This weeks video is a review, try out and comparison of the cheap Faber Castell colored pencils. I will go in depth and talk about the differences between these and the more expensive version and which one I would recommend :)

Hello everyone, I understand that to some people the word “cheap” is misleading, or that for a certain budget even the more affordable brands are expensive. Please understand that the video is about the relative difference in price and quality between two different products of the same brand. The video is not trying to give budget advice. Feel free to use whatever materials works best for you. I am simply comparing these two products. Thank you for understanding.

"They are not that well made. They feel cheap." ! ! ! Not the same thing. At all ! - Faber-Castell are very well made. Beutifull paintwork, nice center of the core.
And they are not cheap, in many contries you can buy other colour pencils for 1/3 or even 1/4 of the price. ..... The red Faber-Castell colour pencils are my most expensive ones.

Yeah....
All Fabre Castell pencils are made with the same pigment. The red packaging is there base set with the least pigment , the blue packaging are student grade and the green tins/packaging are artist grade, meaning they have the most pigment. To say “cheap” is in my opinion misleading. I start all my students on the red pack and as they can or want they can add to their collection with whatever level of price they are comfortable with. I am a full time artist of over 20 years and I very much enjoy all of the Fabre Castell line. I find you can actually get very fine details with the starter range (red packaging) and they layer very well, you just have to do a few more layers.
I see someone who understand this i use these doms Pencils tin one it have 29 in total pencils in them they are like of $2?
Still don't know if they are student grade or base...Can you look at my video and tell me.

I use cheap supplies for now cuz i m artist from2 years. When i get kinda pro then later i will buy something expensive

@@mnamdari1523 .yes, of course you can. Just add light layers until you achieve the depth you want. You can get nice results ,it just takes a bit more work.

you don't need to press it harder to get it darker, just gently stroke it again and again until it gets darker or you have to do the basic dark to light use "Black, dark green, green, and yellow green" colors and its stiff cause it has anti-break... its not like Polychromos that if you press it harder you can get that darker color...

If you press you flatten the tooth of the paper and thereby burnishing it.they you wont be able zo add many layers. Always keep it light with the pressure, just layer.

4 euros for 12.. I wouldn't recommend this when you can buy 60 pencils for around 12 euros. And that is the Faber castell Classic, which are a lot better.
I found those in a local art store. I did not see the 60 pack for 12 euros. Can you tell me where you found it?
You can get Faber Castell Classics online for £11 here. I found it online, and its Also at Cass Art in the UK. On my trip in France, i saw it for i think 14 euros.

I have too much cheap art supply that makes me almost think twice to buy the expensive one. I should used my own until it breaks before buy the expensive one. I have classic Faber Castle 48 pieces and that's not cheap at all.

I used to hate Crayola in the 90s when my kids were little. So much that I refused to buy them. Something happened since then to where I feel they actually improved in quality, they actually have better centered cores than Prismacolor and they break less than Prismacolor. Now I have a set of Crayolas and I recently got a set of red FC triangular grip pencils 24 set for scetchbook or on the go.
Who would have known.

I have the same pencils, but in a set of 48. It's super cheap in my country, converted to around 4 euros. I can layer around twice to thrice with them, and they blend pretty well. I have the same issues with the pencils crumbling and smearing here and there. Also, the tips of certain shades break often after sharpening. But they're good pencils for a practice. Besides, the drawings end up looking really vibrant and smooth if these are used properly.

You can simply make your own chart. I don’t think there is one from the company

They're both great. Faber-Castell coloured pencils are really good quality even with the 'cheap' ones.
The ones in the picture on your thumbnail are not the same as the cheap ones you reviewed. The ecopencils and classic colour are quite different. The hexagonal classic colour pencils are far superior. They aren’t nearly the same as polychromos, but they’re good. I would say (art)student grade rather than children’s grade. I think you’d really like them. :)

Yes, that's how it is. The classic or the watercolor one which usually comes in 24/48 sets are good in quality in comparison with the eco friendly one.

Thank you sooo much for this video! Because you say the cheap ones I knew exactly what you talking about. I just got home from Walmart and that is what they had for 13.99 for 12 pencils. I just bought some of the Faber Castell polychromos for 20.00 for 12 pencils off the internet. I was hoping I could find someone to say what the difference was and here you are. Now I am wondering is the cheap Faber Castell better or worse that the less expensive Prismacolor colored pencils. Which do you think is superior? Also what are the Faber Castell Gold pencils? Sorry I am just really confused. Thanks
I heard that the prismacolors are very good. I wanna try them out and compare them to the Fabre castell as well as the luminance that I own.
For my opinion some color pencils are might cheap and expensive but it depends on who uses it and...depends on the budget..

