Jon: Buys a sponge cake coloured dog.
Also Jon: Carrot cake, that'd be perfect ;-p
It's a perfectly valid pet interpretation strategy. Dress for the dog you want (to be cake).
@@Lastielion I'm pretty sure my carrot cake recipe is made in one big bowl, this one seems complicated in comparison! Also I fear for Claire after all that cinnamon.
Sponge with coffee icing would match so well.
@@Rateus_Johanson Well sure, I won't defend Jon past the choice of cake. But the choice is legitimate as an 'interesting' video!
@@Steve-ln3kl NOW I WANT CAKE!
It's almost comforting to know that, after 10 years, Jon hasn't learned a jot about baking. Miss Tabby, but Ted is a very good boy! Thank you, Jon and Claire, for all these years of fun! May the next 10 be as wild and wonderful.
You realize if you support jon on patreon he gets like 99% of it, when you donate here youtube is literally like “oh thanks for the $8. The channel you donated to can have the other $12 i guess”
@@xaikken YT takes 30%, patreon takes 12%, so not precisely what you said there.
The best is either direct to paypal or streamlabs (3% each). (which for streamlabs is just standard transaction fees from paypal which is 3% FYI)
but I am sure Jon would say "any donation is better than none".
If everyone did 20 dollars per comment, you wouldn't care if you were getting 20 dollars or only 8 dollars of it.
Oh god, he was so happy when he opened the butter, so eager and proud to show us the little trick he learned so long ago, and then....I'm crying laughing. Please never change, Jon!
I could have sworn there was a subsequent cooking episode where he discovered that not all butter packaging has the measurement markers. Truly not a single lesson learned.
I choose to believe Clair intentionally got butter without the markings just to screw with him
@@GWR5538She did get him a whole cinnamon stick
I am also questioning the wisdom in using salted butter in baking.
@@legofisch9753 American recipes assume you're using salted butter and factor it into how much salt they tell you to add. And unless you're making something really delicate it's very unlikely there will be a noticeable difference in taste even if the recipe calls for unsalted.
Claire buying the cinnamon stick instead of ground cinnamon was absolutely peak trolling (intentional or otherwise). 👏👏👏
Jon's cinnamon application looked more like wood carving or pencil sharpening than spice grinding.
My guess is that she uses the cinnamon sticks for tea and already had them.
Okay...I'm new to the channel...so this is my first cooking special. My grandmother was a professional baker. I myself love cooking and study food history. This is a horror video. This is culinary terror. I cannot count the amount of horrific things I have seen. If there was a "Let's Talk About All the Things that Jon Got Wrong", it would be longer than this video. *And I am only 10 minutes in*.
Welcome! Go watch the previous ones -- he's been doing baking/cooking specials almost every year and has learned somehow less than nothing. It's horror all the way down and I love it.
@@Fuzzus I don't think I can handle more than one of these a year...
Jon is a genuine culinary terror
This is one of Jon's best attempts. The others are like baking with Mr. Bean.
@@Fuzzus I refuse to believe that it isn't at least partially an act at this point. There is no way someone this bad at cooking can still be alive, is there?
delights me that even when faced with the easiest method of measuring to exist, Jon still cant be bothered to measure properly. never change
Can't believe it's been so long, we're getting old. Miss Tabby :( ❤
Well don’t bloody bring it up, now were all thinking about it!
@@xaikken Jon himself brought it up in the video
@@irecordwithaphone1856 yeah but now its hours later and we are in the late-kitty conversation
"Curiously, the only thing that went through the minds of Claire's Kitchen aparatus, as Jon walked in with his camera, was 'Oh no, not again.'"
I had to read this a few times to understand lol
@@xaikken it is a sin to have ADHD and writing down all of the words you intended to. Even when ripping a quote out of a book.
😆
@@DearDoggins The 'oh no, not again made me instantly recognize where this was taken from:)
@@dread46 I listened to the first few episodes of the radio show on a long drive last week. The whale scene is still far and away the best bit of the series.
