "ending", then it was the greatest NOT-HAVE-A-ENDING-ending i have ever seen!

I genuinely believe that Stargate could've been a juggernaut up there with Trek and Wars. Hell, I used to think it was. It depresses me what's become of my favorite scifi property.
I agree, but I would say properties.
At least when i was a kid it was up there with both of those. And the advantage that series has on the other two is that it is about humans becoming a major player in the galaxy. Oh and it is pretty grounded for such a long running science fiction tv show
I’m glad I taped every episode and every film, it will never age and the jokes will never cease... long life SG 👍🏼
Marc’s Fx well to be fair...the only “aging” would be the technology examples in the first few sg1 seasons...aside from that...very much agreed :)
*didn't even know there was a streaming service for Stargate
They should have let Joe Flanigan buy the rights....but oh well i have it all on my hdd.
If the Expanse can be saved, so can Stargate.
Amazon... Are you there??
amazon streams some but have been locked out of others. Like Atlantis... watch 3 seasons and the last 2 are unavailable.
They did it with a airplane that had a huge commercial banner on its back, circleing jeff bezos office. It does seem to work. Do it!
The difference here is to corporate types, another show in the same genre would be seen as competition so it seems likely they won't be interested except to maybe sit on it for a decade or so to bring out after they retire the expanse. The only real hope seems to be Netflix.

@@Mirpurmad yeah thats what he meant. i mean its fine when its done in a good way like the orivil did with bortises child since it showed both sides of the debate and let us come to a decision ourselves without acting like one side was morally evil and the other was pure good. but when they do shit like doctor who does and just attack men for no reason at all while acting like woman are the greatest things in the world and would rule the world already if men stopped oppressing them it ruins the entire show. sadly the doctor who style of being woke is far far far more common then the orivil style of being woke. and ironically enough the orivils style of being woke is alot like the old star trek style whilst the new star trek is more like the doctor who style.

Sexism is sexism, regardless of sex. I have no patience for it and I have no desire to have such intolerant attitudes crammed down my throat each week. What I want is great stories and great character development. Never once did I complaint about the color or sex of any of the Stargate cast, to be honest, I didn't care. The concept that sex and color didn't matter was something I saw as a positive in many of the SciFi shows in the past; sadly that concept is now a thing of the past.
Your right!!!
Let's just sell it to Amazon. They did a great job with The Expanse and I can imagine that they would make the best of this franchise!
All the more reason for Netflix to snap it up! On the other hand, if the other "Big 3" broadcasters each have a Sci-Fi franchise, perhaps Comcast/NBC should do THIS one! ABC/Disney has Star Wars, and CBS has Star Trek . . .

Over 2 years of filling out the show suggestion form and THIS GEM is finally back on Netflix!!!!!
The problem with all streaming services, is that they know most people sign up and kind of forget about it, and keep paying each month regardless of how much they use it. So they don't care about their actual customers, it's all about bringing in new customers.
I believe Netflix basically admitted as much when asked about certain original series being cancelled. Season 3 of this isn't going to attract new customers if the first two didn't do the job, so it's not worth the expense.
"But there is hope. With MGM poised to fail, there is the possibility that they will be forced to merge..." LOL!!!
Expect a Hedge fund dismantling rather than a merge.
Sell, merge, lose rights it hardly matters at this point. Someone is bound to get it in order to use it since other known science fiction franchses are hiting the ground. DW, ST and SW are on the decline SG is mostly left untouched by the virus that degrates all franchises.
That's not how executives thinks. "Other sci-fi franchises aren't performing well let's not take a gamble on this." Not bothering to look into them far enough to realize that they're just being used by people who couldn't make good content to save their lives.

Well they are not smart otherwise comics and animation in USA would not be in such a shape. Until one of them relises how the whole thing actualy works they will not make money.
Merge? With whom? MGM's been owned by Warner Brothers for years.
This is what happens when accountants manage a business.
I just wish they would finish Stargate universe instead of leaving us hanging like they did
The tiny thing that still gives me a bit of hope is knowing that the way it ended could allow for them to finish it (it will never happen, I know) even in years from now.
Eli is older, he spent years awake in the ship trying to fix the situation. He noticed something was wrong with the others, and decides to wake them up. Some died in the pods (the actors who would not wanna come back), and all of them grew older instead of being preserved perfectly. In the meantime the Earth has a found a way to reach Destiny again, sending some supplies and a few new crewmembers (to replace the missing actors). And here we go !

Yes, a continuation of SGU and maybe start a new chapter with Atlantis.
Stargate will live on in our hearts and minds...
Indeed. 😢
As much as I like Stargate SG1, the fact of the matter is they really have no where else to go with it. It seems to me they've tapped out all known archaeology for lore to keep the theme of it going. I mean I had to stop watching when they started that Ori stuff because it just felt too thematically different. Atlantis is really popular, but I personally thought it too was beyond the scope of the original premise. If it's going to come back, it'll have to go through the dreaded reboot, and personally I'd rather the show just stand on what it is now.

So what you're saying is Stargate at MGM is stuck in a similar situation that Babylon 5 is in at Warner Bros. Studios. Figures.
Yes exactly! You got it :)
That is very frustrating. In Babylon 5's case it got screwed on all three attempts to continue it with a spin off (TNT sabotaged Crusade, the Sci Fi Channel aired Legend of the Rangers against the NFL playoffs, and Warner Bros decided to be super cheap with The Lost Tales despite the success of the initial DVD). Stargate is a proven hit and MGM is just sitting on it?!

@@dalethelander3781 First of all MGM is owned by Warner Bros.... You may want to check your source before making a very wrong statement. Second of all when J. He still wanted to tell more in that world and got screwed over each time.

314 episodes at say 2 episodes a day. 157 days. Throw in some days off and we can round it up to half a year.
I always say this to people. The 90’s were the best decade for TV no mater what type of TV you liked. But especially Sci-Fi. You had alien nation that gave birth to the fox network. You had Star Trek at one point all of the Star Trek shows. Farscape debuted in 1999, you had earth final conflict, you had Stargate, I can keep going. But it seems that with all the reboots happening this is a decade and a genre surprisingly they wanna forget. And it’s sad because it was the best TV.
You're so right.

This is really mind blowing. I just checked the Epix home page. They seem to have almost the entire MGM library. But not Stargate. Why not fold the Stargate stuff in, pull their content from all the other services. A service that provides all the Bond films, all the classic MGM films, all the rest of the MGM library, Stargate and original content advertised as something clearly MGM not some lame cable channel no one watched would make money. Maybe not Disney money but enough to turn a real profit.