Exactly. If you are good, it really doesn't matter until you are a professional in the field.. you can make a really really good drawing even with the worst pencils
I only have the poly chromos still trnya figure out skin tones it's different from the prismacolors

I know I feel like idk, just like when other people don’t like what you love it just hurts because you make an amazing connection with the product and people criticize it so you feel like they criticize you for your liking but I really love these and it makes me sad that people don’t like it 😪

Just because some can't afford it doesn't mean that those aren't the cheapest version.
i have used both classic and polychromos and in all honesty, the difference is there but for the price point classics win easily.

what is the cost of the colours
I was disappointed, they looked liked craola on my first try. Maybe I'll try again later, hopefully it will look different.
the only problem with the cheap ones is they are meant for kids in school and not for yt artists or any artists for that matter.
I wont really agree with you, but yes the target demographic of the the pencils are for kids. It is not really meant for traditional work, but it works really well when it comes to coloring. There is a youtube artist who makes use of this pencils for art, he is seiji senpai.😅😅

With due respect, It's all about artist I saw pretty great art work with that pencil that you call cheap and hope you know that half of us can't even afford even the luxury ones you use.
I have the 24 pack of some I got for 14 dollars ngl I am disappointed they just don't color that well. I wanna get the expensive ones in the near future

I wish I could try these, but they are just a children's type pencil and the cheapest price I can find is too much to pay for what is basically a toy.

I bought these pencils yesterday and used them and I love them! Love them more than crayola. You can layer them from light to dark and blend them out with the same pencil, I didn’t need to press down. They are my new favourite for sure and super affordable.
She never called you a peasant,but stated in her opinion the pencils were cheap based on her budget.She may be so used to using expensive items that maybe she just doesn't know how to work with cheaper ones.She meant nothing personal though and I didn't feel like she was bad mouthing.

faber castel has a factory in Brazil where i live so it's not that expensive, i think the price depends on the country🤔

Not trying to influence nor telling you how to colour. That said, you are not fully utilizing the Polychromos pencils to showcase its full effect. If the end result doesn't shine like its oiled or waxy than you are not using it right.

Thanks for this review. Its a relief that you have a good review for the type we can afford. Just small request, and hope you dont mind, to say less expensive rather than cheap.. in this way, we budgeted artists would not feel more sorry for ourselves... but rather be more inspired to pursue art despite limited choices of materials, and inspired to do artwork like your nice art pieces. 😊
It costs around 3.5k in Egypt put it isn't hard to get it
classic or the CHEAP are in a variety of 160 pencil set the polychromos are less

hi! well... i do have both. I Got the classic ones just a few days ago; which means i still can't see the differences between'em. But the only thing i noticed about the classic colors is that they're much easier to blend compared to the regular ones.
I bought some of the cheap ones - they were great until they needed sharpening but then they just kept breaking and had to be thrown away.
and they fading so fast..

Comparings apples with oranges. This is a student grade. It is waxed based. Polychromos are oil based and professional grade.
The Red line is used in K-12 in German school.
Students in Art schhool use the Golfaber blue line and the Green Polychromos line

Fabric castle is my fav one because even 50 colour skecth for only 200!!!! It8 like magic because even an 12 colour 200 so many brands say so I love fabric castle band the quality is unique

I know artists who can use FCCCP excellently though, their outputs are better than those who are using polychromos. The quality is still in the artist.

For some it’s cheap but for children and many of us find colors are brilliant while we can use them and afford them....I like Faber Castell from childhood and her Cheap are still very precious for me. I use Polychromos but love classic and triangular of FC so please don’t say Cheap...sounds cheap when you call it again and again 🖊 ✏️

Also careful with your mic distance, at some moments you sounded too loud or distorted. Try to keep a fixed distance from your mic when talking.
Honestly the cheap ones look like trash and you said they crumble and smear. So overall they're garbage. But then again you get what you paid for. Can't see spending 2€ per pencil for kids or just for coloring as a hobby for fun once a week. So I guess the cheap ones are decent enough for schoolwork and people who draw relatively rarely for fun.
But no, I can tell the difference even from this video at a distance. :P
