WOW. I already loved Billy, but as a dead head I was wondering how he'd sound doing some Dead covers. Stumbled upon this and my jaw is on the floor. Stunning cover of such an incredible song. He damn sure does it justice
alex beumer I saw him last month and was practically on stage with him(small, intimate setting) and he surprised us with this song and holy shit! goosebumps, tears..the whole nine. He definitely can “take you there”! It’s so nice to see that there’s some players that are up and coming carry that torch that I thought was was gonna go out. It’s not. Young players like Billy and Marcus King(there’s a vid here on yt of them playing a whole set together. Billy even pulls out the electric guitar) are keeping it alive. There’s a lot more too. He’s a cool cat too. He was nice enough to hang out and take pics with my gf and I. I had so much more to say and ask him but I pretty much froze up like I always do lol. Don’t get many opportunities like that and they’ll be fewer and farther betweener with him in the near future cause he’s gonna blow up to rock star status I have a feeling and it’ll be hard to get that close. He just needs to keep his wheels tight so they don’t fall off and he will. I wish him all the luck in the world.
I got to shake his hand and tell him THANKS before he even went on stage. Just for keeping the sound "going". I tried not to be the fan boy BUT GOD, I was just overwhelmed to the point of grateful tears. Only two other times I've ever been that way. Sitting in a room talking one on one with Doc Watson and then, having Earl Scruggs shake my hand and tell me "Thank You" in the most humble fashion, after rolling him in his wheelchair to the stage in one of his last appearances. ever. You know, it"s not so much a shame Billy didn't get to see either of them live/sit in with them. It's sad that neither Doc or Earl got to see Billy perform....atleast in this World. But looking down, BOTH know The Music is in the BEST of hands.
Bryan Keller awesome! Awesome you got to share the same air and experience two of the finest guitar players ever up close and awesome that you put Billy up there on the same stage with them! And to imagine them playing together eventually. I don't have the words, Brother but you hit it with that one. Great thoughts and very eloquently conveyed.
2:22 goosebumps all over! Omg love him so much! I am a deadhead, no questions if you met me but Billy has now brought me to tears with 3 dead covers, bird song and wharf rat are also amazing!
And this is why they invite him to the Jerry Garcia memorial tribute every year! Jerry Garcia’s widow and children love them some Billy strings! Rock on!
It's incredible to see musicians my age with so much talent. I know they exist, but it's so refreshing to actually see them. These guys have so much of my respect.
Love Billy, songs can be played at different tempos. But if it’s slower and put more emotion in the lyrics it’s extremely powerful. Then his lead in to the picking will give it more of a splash.
Hit those Jerry notes kid. The Dead world is listening.
@Jerry Garcia Jerry !!!

same exact thing happened to me. :)

I would love to hear him do Dire Wolf.
His showmanship is fabulous. I am wrapped up in every song he sings. I believe every word.
You don’t just hear every word, you feel it. I’ve heard more than one person say they haven’t had music make them feel this way since Jerry left us.
"it's only fractured and just a little nervous from the fall"... always gave me chills and still does. beautiful version and super tasteful solo.
Christopher Reily Same ♥️

Everytime.
Billy needs to join Dead an Company!!!!
Fuck yeah. He feels it. JM does not
He owns this one now. Jerry always said "if others can make use of the music when we are done with it, that's great!" So it goes.
Brings back memories.
A tribute to the Greatful Dead and the 70s. Who could be more venerable than Billy? You can it! God bless you and your musicality.
Hitting the road with a special guest. I’m not gonna tell you who it is. Love you guys
Absolutely beautiful, boy's a star
off the charts
that was such an excellent cover of a classic. Thanks for sharing.
Have heard them sing this many a time but this version just gave me all over goosebumps, they are so damn good!! Unbelievable!!
Amen!
nice to see the dead's music respected & played by so many artists now. its like a genre of music on its own now
It is indeed a genre, at least in my world.
i call 'em new folk standards
Man I would LOVE to see bobweir and wolfbros with billy strings that would be mind blowing
Lol @ 2:02 when he says "failing" and looks over at the banjo player Billy Failing.
Jerry would approve
Tack up your china dol it’s only fractured and just a little nervous from the fall
And this is why they invite him to the Jerry Garcia memorial tribute every year! Jerry Garcia’s widow and children love them some Billy strings! Rock on!
I have not heard it done better. Billy and his band bring it all out.
you havent listened to many china dolla i gather
So good
Good guitar players are amazing. Amazing guitar players make my eyes water. Damn he's amazing!
Just when I thought I loved Billy with all my heart and part of my soul I found this, got goosebumps, holy shit!
It's incredible to see musicians my age with so much talent. I know they exist, but it's so refreshing to actually see them. These guys have so much of my respect.
I keep coming back and watching this ..
Me too. 😊
This kid is amazing.
I first hear Billy Strings from a video in some kid’s basement. Good then, Golden now.
L R Baggs: Billy Strings lay this down in a proper setting. So much to offer in music. The words and tempo are first rate. China Doll is my favorite.
I do believe Jerry would have loved this.
Thank you
Riveting presence in your singing and exquisite guitar!
BEAUTIFUL! (Tears) ❤️
Gorgeous and I'm a music connoisseur. Not easy impressed after growing up with Allman Bros, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, et al.
Billy is the Chosen ONE
What does the cameraman have against mandolins and fiddles?? Just a little wider ... LOL. Otherwise an amazing video I’m grateful to get to watch!
Christopher Reily Haha I’m like where’s Jarrod and who’s fiddlin?
Camerman not so professional.
Great performance, video, not so much. There is an entire bluegrass ensemble playing, yet very little footage of all of them.
Your awesome Billy 👍💗
