- We take a look at the new X900 amplifier from Darkglass and give a detailed explanation on the low pass and high pass controls.
DISCLAIMER: In the video, I mention the clean compressor is for the low band when in reality, it’s a full band compressor.

In blue mode it's a full range compressor when the distortion is off, not just the low end. Best feature of the pedal!
You are correct. My mistake.
Thank you for explaining the HP and LP filters. Best explanation of this I have found! I have the X pedal. The sound I have been going for is what you have here at 6:28 but couldn’t quite dial it in. Thanks for sharing! 🔥🎶😎
Awesome demo 😎🤘🏻🎸 it’s pretty cool that darkglass released a bass head equivalent of their x series pedals. The clean tones sounds nice and the distortion channel sounds killer.
Thank You!!
I saw Eve 6 recently and Max Collins was rocking this amp.
The X circuit is my favorite too, I bought the alpha omega and sent it back had a very industrial sound which is cool just not what I’m going for
To my ears, this is the best Darkglass circuit.
Damn shes a beauty 😍
hey man hope your day is going well. I don't know if anyone has told you but you are sounding so much better now in comparison to when you guys first started the channel.
Can you bias the spreaker outs as far as low vs hi like an svt 4 pro
I've got the X7 pedal and the AO900. I think I can achieve the tones this amp can make and more.
Ok
I want to run this in conjunction with my mt 900 amp in a stereo bass setup. I have a tone sculpture fetish and would bass boost it w/ my 3 channel sansamp
I have the same LP Jr bass (LOVE IT!) and my cover band was also doing Psycho Killer 😂
Putting tapes on it was a revelation
I like the design philosophy, I wish they applied it to their other drive circuits, imagine the vintage or alpha with the moveable cutoff points
Are you able to get crystal clear tones as well?
When you say unprocessed, in regards to leaving a gap in between the hpf and lpf, do those frequencies still actually come through audibly
No, it's not that they come through unprocessed in that they are filtered out.
It's a great amp- and really versatile. I use it as a live head with both bass and -with my keyboard rig (not at the same time) I have also combined it with the Earthquaker Devices Sunn Life Metal pedal and have been getting some amazing results. The compressor on this pedal is superb for all of the live and studio needs. Great video!
Is Josh gonna do a Beast and the Harlot bass cover..? Maybe a City of Evil album cover?? Totally took me by surprise when I heard him playing it.
Signal chain in the demo at 13:44? Mean ass tone for sure. I see the settings on the pedal, but does the chain go anywhere else from there? Also... Cab sim? Thanks!
That tone is 100% what you see. Bass to pedal, DI out to Logic Pro X. No post processing. Cab sim engaged and I BELIEVE it’s the DG410 with Beta 52. That’s generally my go-to.
@@TheBassChannel Love it! Thanks a lot, man! :) Here is something I made with the X7 with no cab sim just to see how it sounded on its own. I will be messing with some tones soon! ruclips.net/video/-CthfawHc3s/видео.html
You need the “Wurdz is Hard” stinger ;)
♡
My favorite Darkglass pedal is the Vintage Ultra. Unfortunately, as far as I know they don't make that circuit in amp form. I could be wrong. I know they make an amp with the Vintage Microtubes circuit, but I believe that's different. I can't find a clear explanation of the different Darkglass circuits. But if they ever make that pedal in amp form, I'll buy it.
The M900 has a Vintage circuit built in alongside the B3K
Check out the Microtubes 200/500/900 series of amplifiers!
The Vintage Microtubes circuit is the same in the Vintage Microtubes, Vintage Deluxe, Vintage Ultra, Microtubes Infinity, and on the Microtubes 200/500/900 V1/2 (As the 'VMT' overdrive mode). The only difference, is that the basic Vintage Microtubes (as well as older versions of the Vintage Deluxe and the Microtubes Infinity) have an "ERA" knob, which later Deluxe models, and the Ultras do not. The Microtubes 900 V1/2s have a tone knob, but I believe it is the version from the B3k circuit rather than the true ERA knob. The ERA knob is more of a frequency sweep than a typical tone knob, but otherwise acts similarly.
