My new favorite car channel. Just love how respectful Mr. Tyrrell is to his employees. No ego. Just confidence born of good manners and in-depth knowledge.
What a refreshing change to the usual "Hey guys, whassup, I just bought the cheapest (car model) in (country)" RUclips car channels. Give me these soft-spoken real expert craftsmen any day.
I’d have loved Craig to add his signature as he is exceptionally talented The way Iain encourages his team is top notch , unsurprisingly I might add 😎🏴👌🙏🏁
Hi, Mr. Tyrrell, No not too nerdy at all, in fact, that's why I watch your videos as you don't skip over the details, those videos where an Aston or jag is restored in 3mins 40 sec to music just doesn't cut for me. Your detailed descriptions are brilliant and along with some of your points about metallurgy, etc are fascinating. I'm currently restoring my 1963 DB4 series 5 Vantage & am doing it mostly myself so it's great to learn from such an expert. Thank you & keep them coming as we are in lockdown here in NZ so I'm head down bum up into the Aston
OMG Iain! I never understand why videos stay hidden on here for months and then suddenly pop up. You mentioned Harry, and I have been watching him for some time. He even makes farming interesting to me despite having bad experience with that as a kid. You, sir, have taught me things I never knew. Like the purpose for helical gears. I have seen them off and on over the past 50 years but never having dealt with them other than getting under my 57 Chevy one dark night with a flashlight and an adjustable spanner and switching the gearbox out. Watching you tune the carbs on that DB 4 was fascinating. I think if I apprenticed under you for about 20 or 30 years I might have some of your competence enough to go to work as a mechanic on a professional level. But since I'm already 71 I might have to hold over for my next lifetime by then. Lol I watched several of your videos last night till the wee hours and of course subed immediately. Don't ever stop!
The way you speak with your men about what they are working on is just so professional and you put them on an equal footing with you, respecting their knowledge of their trade. I love listening to you and your "nerdy" talking about these great and classic cars. Cheers mate!
This is without question the finest automotive show of all time & this comes from a guy in the US with a muscle car background. If you can't learn or find something to enjoy here well you must be brain dead. You are a true gentleman & a great wealth of knowledge. I wish you all the best & continued success, thanks Iain for sharing your time from your across the pond!!!
This has to be one of the best (if not the best) car content channels to surface on YT atm, I'm so glad Harry's Garage (YT top 3 imo) helped make this possible - fantastic!
Please bring us more videos like this! The nerdier the better. I literately stopped watching most other youtubers and am following you and Harry's Garage. The calmness in your videos and the way you explain things is like being in a classroom of my favorite subject. Thank you and keep safe please.
Dear Mr Tyrrell. I just lost my mother, and I am devastated. But your videos brings me calmness, happiness. Thank you for sharing your world, you are doing such an amazing job
To say that your comment touched my heart would be a massive understatement. I can't really convey in words, but thank you very much. I hope and pray that you will have peace at this time.
20:45 Too nerdy? No, No, No!!!. Not nerdy enough :-) Great stuff, I didn´t hear from any other source, like the gear box infos for the Miura and the 300SL Roadster/Gullwing and the placement for some important electricity under the left vent in the white Coun-TOUCH! Many Thanks! Sooo entertaining!!
I'm in general someone people come to to talk about cars and get advice, etc. When I listen to Iain I feel like I know absolutely nothing and I'm sitting at the feet of a master. It is just such a pleasure to see these exquisite cars and someone who takes the time meticulously work on them and maintain their originality.
Your depth of knowledge and the detail of information you give us is just fantastic, please pass on as much as you possibly can, it will NEVER be too nerdy. I can't imagine how you have picked up so much information about so many different cars, but I'm certainly glad you have.
Incredible cars lovingly restored by master craftsmen. The channel is a joy to watch. No shouty loudmouths, no ear-bleeding 'music' but just experienced, knowledgable experts in their chosen field. A refreshing new channel that will go viral in no time simply because Iain and his team are a joy to behold. Keep up the amazing work.
Many congratulations on a sublimely wonderful channel. Please don’t apologise for the “nerdiness”; as many have said below, therein lies the passion. Very much looking forward to more videos. Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant! What a way to spend a Covid19 'lock-down' afternoon! I think Iain should have his works pumped into every NHS establishment - calm, methodical and reassuring!