Jon: can't use scales, too complicated. I'll use cups, the SIMPLEST measuring system.
Also Jon: fluffs using a CUP.
Wow I thought cups and teaspoons were _already_ the worst way to measure things for baking, but Jon sure showed me how to make them even worse.
@@rockapartie when you correctly pack them 😂
I used to think that, until someone explained that there's rather solid logic behind it, and now I rarely use anything else.
The mind of a man who reaches for the potato masher for pecans is operating on an entirely different level to the rest of us
Claire is fortunate that she doesn't have a food processor.
I think you misspelled 'malfunctioning'
As a baker, this was physically painful to watch. Well done Jon
I'm just a home baker and I almost die from cringing every year. 🤣
So, out of genuine curious. What is the proper thing to do with cinnamon sticks? I usually just chew on them raw.
@@pieOutlawracing like, level 3 home chef here (out of 20) there exist spice grinders (though that be a gadget to buy), I'd at least grate it into a separate bowl to measure better. I keep having a good mortar and pestle on my wishlist but it'd take up space, not get used much (mostly for chile), and can be kinda pricy for my budget.
@@pieOutlawracing go buy preground cinnamon....
@FFNOJG I do? I'm just curious what I can do with cinnamon sticks.
I have barely any cooking experience, but I'm as horrified as I am captivated by what Jon manages to do.
Jon: gets a separate bowl for the egg shells.
Jon's countertop: full of spilt sugar, cinnamon shards, and egg whites.
Also omg Jon grating carrots with a microplane.
Continuing to edit as I watch and sip a Margherita:
Jon: scrapes out as much as he can from the batter bowl. Still plenty left to scrap out.
Tldr I'm a professional chef and I love this.
AND OMG HE ROTATED THE DARTH VADER FACE TO GET THE PARCHMENT OFF! 10/10 Would win Great British Bakeoff!
I get that John doesn't like following the precise measurements in recipes.
But baking is the part of cookery where closely following the recipe is pretty much entirely necessary.
Can't wait to watch this later tonight
Seriously, jon would make a good soup. Figure it out as you go. Too salty? Add something to soak it up
@@rockapartie Milk, potatoes, lemon, vinegar or water all work for making a soup less salty.
My jaw literally dropped....at the beginning when Jon insulted carrots. My favorite vegetable, how dare!!
I am so very late to this, at the time it came out we were worrying about a lump we'd just discovered on our pup - thankfully a harmless lipoma (a fatty lump, much like her Momma - anyway, too many digressions) - and I somehow forgot to come back to it. All of this to say - a belated, and very happy anniversary MATN - ten years has flown by with your kindness, and endless good humour, to keep our spirits lifted. As for the next ten years? If you keep making them, I'll keep watching them! All the best Jon & Claire, you have built something very special, and I am ever grateful for you both, and for the community. Much love
Jon has many strong food-related opinions this special. My condolences to Claire in this more-trying -then-usual time.
As the owner of multiple dogs...and the husband of a cake decorator...
This was priceless!!!
John being betrayed by the butter packaging is such a good story arc
It never ceases to amaze me at how much harder Jon makes baking than it needs to be.
Congratulations on making it 10 years into this chaotic nonsense of a RUclips channel!
every moment of it has been a treat and hope the next 10 years are just as good.
I just realized I've been watching 95% of Jon's videos weekly for.. 9 years.
Time does fly by when you're having fun.
Ironic that Jon used a Darth Vader tin to try and create a dogs head and what he ended up with is....an Ewok.
Totally! 😂
It's distressingly clear that the *bear* is still around in dessert form
xD xD the good old days
Jon: finds a recipe that requires no measuring, just filling cups and dumping them into a bowl
Also Jon: refuses to fill those cups before dumping them into the bowl
And that was the *high point*.
