NGL, the best explanation I found was from an SI fanfic
Ork-Tek *technically* works, but is horrifically unstable and has never heard of the concept of 'safety features', the WAAAGH field essentially acts like psychic lubricant, making it work (somewhat) smoothly, and fudging the numbers so that there's a low(er) probability of failiure
The important thing is, just like in canon, it's based on the Orks' Collective Belief, not any single Ork