Another excellent episode! Mr Tyrrell , keep the nerdy coming as 90% of us who watch this will never see one of these in the metal & I for one am really happy that you take the time to make these videos. Keep them coming please!
The best channels are those where you get to see beautiful works of automotive art, watch craftsman at work, and learn incredible details about these vehicles. This channel has all of those. Thanks to Iain and Harry for putting this together. Very good.
Really enjoyable to watch this work. Nerd fact back for you: helical gears are so quiet because the radial distance of the contact point from the 2 axes remains constant. With a straight cut gear the contact point moves in and out as the teeth mesh. Even if the driving gear runs at a constant speed, the driven gear oscillates in speed fractionally as each tooth goes in and out of mesh and the drive radius changes. Hence the high-pitched whine. The effect can be reduced by profiling the teeth but the most effective solution is the helical gear, which as a side product can also take increased load with improved reliability. I would get out more if I could!
Loved the explanation on helical cut gears, which I already understood from having training on a helical slab mill on an over arm milling machine during my apprenticeship back in the early 70's. That must be a very hard decision to make in the electrics department as in repair or replace. The thought of the owner spending a lot of money on refurbishment only to find the fault returns soon after having the car returned. That's where the years of Iain's experience comes to the fore.
In line with a lot of other comments, its so nice to watch one of Iains videos - real knowledge gained over decades of work& research. Long may it continue 👍This and Harrys Garage are the top petrolhead channels on the tube 😀
Lockdown and isolation (Coronavirus March 2020 for when its all a distant memory) doesn’t seem too bad when there are 2 new video’s from Iain to lose myself in...
#8 The laboriuos process required in absolute OEM interior restoration. Such attention must be paid for but WOW. Some Miura gearbox education midway through. Fascinating.
Most 1960s ,70s Alfa Romeo sedans ( Giulia TI,supers and Berlinas,GTVs ) and coupes used the snakebite pattern headlining. Probably same supplier to the Miuras
so, in order: 1. at first: sensation of happiness for the appearance of a new video in of Mr. Tyrrell in my YT notifications 2. Grab a glass of red wine (even if it's afternoon) 3. thumbs up for the video 4. write this comment 5. press "play" and enjoy! Thank you in advance Mr Tyrrell!
Never too nerdy, Iain! It’s fascinating to learn about the small details which are often overlooked. It’s refreshing to hear when something is as old as the cars being sensitively brought back to life, with the same passion and integrity as when they were new. Bravo!
Iain... Nerdy is part of what makes the difference with you.. Please don't refrain from expressing your passion, I would wager that most on here watching your videos love the nerd element.. stay safe!! keep it up and thank you
Quickly becoming one of my favourite youtube channels, the easy going manner of Mr Tyrell and his encyclopaedic knowledge is a perfect antidote to a world of coronavirus
This was on a par with one of Jay's restoration vlogs..Brilliant content. It must be wonderful for the technicians who work in this calm, respectful and absorbing environment...working on some of the most wonderful cars ever produced, being challenged, and also to be able to work to a standard rather than a low price.
Fascinating. Nerdy is good! I love the technical information about these wonderful machines. You do a great job, Ian, of explaining how things work and why they are designed the way they they are. You strike the right balance between not assuming people have a great deal of technical understanding without being patronising in anyway. That can sometimes be a tricky line to follow, so hats off to you sir.
I can tell a master craftsman when I see one. Just love how beautifully made the headlining for the Jarama looked like. I believe it will fit perfectly!
Another fantastic post, very interesting loving the expert nerdishness! A friend of mine back in the late 80's bought a brand new Cadillac after a few weeks he noticed a nasty smell, faint but unmistakable. The dealer was stumped until they took the inside door panel off only to find a decomposing ham sandwich. LOL. Thank you Iain for sharing your passion.
This video has been up only a few hours and half of the 36,000 subscribers have already watched it. It tells you how eagerly we look forward to these videos.
Thanks again Iain.....the integrity of the yellow Muira will be spot in with that stunning original interior retained!! My dad when working on new Countach’s always had plastic shopping bags ready for under those rear vents before adding water!!😹😹👌👌
