    I’m starting to learn that your planning system should change with your seasons of life, and not the other way around. Let’s erase the guilt!

  • @amandaleighplans
    @amandaleighplans 2 года назад +32

    You explained my life perfectly lol. It can be fun to write the same stuff when you want “planner time” and to play, but other times I get overwhelmed with duplicated info!!

    • @lindseyscribbles
      @lindseyscribbles  2 года назад +6

      Yes! It’s all fun and games until you’re overwhelmed 😂

  • @clairec1560
    @clairec1560 2 года назад +5

    Ahh im so changeable too. It’s a problem LOL. I thought I was a one book girl but recently I got overwhelmed with all the detail in one place, so I switched to a multiple book system. I now keep different areas of life in different books, so I can switch off from them mentally if I need to. My daily planner is kept really simple now for clarity n calm lol. The rest aren’t for daily planning at all. More memory keeping and information storage and art. I find the different books allows me to be changeable cause I can pick up whatever one I’m in the mood for which is lovely 😍

    • @clairec1560
      @clairec1560 2 года назад +1

      Oh important point i didn’t mention, I planned it so that each book doesn’t require daily effort. So there’s no overwhelm or pressure / obligation. It’s more like monthly or small weekly reviews, or info or art with no time limit :)

    As a multiple-planner girl, I have found your pared down, more minimalistic approach so refreshing. My new passport sized travelers notebook is on the way and I will be sticking to one planner for the foreseeable future - you've inspired me!

    I usually work best with a planner and journal only. I can mange 2 books this way, but never more than that!

    I have found planner peace using the Weeks Mega for everything but work and an A5 messy BuJo for work. I need to separate my project-heavy 9-5 from other aspects of my life, so this has been working amazingly for me. I also use Alexis Kingsley's workbook for goal setting, but it's mostly a monthly thing and not something I have to keep up with. I can journal in that one if I need to clear my head, but, same, I don't intend to preserve it, it's just a draft.

    If you fold the inserts back, like breaking the spine of a bound book, before you put them in the TN it will help them lay flat. I’m a huge fan of traveler’s company TNs and standard size bound books, welcome to the team. Good luck. 🥰

    I'm in a Cousin this year for the first time and I think I have found my one true love, I have everything in one book, all organized neatly. But sometimes I think about how fun and portable the Standard TN is and start to waffle, lol. But function wise, I think I'll stick with the Cousin.
    Watching you explore and play with your planning system is super fun, thanks for such an in depth video.

    I am with you about juggling more than 2. I switched to the Roterfaden and I am super happy with it. The inserts lay flat and I personally like that it is very easy to take out inserts if I want to take them out and keep them open when I work with another. Also they have pockets and zips so you can use it for a wallet, etc.

    I have just been feeling the pull back to a TN after using the Weeks and rings for the past few years. Now I REALLY want to go back!

  • @bloom6081

    I'm currently in a standard TN, with one grid insert for pre-planning my months and tracking finances, and then my "main" BuJo is a blank A5 Hobonichi notebook cut down to standard size. I can switch up the way I plan in it, let it get full, and move on to the next one, while still having that insert for the overall year.
    I was using a Weeks and A6 combination before this, but found that I'm the type that doesn't like to duplicate information. I also really prefer a grid to write on, and the left side of the Weeks doesn't have that. I had to go back to my fauxbonixhi layouts I used to do back when I first got my TN a few years ago, but I'm glad I have the Weeks, still. It's a good learning experience.

    The travelers company inserts are notorious for not laying flat in my experience. I usually have to break them in quite a bit to help with laying flat.

    Hello! I’m so happy I ran across your video today. You sound like your brain works a lot like mine, I too have a problem trying to use anything more than two books… And yet, my prayer journal is still a completely separate thing. Although, I found that I can handle that if I just make added notes into my daily journaling, for extra things that are heavy on my heart.
    I love what you said about needing to journal for your mental health! I just recently discovered what a powerful tool that is. Especially when going through hard times. I find that having it next to my daily plan, helps keep me focused, in the moment, and keeps everything in perspective… Rather than having the plans in one notebook and just the journaling/feelings, in the other. It all ties together in my mind, so why not in my planner?
    One last thing, I know what you mean about being afraid of running out of pages. One of the other girls I follow, got me in the habit of using some inserts that are roughly 160 pages, and just being really chill about moving into the next book when one runs out. At first it sounded like planner heresy… Lol! But it has worked really well for me! If I end a notebook at the end of the month, my brain is extra happy. If not, I just move on, into the next notebook. (Sometimes I will give myself a couple of empty pages, to make it happen better… My OCD is still at work at times lol). No biggie, either way. Thank you for these videos! You have a new follower!