The butter end card to finish up this video is just *chef's kiss * 😂
“I feel like there is a dog out there that looks like this”
It kinda looks like a slightly janky English Mastiff, if you turned all the brown parts black.
I still want a "Claire reacts" video for all these cooking videos 😂
An hour of Claire crying makes sense as a synopsis of those videos.
I'm surprised that Claire allows Jon in the Kitchen anymore
He probably tricked her into the basement and locked the door, to prevent her from stopping him...
It's only once a year, the kitchen can't handle Jon more often than that.
@@innocentbrowncoat7333I'm still surprised it survived the first time. XD
I wonder if jon ever replaced the utensils he destroyed over the years.
@@heyster3 It has been confirmed that he has replaced stuff he ruined.
I completely forgot that it was the anniversary already it's been a hell of a ride Jon and I'm looking forward to the next 10 years
The egg carton has an eye patch... did I miss some egg carton Jon lore?
During the 8th anniversary vid, one of the egg carton's eyes fell off, and Jon sort of devolved into a fit of giggles over it. So now it's canon.
@@mastsh12 I may have to watch that one again, because I forgot all about that.
Punished Jon.
Ted looks to have a lot of Labrador in him as well. He's a good boy, indeed.
If recall correctly that is one of the breeds Ted has least of. I was shocked too, but DNA doesn't lie.
@@drworm73 But... I mean... look at him! He's clearly a lab!
I is cunfuzzled.
@@DaltonReutlinger - I get the impression that Lab is the Ur-Dog, what the more genetic mixing what all dogs would tend back towards.
@@queenannsrevenge100 what do we call that phenomenon? Labinization?

This video made my day! Happy anniversary)
Get home from a long day. Pour a drink…
MATN uploaded a new video! (Great)
It’s the anniversary cooking video! (I’m going to need something a bit stronger)
He’s making a Ted cake! (Leave the bottle…)
Happy Anniversary, MATN! And I truly hope the devastation in the kitchen was minor this year around 😂
From a completely not professional, long term, home cook and baker. ❤
the "I"VE BEEN BETRAYED" is a new endcard candidate
I'm not sure which triggers me more; Jon playing Kerbal Space Program, or Jon cooking/baking.
Thanks so much to the entire MATN team - it’s been a pleasure!
I look forward to the next decade.
(Ted is beautiful- RIP Tabby.)
"We did the DNA, it turns out, Ted's a dog."
It takes half of the video for the thumbnail to make sense. Fantastic.
Ted at the end clearly has a look of "I can't believe you've done this to me". Happy 10th birthday!
Thank you for all the wonderful years of laughter and story telling. The many of true family is a bright light in my life and I wish I have had more to spare right now. You all are so witty I hope you can get some nice deserving rest all.
Congratulations on 10 many a true years!!!
Can't believe it has already been a year since Tabby, I still remember getting emotional about it
Congratulations on 10 years Jon and Claire and Ted and RIP Tabby
🥰
I GUARANTEE Clair bought butter without packaging measurements SPECIFICALLY for this.
...and gave him cinnamon sticks. No one grinds their own cinnamon, and if they do they have coffee grinder to do it in. Nutmeg? Yes, and that rasp grater is perfect for that. Not cinnamon. Not with that tool
Yes, she 100% went shopping with malicious intent.😅
I never comment on your vids, but I've been watching since year one. You've brought me many great moments, as I've become a bit too old to play games myself these days. Thank-you for the free entertainment, and congratulations on the ten years.
These reminds me of why "I got a plan!" never ends well
But they are hilarious
ive been watching you guys since i was 12 since then ive gone through secondry school, sixth form got into uni and so much more dont ever stop making content love you guys!!
Is there a more terrifying phrase in the universe than hearing Jon say "I have got a plan," in a cooking video? I think not
I am so used to everything Jon knows about cookery being wrong that when he said he was mostly sure baking soda and bicarbonate of soda were the same thing I had a moment of self-doubt about this fact I have known all my life.