Thank you Iain. Another great video. Although I love cars I am not a mechanic, so it was really interesting to learn about the gearbox in the Miura and how you were able to 'read' it. It was a nerdy video, but I love the conversation around the carpets in the Miura that have been restored, love the detail. Another fun aspect was the correct pronunciation of the Countach, I've been saying it incorrectly all my life! Looking forward to lots more videos.
Would love to see a video or two on getting the Countach back in shape. Coming in with some work to be done would be really interesting. Thanks for all the great content so far Ian.
Talking of double de-clutching, could you please do a video on how to drive cars 'sympathetically'? I have always treated any car with great care but it would be great to get your expert opinion on how to treat them right.
Brilliant as always. You cannot be too nerdy. Just one nerdy point of my own - the helical gears on the Miura are for noise damping - not dampening - we wouldn’t want any water in there!
Hi Tyrell! It's such a great channel you've made. It's nice, calm, and nerdy - in contradiction to most of the other car channels. I hope you keep this channel alive for many years to come. And please just go on about the neardy stuff 😊👍
I just watched all your videos more or less one after the other, I love it! I really like the hands on bits, your explanation of the wear on the gears, the angle of the gears and that kind of stuff is fascinating. Clearly you know your stuff and your love of originality is great too. I am sure this will be a very successful channel, the paradox being that you already have a business to run that requires your full attention I suspect. This kind of content is what makes RUclips so great, top gear and wheeler dealers are fine, but this is real and the authenticity shows. Thank you for all your effort.
Definitely my favorite You Tube channel. The cars are great, but you’re so informative and you speak to and are interesting to both the layman and professional. It’s no wonder you’re so successful. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Nice compliment to the driver of the yellow Muira. From all the other things that Iain has said about the car, it looks like it's been really well looked after.
Hi, I’m late finding your presentations but thank you ever so much for taking the time to put these together and upload them. You have a truly engaging presentation style which really brings out your respect, knowledge and appreciation of these beautiful cars, their engineering and the time from which they came. Big thumbs up for showing the people who contribute to these restorations through their superb skill and hard work. Well done and keep it up!
Excellent. This is exactly what we need in these troubled times. A real craftsmen giving his expertise about a subject so many of us love. Thanks Iain, please keep them coming when restrictions allow!
Iain, this stuff is all spot on, no way is it too nerdy at all. I love it, the discussion on helix angles on gear sets was just great to listen too. Please don’t hold back on the nerd stuff. Clearly from the comments lots of others love it too.
Having served my apprenticeship many years ago working on classic jaguars and astons I would love a job at your place to relive my youth and love of beautiful motor cars..... even if I can just be brew boy 👍👍
George Gore Same here, only problem is age & poor health, but just gelling out with a cuppa takes me back to the many happy hours I spent working on cars & building several of my own from the ground up. Top quality channel, years of experience shared, what could be better.
I will 2nd that George Gore having also served my time as a motor vehicle engineer; hell, I think I would be happy pushing a broom around the garage floor just to be close to the fantastic collection of vehicles in Mr Tyrells workshop! :)
Another excellent video thanks Iain. I always knew straight cut gear were noisy but never knew what so your explanation of helical gears was really appreciated. 😒
Cracking explanation of helical gears and straight cut gears, knew straight cut were noisier but never knew the real reason why, used to be into classic Mini's and always wanted a straight cut gearbox. Excellent content, very entertaining channel (one of the best on RUclips), keep up the good work, the Miura is my number 1 dream car.
"Hope it hasn't been too nerdy for you?" That's the reason we're here!
no such thing as too nerdy
Exactly 😎
Utterly correct. That Countach is utterly delicious, too.
No way, we need more nerdiness, a lot more!
Spot on!
I know right? It's almost meditative in these stressful times.
Exactly. I have also grown tired of that over-worn intro to videos.
or screaming into the microphone while grinning at everyone and everything.
Exactly. How come this guy doesn't have his own show on a major network. Instead we have tons of garbage car shows all over the place.
Phil UK Net haha I was thinking exactly the same thing!
I’d have loved Craig to add his signature as he is exceptionally talented
The way Iain encourages his team is top notch , unsurprisingly I might add 😎🏴👌🙏🏁