Darkglass has the Microtubes B#k, Vintage Microtubes, and Alpha-Omega series' of overdrives. Each series has a standard, deluxe, and ultra version, as well as an accompanying amp. The Microtubes X series is a crossover distortion circuit based on the drive circuitry of the B#k series, although in the Microtubes Infinity pedal, you are able to access the Vintage circuit in multiband mode as well. You can also access a multiband version of the Alpha-Omega circuit on the Alpha Omega Photon pedal.
Darkglass has a few other pedals such as the A.D.A.M. and Duality fuzz, but they are only singular pedals, and not available in multiple sizes (as of me writing this).
I hope this helped clear things up. Happy amp hunting!
@@thelumpylobsterit is not in the 200. There is only the b3k in it.
@@francoishtzl157 Good catch! I stand corrected.
@@thelumpylobster but as you say the other have it (but I know it is a bit different in each iteration. Darkglass say with the technology that evolve they change components sometime and it can change a bit the sound)
Hey, Chris! Quick question: Have you tried the Microtubes X pedal? Would like to hear your opinion on it.
I haven’t tried the smallest version. However, I can only imagine it has that same phenomenon of the B3K, VMT, and Alpha Omicron where the drive likely sounds more punchy. The thing that makes me a bit less interested in it is the lack of some of the controls of the Ultra version. I find myself using every knob on it often. However, I’m open to being proven wrong about the little one.
@@TheBassChannel You're probably right about that. I think it’s time for me to try one of the Ultras. For me, the B3K sounds too scooped, and the VMT too mid-forward. I (mostly) like my Omicron, but there's still room for improvement. Haven't had a chance to try the smallest version of the X. Seen a lot of reviews, though - which has left me undecided. Thanks for getting back to me, Chris.👍
14:41 - Xplanation?
What pickups does the Squier bronco have?
SAX with just a Vol/Tone.
What’s the main difference between owning a Darkglass pedal vs the amp?
Around 1000$
It just feels like there's no mid-range in any of the tones, even when they are raised in the EQ. None of the sounds are airy or open. They are all quite nasaly, regardless of the bass and pickup config.
That’s just the darkglass sound lol. They all sound that way other than the vintage micro tubes
Are you saying that based on the video, or personal experience? Coz I can tell you first of all, DG products don't "lack mids" despite what people think based off YT videos. Second, the DG "sound" is exactly what's needed to be heard in a dense metal mix.
@@EvilBlakey that's the issue. They target a modern metal sound. My impression is from every video that showcases DG products
Couldn't make the X pedal work with my stingray, sounded really spiky and unpleasant in the high end. Interested to try the amp though
Sansamp bassDI v2 sounds very nice, Para Driver too.
Sounds like your cab isn’t attenuating the high end the same way most do?
@@JoeJoelyeah, most times people blame the head or bass and disregard the cab
"the pedal didn't work well with my Stingray, so i will try buying the amp that uses the same circuit and expect different results" ...
@@plamenmilanov3009 maybe he's rich?
Another comment lol. Bass at 11:26 is awesome. Is that a strat pickup?
That’s our “Shillcaster”. We constantly get accused of shilling for companies so we decided to load it up with stickers and charge each company $2,000 per month for the advertisement to live up to the accusation.
The second half of that statement is obviously untrue but the thought still amuses me. Anyway, the bass is a Squier Bronco equipped with an EMG SAX and Labella black tapes.
Fuck yea Dave! Psycho killer sounded deep!😊
Turn up the basses
What song is at 6:28 that shits 🔥
See Chris does play with his fingers sometimes! 😂
Sometimes. I just struggle with consistency between the two. Of all the people involved in the channel, I think I might be the best pick player so I don’t mind representing the pick players out there and letting the other guys play fingers.
What was the song in 8:05🤤
Disapyramid- Lunar Satan
Hopefully it wont just stop working when you pick it up like the three Darkglass 900's I had before I gave up on their product. Andnow that KORG owns them in sure the quality will wayyyyy down.
So I should def replace my microtubes 500v2...
Edit: yeah I bought one lol
Edit 2: Yes. Its awesome. Murders my 500 v2.
I’m upgrading my Microtubes v2 500 to this because of this comment 😂
@@moriyokiri3229 Niiice. Glad I could help lololll. I think you will be pleased. Both are great amps, but the X 900 distortion circuit is more pleasing to me.
He, hehe, "X-planation" hehe
You have your LPF mixed up... Low Pass means that the lows pass through unaffected by the compressor.