Congrats to both of you! I've loved every second I've spent on this channel. Looking forward to everything you guys have planned!
Also, Ted is absolutely adorable
Thanks for all you’ve done for me Jon. I have watched and rewatched your Fallout and other series dozens of times over and it always makes me feel better when I’m in a bad place. Truly appreciate you for always being there.
.....ruffly the right color. I hear what you did there Claire. Well done, well done. 👏
Congratulations on 10, Jon & Claire & Ted! I so love these anniversary episodes, my roommates are wondering just what I'm laughing my ass off at XD
I first found the channel when looking for a new Skyrim playthrough sometime in 2018. Been a subscriber ever since.
Here's to 10 more years of MATN turning my miserable days into joyous occasions!
EDIT: Just got to the part about immortalising Ted as a cake, and already know it would have gone better if he tried necromancing Tabby ala Pet Semetary.
ANOTHER EDIT: Went for carrot when Ted is more yellow and you could have got away with a lemon cake. Why Jon?
EDIT AT THE END OF THE VIDEO: I regret calling for 10 more years, shut it down, shut it down now. I can only imagine the 20 year anniversary will be a 50 minute video of a kitchen burning to the ground.
6ths months later but to explain the “Ted is orange” argument, Jon is colorblind and has mixed up beige and bright orange on more than one occasion.
I have never seen a dog-cake that looked more like a brown bear. So good job, I'd say.
Every year I look forward to this anniversary special! I've been watching your channel for 5 years now. I love your content! It's been with me through good times and helped me through some bad. Congratulations on 10 years! Happy Anniversary!
Just wanted to say that your content (specifically the long fallout playthroughs, YOLO etc) have gotten me through some really tough times. Sundays were always a saving grace when I felt no joy nor hope.
I've never heard you be angry, malicious or negative in any way possible and can only aspire to be a fraction of the good person you are. We should all be a little more like Jon.
Here's to another decade ❤
First off, Happy 10th!!! I've been watching your videos over the years, and they just keep getting better and better.
Well...except this video 😂 I think I spent most of the video with my mouth open in absolut shock. A+ for effort, that's for darn sure! I'm not even going to grade the final product... I'd buy you a baking class if I could 😂😂😂
Keep up the awesome work! Here's to the next 10 years of laughs and awesomeness.
Congratulations on ten years! I hope it's only "a good start" for your channel and that there are many more years of videos to come. I knew from the very first MATN video that you were a man of impeccable taste. Carrot cake is indeed the pinnacle of cakes, and while I do enjoy cream cheese frosting - I have a kid who despises it. I've found a fluffy vanilla frosting with a touch of nutmeg is delicious (I'd say possibly better) and allows us all to enjoy the carrot cake.
Thank you for a lovely video. We just had our bestest kitty Malcolm go "off to college" this week. Seeing how you dealt with loss and able to love a new bestest boy helped.
Thanks for being the best content creator you kept me sane these past years
Congrats on ten years! I've been watching for close to that. It's been great watching the channel grow over the years. Sweet roll will always be one of my favorites.
32:30 Jesus, when that pecan was exposed, it looked like he had baked a cockroach into the batter.
50 seconds in and I've already choked by laughing too hard. This is why I've stayed subscribed to this channel ever since your Fallout 3 Kill Everything run. Thank you Jon, thank you for the many years of nearly killing me with your jokes.
10 years?! Thats an incredible achievement, and it reflects in the quality of Jon's videos.
And what makes it even more impressive is that he's a box of eggs.
10 years is a long time for a box of eggs to keep it fresh.
When the recipe called for a teaspoon and Jon pulled out an actual teaspoon instead of a measuring one I knew exactly how this was going to go. I love it.
I think my favourite part was: "coarsely chopped but it doesn't say how fine!"
He started using the microplane and I didn't stop crying the entire time.