Our team is extremely happy to be on board with Iain. Every video just gets better and better! Thank you so very much
Thank you for making this happen!
One complaint: Too Short!!
@@mtnvalley9298 Not nerdy enough !
Thank you House Of Cards for getting on board with Tyrrell's Classic Workshop please post your web site address, thank you!
Please keep up your support - Iain's a real pleasure to listen to and learn from.

What a great car channel. Professional, soft spoken. No phony stories. Highly informative. Excellent in all respects.

I love the sensitivity and careful approach to these restorations. This is craftsmanship at its finest.
It joy of being able to see the working of true craftspeople is a privilege. Can never get enough. Thank you
The knowledge and skill of Iain and his team never fails to leave me in awe.

I really appreciate the respectful way you talk to your staff. Keep it going. And, no such thing as 'too nerdy'.
We actually learn stuff here unlike most of the other car channels, thanks
The quality of the content is stunning.

Loved all the explanation on helical cut gears. Velocette motorcycles used very fine helical timing gears to achieve quietness in 1935.
I see Tyrrell's new video, I click.
And ALWAYS thumbs up/like straight away.

Always look fwd to your videos Iain! 45 yrs in this business and I learn something new everyday! Keep 'em nerdy!
Best channel on RUclips and telly for that matter. Skill, knowledge, respect and great manners. More nerdy stuff please. Cheers
Knowledge always trumps entertainment and that is why this channel will be at 100K in no time!!!
Thanks to Harry's garage; this channel became my favorite before it even existed. ^_^

Just the carpet section is interesting. Fantastic attention to detail. Gold muira!! That's a poster car. Great description of gearing
Never nerdy enough Iain. Absolutely fascinating.
Enjoyed every minute. So wish that was my day job
Ian is the Bob Ross of classic exotic cars could listen to this man for hours.👍
Really nice to watch something motoring related that's tasteful and not aimed at youth's.
so, in order:
1. at first: sensation of happiness for the appearance of a new video in of Mr. Tyrrell in my YT notifications

Nice to see you sharing the contributions made by your team and giving them credit too.
Nerdy? Really Iain? Never. So enjoyable watching craftsmen at work. The upholstery work is fabulous. Thanks. Cheers, Bob

it's like popping down your local workshop and grabbing a cup of coffee and a chat through the challenges of the day. Wonderful!