    I hope rhe new system works for you! I understand how frustrating it is when you no longer feel the joy in a particular planner. My Hobonichi Weeks Mega works quite well for me, especially as an EDC but not perfectly. So I'm waiting for an April start Cousin, following in your footsteps, where I can journal as well. I hope using those two will keep me going through the rest of 2022. I don't see myself ever using a Traveler's Notebook System-too many insets for me. But I hope you enjoy it.

  • @reihwan

    Oh my what a journey. I think I felt like this last year, but that was just because I was still deciding what to use in '22 and I was torn into so many options, because Cousin had the weekly pages empty. (fast forward to now, I kinda would want them....) I've been considering grabbing Weeks, but when I first tried it - it was too little space. Yet, now that things are different and I plan differently I'm so tempted to order a one. (brain: must not, empty pages anxiety)
    Currently I'm on Day-Free for kind of BuJo aspect, and separate hobo notebook for journaling-venting-whathaveyou, and then another notebook for collaging only. And the only one I really use is the Day-Free, the rest are very... mood dependant. Yet, with all this I come up with 'reasons' that I'd make Weeks work for me, but then reality reminds me that I do all that in the Day-free and I don't leave the house really. + Everything I have is A5 sized, has been for years.

    I also had to be brutally honest with myself about my inability to balance more than 2 planners. I was just thinking about how much better 2 books work for me when you brought it up, haha.

  • @karencolum

    Thank you Lindsey for sharing your planner/journaling dilemma. I have been having a similar experience this year. I'm very much like you in that I can't manage (and quite frankly don't want to manage) more than 2 books but want distinct sections for work and personal. I find that I too worry about pages when I section pages in a bound notebook. I'm trying a Wonderland 222, B6 size for my work and personal tasks and I have a separate journal that I just write in and set personal goals. I tend to go small for work because I my workplace uses Office 365 so most of my work tasks and projects are housed there but if I don't write what I need to do for the week and day on paper, I will get lost and off task. I have two Traveler's Company leather TNs so if what I'm doing doesn't work out then I will give that a try since your configuration gave me some ideas.
    I would try taking your wallet insert out of your pocket TN before you decide to abandon it. I found that to be helpful when I used a TN. Also, I really bend my inserts before putting them in the TN and that helps them to lay much flatter. I wish you the best and look forward to seeing your updates.

    Have you thought about the Hobonichi weeks ‘notebooks’- essentially the same as the blank back pages. Could you maybe ‘overflow’ into one of these if you need extra blank pages? Love all Japanese planners and can sympathise with you…

    I am a person of ‘all in one’ planner too! That’s the way my brain works. But I kept switching between bullet journal (in B6 stalogy) and Hobonichi cousin. Couldn’t give up any of those. This year I decided to go with B6 stalogy for the first half of the year and maybe I can buy the second half of hobo cousin Avec for jul-dec. I put words like ‘don’t switch to Hobo’ on the first page of my stalogy lol, that’s my planner dilemma 🤣🤣🤣

    I have opted for the Hobo weeks as my planner and bujo and I use the passport travelers notebook as my personal journal. Both I take with me most of the time though I can easily leave the Hobo weeks if I’m not on a planning run. You loving want to checkout mylifemits if you haven’t already. What she recommended was that no matter how many times you change planners or journals, always keep an EDC that is your ‘master list’ book so that that remains updated all the time over anything else.

    Have you considered using one mega weeks for the first half of the year, and another for the second half? I also feel that fear of running out of notes pages, so this is what I thought of trying with two sneaker weeks - treating them like an avec set. I also love the idea of TNs, but got too annoyed with their inability to lay flat.
    I appreciate you talking about how you keep your work plans - I do use an a6 hobonichi notebook. It's my messiest, scribbliest bullet journal yet haha, but it does the job.

      That’s not something I’ve considered, but it’s a good idea. If think having the first half of the weeklies blank in the second one would drive me a bit crazy, but I’m sure they could be repurposed!

    It looks a bit like me last year. I think I've switched the system about 4 times. This year I'm just obliging myself to stick to it at least for 6 months. It's been easy beacuase I actually think I've found the system for me but almost skeeped when you showed the travelers notebook. I sometimes feel the same way abaout the A5 being a bit big and I tend to lean into a Regular size. BUT!! I won't untill the end of June because that's when I will end this notebook. By the way, I use a Midori md A5 dot grid (on that gorgeous goat leather cover) as my bullet journal and journal, Midori B6 Slim grid (on the clear cover) as my work planner and a TN passport in blue as my wallet and random note taking.
    PS: Yes, I'm a Midori products fanatic.

    I watched this video shaking my head and saying "how me this is"... I so badly want to have all the fun pretty planner stacks, but it never works. I try and end up with piles of notebooks. For example I just bought all the archer and olive notebooks in all the sizes "for all my plans". I'm scared to start because I'm afraid I won't keep up with all the creating. I adore the standard size TN and have been agonizing over going into it and then think of all the issues I have..lol like the ones you mentioned. I did enjoy the video, but now I'm over here on jet pens looking at inserts. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂
