Slade being the Anti-Batman makes sense they are both equally skilled and have a relationship with Dick Grayson. People forget that Deathstroke is mostly a Nightwing villain.
If that had happened, I imagine it would've been like their battle in Arkham Origins (and bear in mind, when Batman fought Slade then, he was in his Second Year as Batman and wasn't as experienced as he would be by Arkham Asylum.)
Slade/Deathstroke in the Teen Titans show was just a perfect antagonist ! Manipulative, more than competent and intelligente, a true control-freak... I really liked your last comparison with Batman, especially with that Robin quote.
I know it wasn't the intention, but I always like to think TT Slade is an older version of the one in Beware the Batman (also co-created by Glen Murakami). In that show, he considered Alfred to be a father figure and he blames Bruce for "stealing" him away. Years later, he recovers his memory, is older and wiser, and would get revenge by "stealing" Bruce's son away from him.
Teen Titan's Slade was fresh in my mind when I played Batman: Arkham Origins, and I got to the "Deathstroke" boss battle. The way Batman addressed him as "SLADE." really gave me chills, and made me imagine a version of Teen Titans in the Arkhamverse and that Slade's initial obsession with Robin might've had something to do with how Batman was the one man who defeated him. Like breaking Batman's apprentice was his way of getting revenge.
Slade as an anti-Batman was a great idea plus Slade/Deathstroke was trained by Ras Al-Ghoul/the League of Assassins like Batman. Unlike Bruce Slade wanted to take over the League so having a group of young heroes makes sense for him. With his own team he could take over the League of Assassins & then presumably take out the Justice League. I still don't get why in-universe when Trigon came to Earth the Justice League didn't intervene. Trigon is one of the most powerful beings in DC, even stronger than Superman & supposedly Darkseid, so the Justice League would definitely intervene
@@MILDMONSTER1234 not officially but Ra's did want Bruce to take over & Bruce was definitely interested in his daughter. Also they are kind of family thru Damian though not thru consensual manners
I think I’d headcanon it that Slade’s Teen Titans iteration is obsessed with being a parent. Knowing that Jericho is a canon character who is a hero, it could be that the titans are who inspired this in him, leading him to reject his father. Slade therefore blames the Titans for taking his son, so he targets their leader, someone who also has a lot of traits with him, to replace the son “they took from him.” Follow that up with Tera, someone who the titans were taking under their wing and inspiring, like his son, who is also a very lonely person, similar to Slade, and based on where we first see Jericho, his son as well. He attempts to make her a child who will never abandon him and still fails. Enter Trigon, who himself is a father trying to keep their child the way they want. Slade can relate to that and the deal they made is seemingly to revive his last child, who perished because of his actions (at least I always interpreted Tera’s revival as Trigon’s doing and that it was part of the deal they made).
Bane is the actual anti batman. Slade and Batmans comparisons have always seemed surface level to me while Bane and Bruces backstories are directly compared
I always kind of of thought the Red Hood was more of an anti Batman both have traumatic backstories both hate the Joker but he literally is the opposite version of Batman cuz he wants to kill villains while Batman wants to just send him to jail
I know glen murakami stated he intentionally didnt want to give slade a backstory bc that would make him sympathetic and he didnt want that, but my headcanon for this slade’s backstory is that batman maybe was the cause of his first son’s death (probably unintentionally) so slade decided to use batman’s adopted son as a stand-in. I know you said in the original it was kinda the titan’s fault for grant’s death, but if batman was the cause, then you can still have the continuity of the titan’s never meeting slade in the beginning but him still having a vendetta against them by association. You can kinda see how slade is trying to replicate his family through the apprentices he collects, dick as grant and terra as rose
This gets you a substitute from me. Eager for your research of Haunted. Funny, that in a way, Teen Titans foreshadowed an important plot point in Batman Arkham Knight with The Joker hallucination.
22:05: I hate to be a weirdo but Ron's voice was music to my ears. All these guys did is make me fall in love with it. Too bad the man is reaching his eighties.
I've only seen bits and pieces of this animated series so I'm not sure how old the characters were meant to be but they are definitely drawn looking a lot younger than the originals from the comics in the era the Terra storyline came from. In the comics, except for Gar, the New Teen Titans "kids" were at least college age, and that was part of the key plot at the beginning that they had aged out of being teen side kicks at 18 and 19+ and were restarting the team on their own terms as young adults after having disbanded for a time. I don't remember if Terra's age was given when she was added later on but she could have been a barely legal 18. Her relationship with Slade is still plenty creepy but at least he may not have legally been a pedo in the comics. Really glad with the way they drew her in this series that they dropped that element of their relationship.
Even if Terra, in the original comics, was the one who actually wanted the relationship, Slade, being an adult, is still the one who should say no. Him being "worried" about her turning on him doesn't mean much when the dude has fought the justice league 🤦♀️ I think that is a weak excuse tbh. I like how in the movie adaptation, Terra still persues Slade. But you can tell that he's has 0 desire for her and I get the feeling that he didn't sleep with her in the movie. The way I understood it, he kept convincing her he was gonna do that after they defeated the Titans and since she was so young, she didn't question it.
Words cannot describe how my mind was blown when I found out Slade’s real name was always Slade, and his last name was Wilson. Then I found out his alias was actually supposed to be Deathstroke. I felt lied to and bamboozled. Building up an entire mystery over the identity of someone we were already told the real name of, but not given a background on.
I mean Judas Contract Slade *is Comic Slade* It’s not a single elseworld. That’s Slade up to the New 52 and it’s implied he still did it in the Rebirth era
I always wanted Slade to be mentored alongside Bruce pre Batman. They are close when it comes to combat, but Slade’s arrogance is his downfall. He knows Batman is Bruce through the similar moves Bruce learned alongside Slade years ago. Slade isn’t about ruling, not vengeance, but to show Bruce he’s the superior warrior.
Deathstroke also blames himself for the death of his son. He tried to warn his son about the danger or overusing his abilities but he didn't listen and he burned himself out, killing him. The reason that Deathstroke went after the Teen Titans is because his son had a contract to bring in the Titans and he accepted the contract. It wasn't personal for Slade, just a point of honor to finish his son's last contract. With "Teen Titans", since it was a series aimed at kids, they made him more of a manipulator. I think that was an improvement with the character, it made him more interesting.
Slide should have been in 1992 series instead of red claw or stupid trio!

What's clever is how Slade's apprentices are the inverse of each other. Robin was Slade's puppet metaphorically. Terra was his puppet LITERALLY.
And sex slave.
He forced Robin to shoot Starfire... There was nothing metaphorical about Robin's puppet strings.