The only complaint I have about this channel is they aren’t making enough videos to satisfy my craving!!! 🤣🤣
Such a joy to watch these gents.
its not nerdy! its absolutley brilliant...please keep it going....very enjoyable
I just watched a deep-dive into the effect of helical gear angles on power loss and noise output. And I LOVED every second of it.
Extremely well presented and filled with the sort of detail than only a total strip down can reveal. Just excellent. I am hooked.
Wish this was an hour long show, really really enjoyed that
This video has been up only a few hours and half of the 36,000 subscribers have already watched it. It tells you how eagerly we look forward to these videos.
Thanks Ian, never too 'nerdy' for me. Careful consideration and delicate handling are what these lovely old beasts need!
Such a gentleman, and you can't be too nerdy for my taste, Ian. Keep these wonderful videos coming along. Thank you.
Iain Tyrrell is a joy to listen to and watch. Wonderful performer in many ways
Great episode of Tyrrell‘s Classic Workshop - Thank you... Greetings Matthias
Would love to see a video or two on getting the Countach back in shape. Coming in with some work to be done would be really interesting. Thanks for all the great content so far Ian.
Excellent- again ! Love the way we get to see what happens in the workshop and the way you explain everything so well. Thank you Iain Tyrrell.
Talking of double de-clutching, could you please do a video on how to drive cars 'sympathetically'?
I have always treated any car with great care but it would be great to get your expert opinion on how to treat them right.
I'm proud to be a Tyrrell nerd. Thank you again Iain.
"Yes, yes, yeah! Yeah, yes it is, yeah! Yes, exactly, yeah." 😉
So much attention to detail in this restoration. Awesome.
Yes, yeah count?
Brilliant as always. You cannot be too nerdy. Just one nerdy point of my own - the helical gears on the Miura are for noise damping - not dampening - we wouldn’t want any water in there!
Hi Tyrell!
It's such a great channel you've made. It's nice, calm, and nerdy - in contradiction to most of the other car channels. I hope you keep this channel alive for many years to come. And please just go on about the neardy stuff 😊👍
Informative as usual. Keep up the good work.
The speed of these videos is spot on - they are actually relaxing to watch.
Most enjoyable and as others have said, we like the nerdy stuff.
Never too nerdy when it comes to getting a glimpse into the world of classic super-cars.
I just watched all your videos more or less one after the other, I love it! I really like the hands on bits, your explanation of the wear on the gears, the angle of the gears and that kind of stuff is fascinating. Clearly you know your stuff and your love of originality is great too. What a fantastic video!! The history and rarity of these cars is amazing. Please make them more nerdy. Already looking foreward to the next video
Definitely my favorite You Tube channel. The cars are great, but you’re so informative and you speak to and are interesting to both the layman and professional. It’s no wonder you’re so successful. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Arse on couch ,cup of tea in hand
Not moving for the next 21 min 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fact.
In my case I also upgraded to 2 slices of toast with marmite.
bryan
Good stuff mate
👍🏻
Nice compliment to the driver of the yellow Muira. From all the other things that Iain has said about the car, it looks like it's been really well looked after.
Hi, I’m late finding your presentations but thank you ever so much for taking the time to put these together and upload them. You have a truly engaging presentation style which really brings out your respect, knowledge and appreciation of these beautiful cars, their engineering and the time from which they came. Big thumbs up for showing the people who contribute to these restorations through their superb skill and hard work. Well done and keep it up!
Wow......these videos are so different from the usual RUclips stuff. Nice to know the ins-n-outs and the characters of these fabulous cars.
Excellent. This is exactly what we need in these troubled times. A real craftsmen giving his expertise about a subject so many of us love. Thanks Iain, please keep them coming when restrictions allow!
excellent Iain , so interesting i loved the power transmission section on the miura- facinating!
Iain, this stuff is all spot on, no way is it too nerdy at all. I love it, the discussion on helix angles on gear sets was just great to listen too. Please don’t hold back on the nerd stuff. Clearly from the comments lots of others love it too.
Great chuckle regarding the position of the ignition system near the end!
What a great informative bunch of guys, softly spoken, no shouty presenters, & beautiful cars, you have a new subscriber now, thanks guys 👍🏻
Having served my apprenticeship many years ago working on classic jaguars and astons I would love a job at your place to relive my youth and love of beautiful motor cars..... even if I can just be brew boy 👍👍
George Gore
Same here, only problem is age & poor health, but just gelling out with a cuppa takes me back to the many happy hours I spent working on cars & building several of my own from the ground up. Top quality channel, years of experience shared, what could be better.

One of the best car content on RUclips ! Thanks a lot

The nerdier and more detailed the better! I love all of the indepth technical and historical bits!!