Upon seeing the notification for a 10 year special, I was compelled to go back and figure out how long I've been watching. I remembered the specific video that brought me to the channel (fallout 4 Frost) so I went back through the catalog. Turns out I've been here for five years. I've spent more time watching Jon than it took to get a degree. Wild.
You know, after 10 years I would have thought that Jon would have learned something about baking. But every time there needs to be an ingredient added, somehow, it gets worse. Thanks for all the content all these years Jon and co, it continues to be amazing!
Jon definitely needs a Blue Peter cookbook. Also expecting the cake to turn out as interesting
"We're going to be making a Ted cake!"
Tabby's ghost, up in cat heaven: *Facepaw*
Prepares cups to measure, admits it is easier. Fails to measure with cups... ok and just eye's it.
You couldn't have made a better welcome for Ted! I don't care about your baking skills or how closely you followed the directions. This channel has never been about doing things the best way. Doing things the MATN way is far more entertaining. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard!
Here is a tutorial for Jon on how to turn cinnamon and anything crunchy into fine dust.
Step 1: put said crunchy thing in plastic bag so they wont see it coming.
Step 2: use said bag to attack your greatest nemesis; *the* *kitchen* *counter*
Step 3: break the bag and spill half broken cinnamon all over your kitchen.
Step 4: do it until you dont make a mess!
Goddamn, I have psychic powers....apparently? I was _just_ joking about Jon needing to destroy the kitchen again 2 days ago in a voting poll thread....😂
You stumbled into the American system of baking
Given Jon’s proclivity for nearly burning down the kitchen and the suspect nature of his cooking… I am concerned for Ted.
But holy crap, congratulations on 10 years! Love to you, Ted, and Claire!
Congrats on the decade and more years to come. I was laughing so much through this although I could instantly see what you were going for with the Darth Vader pan, it sort of worked as well. I was pretty worried one of you would bite into a shard/splinter of cinnamon however I'm relieved to see that didn't happen.
Thank you so much for the laughs throughout the years :)
A decade wow! Congrats to you and Claire! Love this channel so dang much
I was nearly screaming at my phone watching this travesty of baking.
Well done John. Well done. 10/10 would watch again.
Also, your cake looked remarkably like a Muppet.
I've watched and rewatched these specials, can't wait. Edit a minute and a half in and I am already sold
Of course it was super understandable that the special went missing last year.. but lord have I been looking forward to the return, so happy right now!
A very happy ten years for the viewers. Hoping for another ten. (Also obligatory 'Who's a good boy? Ted is, Ted's a good boy!) Cheers John.
Jon thank you! Don’t normally comment on anything but this video put a smile on my face! And unfortunately it’s been rare lately! I appreciate you and your channel! Here’s to 10 more years!🎉
The eye patch continuity kills me!
Now I’d kind of like to see Jon play Cooking Mama. 😂
Jon, you made my day. You are a hero, boldly going where no one else dares. Thank you!
I've been watching these since about the 4th anniversary, and I swear when I start yelling "no!" gets earlier every year
Ah, watching Jon cook never fails to make me feel much more confident in the kitchen. Thanks Jon!!
TEN YEARS! Wild. Happy Nerd-iversary
"God only knows how this is gonna turn out"...haha, most of us have a pretty good idea already
Congrats on 10 amazing years and cheers to many more! Ted is an absolute stunner of a pup. Thanks for everything Jon, Claire and Ted and Tabby who will always be here in spirit.
Such slander against carrots! 🥕 🥕 🥕 Carrots are so tasty 😢
Happy 10 years of MATN!
Jon, add this to the anniversary playlist plz. I like my cooking chaos in 1 spot 😬
I love how previously Jon learned of the great gram measures on the butter packaging, but this time was betrayed by the kind he got not having them.
It's been 3 years since Jon last cooked on the channel. Its been too long since I've seen such a hilarious disaster unfold in a kitchen. I love the anniversary cooking video!
All hail Darth Ted the Cake!
